Reduced charging amps on J1772/Chargepoint EVSE's

It looks like this issue goes back a while. I charge at work, and charging almost always drops from 30A to 22A. It means the difference between a full charge (starting from around 20-25%) in one ~9hr work day at 30A, at ~190V, vs having to go back to the charge point the following day to top up...

    Software Update 17.17.4

I haven't seen this anywhere, maybe it's a known feature though: when the driver's seatbelt is unbuckled, autosteer immediately limits to 25mph (at least on local roads). Don't ask me how I know :)

Tesla Glass Tile Solar Roof Update

Just thought of a good comparison: the solar roof is the Model S of solar. It's the luxury option. You get it because you love it and can afford it / want to stimulate technology / etc etc, not because the financial math makes sense.

Tesla Glass Tile Solar Roof Update

You are absolutely right, I don't factor in my time in the calculation, I'm one of those freaks who enjoys working on their house :). And really, it was only a weekend worth of work for me, and the second day had 8 or so friends helping out. We had a nice pizza party in the middle, and a BBQ at...

Tesla Glass Tile Solar Roof Update

You bring up a great point, though Tesla does not appear to factor in a full 30% credit, I put in the following: - 1750 sqft house (calculator comes up with 2168 sqft roof) - no powerwall Got the following output: - $64,200 cost of roof - 60% solar - $16,400 tax credit (=25.5% of quoted cost of...

Quick question to those that already payed for FSD

Excellent point on exposing / not exposing yourself to the cost of a potential hardware upgrade. When I did the financial math, I also included property tax. In CT we pay a percentage of the value of the car in property tax, around 3% annually. With pre-purchased FSD, the purchase price of the...

Why does Tesla not provide Dash Cams?

Or maybe just allow to record the vehicle cameras' imagery? There's already 8 cameras on the car, might as well just tap into those instead of adding two more..

It's December 29 - how much will supercharging cost?

Exactly. For economics, get a cheap ICE car. Aside from capital cost, the insurance alone, and in my case in CT the property tax as well, represents way more annual value/cost than the free supercharger. For every other good reason (environment, stimulating technology, sheer coolness), get a...

It's December 29 - how much will supercharging cost?

Let's do the math: if I assume that means approximately 1000kwh per trip, and that twice a year (~1500 miles +/- = half country, at ~3mi/kwh = 500kwh, plus return trip = 1000kwh per trip, times twice per year = 2000kwh). 2000kwh at residential rate of approx $0.20/kwh = $400. Technically I could...

It's December 29 - how much will supercharging cost?

I think the free supercharging has a very much overstated value, except for some specific use cases (taxis, *very* frequent long distance travelers etc). For the 95% of people who will use this car as they do their car today, they'll leave in the morning with an 80-100% full battery, and come...

Feb. delivery, will my VIN change to reflect 2017 build year?

My VIN also changed from a G to an H, S60 for "late December - January" delivery. I did have the following thought: for resale, having a 2017 VIN may be beneficial. However, in Connecticut, we pay property tax on our vehicles, and I'm wondering if having a 2016 VIN may actually be better...
