Not really been following this. Are self driving cars supported by all parties or actually they are a right wing idea?

The left seem particularly against all cars regardless of what it’s propelled by or who drives....the only positive thing they can say about cars is that they are a cash cow to fund all their other policies

It won’t be a vote winner to be anti car in this country. The 20mph limit in Wales didn’t go down well.

If Starmer doesn’t get a clean sweep and has to do a deal with the Greens.....they don’t like electric cars anymore than diesels

To make washup a bill has to reach royal assent by the end of today. That's actually quite a high bar and bills nobody was really opposed to didn't make the cut. I'm not sure enough people care about self driving cars for it to even be considered.

I think the bill you are referring to is already law.

In case you missed it, Automated Vehicles Bill already received royal assent on Monday. It is now known as Automated Vehicles Act 2024. But the earliest is still for 2026

Because of the sudden call for a General Election, Parliament is rushing through legislation.....anyone know if there is movement on the Self Driving legislation ?

I was repying to the above and subsequent conversation which I take to be a different, later bill than the one passed this week.

I don’t think there is a “different, later” bill - only an “activation date” for the current bill.

Plus I can absolutely guarantee you that none of this is going to start being activated until enough manufacturers actually lobby for activation…and that is going to take a while.
