You *can* touch the phone's screen while driving without breaking the law, as long as you retain proper control of the car- similar to using the car's touchscreen. You can't hold it in your hand to do so, though. https://www.gov.uk/using-mobile-phones-when-driving-the-law

It's interesting - this works for me, but only 50% of the time. The other 50% I get silence, although I can browse the USB drive and initiate playback manually. Then, the next time I strive the car, it'll work as expected. Drives me mad.
