    Supercharger - Brooklyn, NY

TLC is releasing new plates only for EVs or handicapped-accessible. So it's not a question of gas vs electric pricing. If you want a released-once-in-a-while TLC plate, you need to put it on an EV or handicapped-accessible vehicle.

Did you just buy a Tesla from Hertz Car Rental?

Seriously? Hertz sold 10,000 Teslas in one weekend? Where'd you hear this?

About to lose it with rats in my Model 3

Rodents can climb. Ever seen a squirrel? Assume a rat can do all the same things. A cleaned out shed is actually a space you could seal off, but no, you can't leave any openings at all. Everything has to be hard sealed. They can still easily break through weakly sealed areas but then at least...

Does Chill mode increase efficiency? Surprisingly, Tesla says yes

I always thought resistance generates heat. So is that internal resistance from low temperatures heating the battery as a byproduct?

Wall Connector insurance coverage for condo garage spot in Florida

This is probably related to it being early days with EVs. While adding the condo to the insurance seems reasonable on its face, it may be impractical if insurance companies have not responded by adding this as an option. Does the law explain what to do if no insurer offers this option...

    CPUC NEM 3.0 discussion

Yes, I was pointing to 5-9pm when solar drops to zero, batteries step in and then decline, and NG rises to compensate for some of that decline. Then it's interesting that from 9pm-12am, imports rise but not NG generation. One could infer that there is some reason PG&E prefers to keep at a stable...

Looks like the battery power supplanted electricity imports rather than natural gas generation. Maybe the price of imports is higher.

Prediction, in Which Year Will New Electric Vehicle Sales Exceed 50% in the United States "Poll"

This seems like a higher all electric range than current PHEV configurations, no? I thought current PHEVs have smaller all electric range than that. Not sure how they picked 43 miles. Fyi, I saw a 2022 CARB press release that said 50 miles would be the requirement for PHEVs but maybe that was an...

    CPUC NEM 3.0 discussion

I had a similar experience with more typical home discounts. They give discounts for security systems and for automatic water shutoff systems. However, there were no "official" specifications. The only way I was able to determine what the insurance companies considered adequate was that my agent...

    CPUC NEM 3.0 discussion

I've had a house in a rural area before and was never asked terrain and home hardening questions. Is this common already, or are insurance companies just now starting to do these systems to differentiate houses in rural/forested areas? On a related note, when I signed up for new HO insurance...

    CPUC NEM 3.0 discussion

From what I've read, regulators in California had a tendency to stop insurance companies from raising premiums too much unless they could justify it with their models. Eventually some insurers decided they had had enough and weren't making enough profits and left. All insurers in California are...

    CPUC NEM 3.0 discussion

PG&E recently applied to raise rates to cover an aggressive campaign to bury cables and thereby reduce fire risk. The request was denied, and PG&E was forced to dial back its plans to bury cable. That's actually a case where PG&E wanted to be conservative on safety, and regulators said it'd be...

How much should the HOA charge? (I'm the HOA president)

NYC is the densest city in the US. When something goes bad, it could affect all the buildings on a block. Many buildings are attached to each other. So a certain amount of enhanced caution is warranted here.

How much should the HOA charge? (I'm the HOA president)

Have to be licensed (after training, exam, and years of experience) and insured here to pull an electrical permit, so maybe our market is different than other markets. I get the impression in other parts of the country, even a homeowner can do electrical work and get it approved. In an area that...

How much should the HOA charge? (I'm the HOA president)

A condo building shouldn't be asking Uncle Jimmy to see what he can do to wire things up after he goes to Home Depot to buy an outlet. The condo, if they have a reasonably professional property manager, should hire a licensed company. In my limited experience as a homeowner, a licensed...
