Trunk gap

Hello! Yesterday I removed the interior panel on the trunk for pushing out a dent. When I put it back together the trunk gaps were totally screwed. I tried to adjust the four 13mm bolts to make the gaps better but there's not enough adjustment in the bolts to fix it. I got the gaps in top "ok" but there's a big height difference on the left and right side. Which barely makes it closable. I've attached pictures of the height difference after adjusting the bolts. Any suggestions for a fix? Thanks!:)

Door handle rebuild: how to remove pins from door handle outer fork?

I am in the process of repairing the left front door handle (Generation 2.0, I believe) of my 2014 Model S. It had a broken paddle gear as well as a broken door handle outer fork (part 1008961-00-C; it's the major price that pivots in and out to present the handles).

This fork has two pivoting pieces at the handle attachment end (opposite the motor/pivot end) that are the actual attachment points for the exterior handle proper. These pieces are attached to the fork with pins. How can I remove and replace these pieces and their pins? I need to transfer them from the old broken fork to the new fork. I would also like to not break the new part in the process...

The other pins and shafts haven't been a problem, but it appears that these pieces are secured in a different way.

Trunk auto open manually stopped and now won’t open.

Super annoying when walking by in garage. Manually stopped it from opening, then pressed close button and it closed. But now it won’t go up. Manually lifting it up works, and closing by button press works. Tried 3 second hold at top position and heard numerous beeps. Still didn’t open after that. Takes a bit of force to lift, more than before. Seems like something is broken, but not sure if I did the calibration right and assume if it closes via the motor that it should be able to open via the motors.

Any thoughts? How many times should it beep for the confirmation of calibration?

Thanks

2024: Does Dog Mode still not allow External Camera recording?

Sentry Mode is disabled with Dog mode of course as loud noises with a Dog inside is not a good idea!
Internal camera I know can be enabled on later models.

However, can the external camera still catch events and record when Dog mode is on?

In the past it seemed Dog mode disabled any recording from the external cameras. Seen some old 2021 posts but in 2024, is this still the case?

Would be great to leave the dog safe inside but also record any nasty scratches or events while Dog mode is on parked somewhere!

Model Y 2023 Model - Slow leak - TESLA service estimate $400+

My Model Y 2023 model seems to have a slow tire leak. Drops about 8 to 10 PSI over the course of a month. Opened a TESLA service request and their first option is to replace the tire estimating $400+
Do anyone know if I approve the estimate and take the car to the shop, will they honestly first check to see if the leak can be plugged? Or should I not risk it and just take it to a local tire shop to fix the leak?
Thanks for your suggestions.

  • Question
When to Change filters and Clean Evaporator coil

As we enter into Air Conditioning season, the smell in my 2022 MY is not terrible but I suspect getting there. I purchased replacement filters (didn't realize the order comes with only one filter so had to order again) and the cleaning foam.

When do people change the filters and clean the coil - at the start of the AC season or at the end of it?

General insurance question

Hello Tesla. I've got a door that needs to be replaced on a model y for an accident. That was my own fault. No other car involved. But I've never filed a claim before and so not familiar with how it works. I have a $500 deductible for collision and I've contacted the insurance company but have not filed anything yet. Surprisingly they said my insurance goes up $300 a year for 3 years. Not bad. But I can't get any guarantees on cost of repair and what else I would be responsible for.

So my question is; does anyone know? After the deductible, are there added costs that an adjuster will find and I would have to pay?

Curious to see if anyone has been in a similar situation.

Thanks!

  • Question
Run low, charge high periodically to "exercise" cells?

Sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere, but can't find specific answer. I have 2023 M3/ LR / DM
I normally leave it plugged in when not in use. My normal usage does not bring the battery below 60%. I charge to 81% (personal quirk, I like it to read 80% when I leave my driveway.)
A Tesla tech told me today that I should occasionally (perhaps every 6 months) let the battery run down to about 10%, then charge to about 90%.
This, he said, would "exercise" the cells, like a person who sits a lot getting up and stretching.
Do others agree? Good, bad, no difference?
Thanks!

