Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

No there are yellowing screens in MCU1s as well. (Probably from when a leaking screen was replaced.)

But a leaking screen isn't considered fixable. At least not using their UV machine.
Our 2016 S with AP2 and MCU1 didn't start having the problem until 6 months after the 2017 S. I think the fact that the 2016 S was in a parking garage everyday must've slowed the onset on the problem. We sold the 2016 S earlier this year but Tesla swapped out the screen and MCU for us first.
Tesla replaced the screen on the 2017 S earlier this year as well. I can't remember if they swapped the MCU as well.
We have a second 2017 S with MCU1 and AP2.5 that had the screen problem as well. We should probably schedule a service appointment and see if we get the infrared treatment this time.
Anyhow, we have at least two vehicles that we are interested in upgrading to MCU2 if such an upgrade is offered. As others have heard, we were told that such an upgrade kit does exist.
The "used" to replace the entire MCU when the screen yellowed a long time ago, since then they stopped that and just replace the screen itself, it's plug and play and super simple to fix.
In fact, if you screen develops the border and your out of warranty, buy an MCU1 on ebay and you can swap it yourself in a cpl hours and most of that time would be spent removing the mcu from the car to get at the screws to remove the screen.

Where are the $money$ guys at Tesla? I am more that sure that if Tesla offered an MCU2 upgrade path that all *most* of the people with the MMC and yellowing borders would pay for the an MCU2 transplant even at a make money price for Tesla. Would solve the failure swaps (no $$ of Tesla's back and satisfy owners wanting to upgrade to MCU2 all at once ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
Correct original MCU1s had leaking screens, and when those were fixed the screens were replaced with ones that formed yellow borders.

"2nd generation MCU" is not the same as MCU2.
MCU2 is at least 3rd gen.

Gen 2 added 4G and some other minor improvements.
As someone in Houston who recently went through the MCU replacement process, I can confirm that it is still just an MCU1. I asked about an MCU2 upgrade specifically and they told me that my car is too old and not compatible (2013 P85).
