Simplified solar charging for Model 3

Thanks to the 3 of you for very useful comments. Based on your input, I'm going to get quotes to run either a 120v or 240v line from my meter and see if I can get it done at a reasonable price.

Simplified solar charging for Model 3

I am planning on keeping my Model 3 at a second home where I only drive it on alternating weekends. The home is a condo with a long (200 feet+) run from my meter to my carport. Including permits, I estimate that the cost of running power conduit and placing a 120V outlet at my carport would be...

    Understanding SDG&E rates

Four cents is a great rate. Here in the land of the shuttered nuclear power station, we pay 16-18 cents per kWh from midnight to 5am for the tou ev rate. In exchange for that, we pay 46 cents per kWh during the peak hours from noon to 6pm. Running the AC on a 90 degree day costs about $1.35...

    Understanding SDG&E rates

It looks like SDGE just rolled out new rates including what they call tou-dr and tou-dr-p. It's really confusing. It appears that there is a credit for kWh used up to 130% of baseline. The peak period structure is way different than the old ev tou structure. SDGE is projecting that you-dr-p...

Supercharger - Lone Pine, CA (LIVE 28 Jan 2015, multiple expansions, 16 V3 stalls)

I didn't switch because Tesla said I would have the same problem with all stations due to heat. Probably bad advice. I wasn't too excited about being out in 118 degree heat, so I charged minimally and got out of there.

Supercharger - Lone Pine, CA (LIVE 28 Jan 2015, multiple expansions, 16 V3 stalls)

@treldib I just charged there today about 4:00pm on my way to Mammoth. Charging was quick from 40 miles at about 6 miles per minute. Much better than Inyokern where charging was half the normal rate. Called Tesla and they said it was a problem with my battery being hot. Both stations were...

    Supercharger - Fountain Valley (LIVE 28 Aug 2015, Expanded 27 Oct 2017, 16 stalls)

Tesla should consider monitoring charge level for cars charging at a supercharger locations more than half full. If a car completes its charge and isn't out if there in ten minutes, impose a temporary restriction on supercharger use after a warning message sent directly to the car after the...

Supercharger - Petaluma, CA (EXPANDED Jun 2018, now 20 V2 stalls)

What a bunch of jerks. Tesla should include some security provisions in their supercharger location contracts. In thus case, mall security could be notified and the offending vehicles towed for a hefty fee.

    Supercharger - Inyokern, CA (4 V2 stalls)

I may be heading up this weekend from OC. If inyokern isn't open, I was thinking my s85 could make it from Rancho cucamonga to Lone Pine.

Traveling 395 East of the Sierras: Planning Charging and Energy Usage

Thanks CB and Mike for your input. I think that one of you is probably right. Will let you know when I make the trip. It's definitely not a slam dunk. I can assess the situation as I pass by Ridgecrest so that I can pick up some NEMA 14-50 juice if necessary.

Traveling 395 East of the Sierras: Planning Charging and Energy Usage

Nice pix, thanks! Now that both Rancho Cucamonga and Lone Pine are both open, I'm planning a trip from Orange County in my S85 to Mammoth stopping at both Superchargers. I'd rather avoid Barstow as its out of the way and not the safest spot (this weeks armed robbery and carjacking eg). EV...

Supercharger - Lone Pine, CA (LIVE 28 Jan 2015, multiple expansions, 16 V3 stalls)

That's a great suggestion. Outside of Ridgecrest, the Subway in Pearsonville is probably the least offensive food stop for miles around. It avoids the 14/395 conflict by being a short distance beyond the merge.

Supercharger - Lone Pine, CA (LIVE 28 Jan 2015, multiple expansions, 16 V3 stalls)

+1 on what cb17 said. Inyokern is very close to the 14 395 junction. For trips from LA, SD, or OC the inyoKern location would make them all possible in an 85. Mojave would be great also.

    Model S Order & Delivery Tracker - Q1 2014

Picked up my green MS 85 today in Costa Mesa. VIN 33842. Delivery was two days early. Took the best ride ever down to SD and back. More awesome than I ever imagined. I think I'll keep the car!