Charging at Airbnb with Dryer Outlet During Colorado Road Trip

Hi Tesla Community,

I'm planning a road trip in Colorado and will be staying at a mountain cabin Airbnb. The nearest Supercharger is 2 hours away, and I need to figure out a way to charge at the Airbnb to avoid anxiety about charging.

1. Can I use a 240-volt dryer outlet for Level 2 charging of my Tesla?
2. What type of adapter will I need for this setup?
3. Any safety tips or considerations when using a dryer outlet for charging?
4. Has anyone had similar experiences and can share how it worked out?

The regular 120-volt outlet charges too slowly, and I don’t want to worry about running out of charge because we will be using the car throughout the day. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Clarification on EV parking and towing at businesses with free charging and no explicit restrictions

Hello fellow EV owners and enthusiasts,

I recently purchased a Tesla and have been using an app to locate free charging spots in my area to park my Tesla overnight. While some locations, like hotels and apartment complexes, clearly indicate that charging is exclusively for guests or residents, I've come across other places with less explicit guidelines.

These places often have EV charging stations with two signs side by side stating "EV parking only" and "unauthorized vehicles will be towed." However, it's unclear whether the towing warning is solely intended to deter non-EV vehicles from parking in these spots or if it's directed at individuals who are not patrons of the establishment.

As a new Tesla owner, I'd like to respect the policies of these establishments while still benefiting from their free charging offerings. Since there is a sign that explicitly states for EV vehicles only, that means my vehicle is authorized, correct? I'm hoping to gain some clarity on this matter from others who may have had similar experiences or insights.

If you have any information or advice regarding the use of these charging stations at businesses without explicit restrictions, I'd greatly appreciate your input.

Thank you for your time and attention.

Best regards

Keys and app both not working

It is now day 9 of me not being able to open my 2014 Model S.
- Both key fobs don't do anything (also with a new key fob battery).
- App can't connect (spinner keeps spinning).
- I tried placing the fob on various places on the lower passenger side windshield; apparently there should be some sort of key reader there (?).

I have opened the nose cone, and am measuring 2V on the 12V circuit.
I have replaced this battery 2 years + a few months ago. Seems short for it to already fail (also, I'm guessing the warrenty on it is 2yrs...).
I have not seen any replace battery warnings.

I am currently drip-charging the battery via the nose cone connections.
So far cannot connect. Any suggestions?

I've tried to reach Tesla by mail, but got forwarded to the App, on which I just get absurdly high quotes, instead of helpful advice. Is this normal? (I am in the Netherlands)

2024 Model Y LR AWD Battery

Hi,

We were wondering if the new 2024 tesla model y long range awd that starts shipping in june still has the NMC battery (or if it has been updated with the LFC battery) because we noticed that the range estimate for it was updated from 260 miles to 320 miles.

It is going to be our first electric car and we plan to own it for at least 8+ years, so we’re looking for a tesla with a battery pack that wont degrade quickly.

Thank you 😊

  • Question
If I register my Tesla under my company's name, can I still make it friends with my Tesla app, or will it refuse to play nice?

I'm considering registering a used Tesla under my company's name instead of my personal name, but I'm concerned about potential difficulties in adding it to my Tesla app. Has anyone done this before? Added a company vehicle to their app? Since it's my company, could I also link my personal name to it?

Custom Rim options on my 2017 Tesla Model S

I Just brought a 2017 Model S 75.
I understand my Model S has 245/45ZR19 Tires and 8Jx19 Rims with 5x120 bolt pattern.

I'm looking at getting King Milano Satin Black Rims, either 19" or 20" however I don't know which of these sets will fit my car.

The sizes on the custom rims are as follows:
For 19 Inch:

For 20 Inch:
msedge_FUggO4vFAk.png

The two things I'd really appreciate help with is which set will fit my car without any extra modifications or clearance/fitting problems
I know I'll need new tires for the 20 Inch ones, I want to make sure first my plausible options before I settle on size increase or not.

Thank you for the help!
