    HVAC Fan Control

This happened to me and others also with a recent software update. Press and hold gives only display choices, not button function choices. When I use the right scroll wheel it gives an error that the phone isn't connected. I never connect a phone, so whatever it's supposed to do now is of no use...

BSM: V_ess too low during precharge

I'm finally back to working on the Roadster. I have the insulation, and I've replaced the caps on the first board of the three. I noticed that there is some kind of coating that was applied to the board at the factory after it was soldered. It is clear and is probably to prevent corrosion in the...

    BMB Pinouts

I'm back to the car, at least for now. When I left in early June I had charged the pack to 405V and left the plug out for preservation. After 6 months it's at 392V. Not much drop, as expected. Soon to work on the PEM.

BSM: V_ess too low during precharge

Do you have a schematic or other info on the PEM? It would help. The other possibility is the HVAC unit. It uses a 400V compressor, so a short in that unit can also give the error. Since I don't have a way to fake the HVAC, I still plan on servicing the PEM, especially with many having problems...

BSM: V_ess too low during precharge

Not normal. The precharge circuit is a relay and resistor that goes around the negative contactor. It's purpose is to slowly charge the large capacitors in the PEM. This avoids damage from high inrush currents. The precharge relay closes, and the V_ESS voltage ramps up as the capacitors are...

BSM: V_ess too low during precharge

It looks like v_ess is the battery voltage after the contactors, and v_bat is at the battery. So there is either a resistance in the line to the pem, or a short somewhere after the contactors. I'm suspecting the insulators on the pem igbt's, but could be a shorted capacitor too. I'm getting the...

BSM: V_ess too low during precharge

After doing a lot of very slow charging to recover my battery pack, I now get the BSM: V_ess too low during precharge error. It happens when trying to charge and when trying to drive. The battery is good, lowest brick is 3.97V highest is 4.00V. Pack voltage is 395V. But in the service screen the...

Safely trickle charge a bricked pack in/out of car - solution

That's a lot of chargers! Sure get it done quick. What chargers did you use? Two per strip, small power strips?

    BMB Pinouts

Makes sense on the fuse. My 1.5 has fuses on all sheets. Wouldn't hurt to have both pins available to enable fuse checking. No bricks were at or near zero. Lowest voltages are above. I used 300mA to get the voltages up quickly to avoid further damage to the cells. They are all at around 3v now...

    BMB Pinouts

Figures. I didn't see that data sheet, so I used the more standard numbering. I wrote it on my board with a permanent marker too. Oooops. So going by the data sheet numbering I come up with... 24 is still 24 2, 12, 1, 10, 3, 22, 15, 23, 14 Have you figured out the difference between pins 10 and...

    BMB Pinouts

I have no clue yet. I can't get to the logs until I'm done with the battery pack. I do know that power was good the whole time, and it showed 241v on the screen when I looked.

Safely trickle charge a bricked pack in/out of car - solution

You misunderstood. Those numbers are the pin numbers on the 24 pin BMB connector, not voltages. My post was in a different thread. How did your response get here?

    BMB Pinouts

I probed the pins and found the ones needed. Pin 24 is sheet negative. Pins for positive of each brick, in the order from 1 to 9 are: 3, 23, 1, 19, 5, 20, 6, 22, 4 The connector is a Molex 44428-2402. Mouser has plenty in stock. Note that the pins are spaced on 3mm centers, not 0.1"(2.54mm) so...

    BMB Pinouts

My roadster drained it's battery while I was away. I had it plugged in, but it stopped charging for some reason. Since it was plugged in it kept running the cooling system and killed the battery pack. It refused to charge, so I looked in the service menu. I saw VMin was under 2V, so I...
