90D with 5 seats confirmed for nearly 2 months. What's going on?

Teslaliving reports that the version 8.0 added a few new API fields, one of which is called "rear_seat_type". Anyone know how to figure out what the possible values are? I hope one is "folding". :)

Teslaliving on Twitter

Possible values are:

1. "F", which implements an automatic mechanical Folding sequence to create a flat trunk surface for easily carrying diverse cargo, and accelerates sales of the Model X to levels that propel Tesla into Q4 profitability.

2. "SFJLTSSV", which does nothing but cause the second row seats to "Slide Forward Just Like The Six And Seven Seat Version", as would a candy ass trophy, battery operated, niche vehicle, instead of a genuine SUV, and decelerates sales of the Model X to levels owners of TSLA shares don't want to discuss.

3. "WDIR-TFW", which is a statement reflecting Tesla's decision to congratulate itself because "We Did It Right - Thanks For Waiting", and awards those customers who waited for the 5 seat version with a free weekly car wash performed by attractive girls in string bikinis.

Astonishing demographic report: my next door neighbor, my tennis pal, the turncoat, has caved. He was so ashamed, he used the occasion to surprise me: never told me ahead of time. Nasty fellow. That's right, he pulled into his driveway yesterday afternoon, fresh from a drive up to Fremont, to collect his brand new, pearl white, 90D Model X.......with 6 seats. My only fellow member in the neighborhood of the 5 seat club, has caved. He took the discount bait, cancelled his 5, took the 6, and is a happy camper. He and his family are wonderful folks, but he caved. Were it not for acceptance by association to my wife's Model S, my Jeep and I would be social outcasts around these parts. I'm submitting a complaint to Tesla that they change the award for the "We did it right - thanks for waiting" group from the car wash award to weekly grilled lobster, corn on the cob, and strawberry/banana smoothie picnics.

"New product" means that the 5 seat version, with elegantly folding rear seats, is a complete, unique, and surprising redesign over the archaic and antiquated 6 & 7 seat dinosaurs. Oct. 17 could be none other than the unveiling of the 5 seater. My inside information, which refers to information I imagine while seated inside my study, is that Elon will appear wearing a bowler hat, will refer to himself as Valdimir, will confirm that the complete name for the 5 seat Model X is the Model X Godot, and will escort me up to the Fremont factory to take possession of the very first Model X Godot, since I am the closest 5 seat buyer, and the most patient.

I have an interesting update, although I have no confirmation that it reflects significant news: the My Tesla page for my order has inserted a VIN as of today. The various VIN decoders that are available confirm that the number of seats in an individual Model X are not indicated in the VIN. Nevertheless, a VIN now exists for an individual with an order for a 5 seat Model X. Is it a placebo? Is it a start? Is it news that something is going to happen soon? I do not yet know.

If yours is really getting queued for production, the most recent people to take the SAS+6 upgrade are going to be very frustrated. Typical Tesla move.

Great news!!!!

Will you (we) have to pay an upgrade price for "auto pilot" ?
I've wondered about that for vehicles delivered this week/next week. I haven't check but I'm sure this is already discussed to death elsewhere (my guess is you get Enhanced Autopilot for the price of your original AP, but if you upgrade to full autonomy I wouldn't be surprised if they charge you $5500).

Anyhow, at least newer autopilot is a "consolation prize" for being patient enough to wait this long.

From what we have heard there are technically 4 available combinations:
  • Hardware version 1 with AP Convenience features
  • Hardware version 2 with AP Convenience features (For people that orderd before the reveal and paid for AP1 but will get AP2 hardware, you can pay the difference to upgrade to Enhanced AP.)
  • Hardware version 2 with Enhanced AP
  • Hardware version 2 with Enhanced AP & Full autonomy.
So you will get the new hardware with the old AP features, if you paid the $2,500, or $3,000, with your order. Or you can pay the difference to upgrade to the higher feature packs.

My reservation and order were made so many months ago that there is no charge for AP included in the purchase price for my order for a Model X 90 D. I suspect Tesla will be responsible enough to include the full AP package at no additional cost with vehicles ordered so many months ago, both as a reward for patience, and as a contractural obligation to include all the standard features currently included in vehicles manufactured today but ordered over a year ago.

AP has always been an extra cost add-on. So there is no item on your order, that means you didn't order it, right?

Tesla's Oct. 19 announcement stated, "We are excited to announce that, as of today, all Tesla vehicles produced in our factory – including Model 3 – will have the hardware needed for full self-driving capability at a safety level substantially greater than that of a human driver." I take that to mean the Model X that I ordered 22 months ago will include all the AP hardware Tesla offers, and as a matter of contractural obligations, there can be no additional charge for that hardware. As to whether the software that implements that hardware will be activated, my guess is that Tesla will want to calibrate the system using millions of miles of real-world driving, and therefore it is to everyone's advantage that all the software be enabled so that data can be sent back to Tesla. My Model X will be a beta tester. I have no problem with that. On the other hand, if Tesla does not wish to include the fully updated software package, that is fine with me. But like the beta versions of the Apple software I am routinely provided by Apple, I am doing Tesla a favor by beta testing its AP software. Of course, the actual number of miles I would ever depend on an "auto pilot" to drive my car for me will be zero. This is America. We like to drive our own cars, and the thrill of having a vehicle drive itself while we sit in it will not resonate with me or anyone I know.

You continue to make extremely strange posts.

The hardware will be included on all cars, regardless of options selected. Did you pay attention to the AP 2.0 release at all? If you didn't select the option(s) you will not have any of the AP functionality. You will not be forced to pay for the option(s) and you will not receive anything for free.

Tesla does not need to switch on the software for you to receive all relevant AP validation data. AP runs silently in the background and sends data to Tesla regardless of whether AP is enabled or even functional on the car at all. Again, clearly laid out in the release.

Your point about AP being undesirable because "this is America" and no one you know would use it...I'll leave that one alone. Understand that you are in the clear, clear minority on that one.

Well, he "knows" us, and I certainly love using Auto Pilot on my X, and my wife would love to trade ours in to get one with newer AP hardware (not gonna happen - the first X is a stretch, we can't take the depreciation + sales tax + full wrap hit to trade it in; even a double dip on the tax credit would only cover one of the above).

That said, do you have data that says he is clearly in the minority? What I see is one anecdote, followed by another anecdote, neither with actual statistical data. I know a lot of people that are excite about autonomy. I know a lot of people that are scared of it. I know a lot of people that think it's stupid, and why wouldn't you want to drive your own car. I have no idea how the sizes of those groups compare to each other. It's also interesting that different social circles of mine tend to clump into one of those groups. So just looking at "neighbors" gives a completely different picture than "coworkers".
