Compared to the gallons of lies conservatives swallow every day?
Speaking of which, at least there are some consequences for spreading lies, maybe Elon will take note.

What I find funny is Tesla has a plant in Texas, but you have to buy the car out of state or some back door thing? How strange is that?
In WA state you can't test drive a Rivian because of a dealer protection law. Tesla got a special exception that Rivian hasn't gotten yet.

Little do the dealers know its actually a good thing if you can't test drive a Rivian.

Tok'ing any time you accelerate or decelerate isn't exactly going to promote sales.

For the record I have a Tok'ing Rivian and not a Tesla. Neither of my previous Tesla's had any kind of gear lash noise on acceleration.

it's kind of funny to consider just how incredibly damaging and incriminating they knew the evidence against them was to have been ok with paying out nearly a billion dollars just to NOT have to have it shown at a trial.

His idea that you can replace ethics and human values with a computer's "understanding of the universe" is at best an utopian ideology, if it makes any sense at all.

The biggest problems with the current generation of AI is that it's just a predict-the-most-likely-next-token model, which ends up sounding "intelligent" when you fill it with everything ever written on the internet - it'll find a match, but if it DOESNT happen to find a match it goes into what is affectionately known as "hallucination mode" where it literally just makes stuff up. Whole fake peer reviewed articles to reference to support a theory where none happened to exist. Answers with no grounding in reality.

It doesn't KNOW reality. It has the moral grounding of... whatever the average is of the millions of training items you gave it, minus any judgement on which ones have greater merit and which ones are horrific. If you let be adaptive it quickly veers into what we all know and love as message-board-hate-mongering.

The best you could do for AI morality would to be to have humans curate an incredibly careful and detailed training set, and then simply use AI to map new questions onto quickly instead of using those same humans. Even there I'd be very very careful. And Elon with his freshly utterly-abandoned "Free Speech Absolutist" moral stance should have nothing to say on the topic.

Very centrist of him. /S

Twitter Removes Protections for Trans Users as Elon Musk Posts Constant Transphobia

At a time when protections for transgender individuals are already being rolled back and legislated against, Twitter has seemingly chosen which side of history they want to cozy up next to. Today, under Elon Musk’s leadership, Twitter dropped language from its Hateful Content Policy that penalized users for targeted deadnaming and misgendering of trans people. Given Musk’s track record of being a transphobic troll, this is unfortunately not surprising at all.

The Hateful Content Policy originally read:

“We prohibit targeting others with repeated slurs, tropes or other content that intends to dehumanize, degrade or reinforce negative or harmful stereotypes about a protected category. This includes targeted misgendering or deadnaming of transgender individuals.”

But as of Tuesday, that last sentence has been removed. The language that prohibits attacks against people based on their gender or gender identity remains but, for reasons unknown, Twitter no longer feels they have to clarify that that includes attacks against transgender people. A bold and frankly bigoted policy change amidst the current political landscape.

And a peek at Musk’s recent Twitter account shows that in between sharing jokes fit for 2013 Reddit, he’s been in top-tier transphobic troll mode as of late.

...

Musk also has an estranged transgender daughter who filed papers to change her name in June. On the legal forms, she cited that her reason for doing so was “Gender Identity and the fact that I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form.” Who could possibly blame her? In October, Musk told the Financial Times of their relationship: “It’s full-on communism . . . and a general sentiment that if you’re rich, you’re evil.” He
[Musk] blamed her elite schools for teaching her about communism and keeping them apart.

...

The decision to remove protections for transgender people is consistent with this ghoul’s disregard for trans people’s safety, including the safety of his own child. I’m sure it flatters Musk to the legion of hateful, conservative legislators who are working on their home turfs to restrict transgender protections—the same legislators who oversee regulatory committees like the Senate Judiciary or Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation committees, that Musk might eventually be held accountable to.

It might be that the "truth" is out there in our DNA, millions of years of rivalry and symbiosis between species. It's brutal. The human brain simply tries to cloak it in a nice story. If an AI would discover the "truth", it would simply "cut to the chase" in all things like a psychopath numbers cruncher.

Musk doing more Elons.

Musk labels CBC “69% Government-funded” as more news outlets quit Twitter

Musk previously labeled CBC as government-funded media on Sunday without any percentage displayed. Musk added the label after Canadian Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre asked Twitter to do so, claiming it was needed to "protect Canadians against disinformation and manipulation by state media." After Musk complied, Poilievre tweeted, "Now people know that it is Trudeau propaganda, not news."

The CBC disputed the government-funded label on Sunday, writing:

Twitter's own policy defines government-funded media as cases where the government "may have varying degrees of government involvement over editorial content," which is clearly not the case with CBC/Radio-Canada. CBC/Radio-Canada is publicly funded through a parliamentary appropriation that is voted upon by all Members of Parliament. Its editorial independence is protected in law in the Broadcasting Act... In addition, our journalism is independent and subject to our Journalistic Standards and Practices, as well as an independent complaints process.

Musk mocked NPR's description of its finances last week, falsely claiming that NPR deleted language from its website that said federal funding is essential to public radio. A reader-added context box attached to Musk's tweet corrects his error, pointing out that the statement about federal funding being essential to public radio is still on NPR's website.

People like to say look at the deliveries at the end of a quarter to say look "Elon isnt costing Tesla business". While at the same time they ignore the price cuts in the USA being done like every other week it seems. Yeah so maybe with the price cuts Elon is costing new car sales. Sure looks like it may be costing on the revenue and profit side.

It's been commented that since the BBC reporter couldn't name an incident of hate speech on Twitter, that he lied. When Musk was asked about advertisers which left Twitter and came back, Musk also couldn't name one.

Musk tries media blitz to win back Twitter advertisers

Asked during the BBC interview to name an example of a single advertiser that left Twitter and returned, Musk could not provide one.

To be fair, they just cut the LR Model Y to $49,990.

Know what the price was roughly 3 years ago?

$49,990.

When profits were pretty solid.

For the most part these cuts are putting prices back to where they were pre-covid.... but with the benefits of much lower cost to build them due to economy of scale and localization of production.

Plus of course as you keep ramping production 30-50% annually you HAVE to lower prices to keep increasing TAM to absorb that production.

Not that I don't think Elon is pissing many off with his comments-- but that's not showing up in Teslas sales so far.
