Question: instead of using a RPi, could it be possible to run everything from an Android phone? Seems like it should be doable, especially it the phone is rooted for. Am I off basis here?

Sorry, I didn’t take a picture. But, install is not hard. You can simply use inline tap connectors to connect each side of the resistor to each of the 2 wires that plug into the speaker.

I can confirm that a 4ohm 25w resistor does the trick and clears the fault.
