Tesla has been averaging about $20K a car, though the profit is probably smaller on the lower end cars, and it definitely is lower on the 60s. Discounting $10K Tesla is taking a haircut, but probably making at least a small profit on the car.

Or, if Tesla knows AP2.0 will be on October built cars, then can we even say they are taking a haircut? They might, in fact, be taking a bigger hit by leaving these vehicles on the lot. So it's smart to get more for them now, than they can next month, IF and it's a BIG IF, AP2.0 is coming very soon.

Tesla is apparently still using Mobileye's EyeQ3 processor for AP but how long can that go on for now that Mobileye has has broken ties with Tesla, and even if their contract allows for continued use, do they want to, with how Mobileye is bashing Tesla of late?

No one knows except Tesla insiders (not sale's employees) but we'll find out soon enough if new hardware is part of the reason for this clear-out, and not just Q3 numbers.

I saw a German-based P90DL discounted some 42k euros. - a few of them actually. I wonder if 100kWh standard and AP2.0 is what's for Christmas this year.
