GPS, Internet, SiriusXM and Bluetooth Connectivity Issues: Request to Collect Data

I recently upgraded my 2012 P85 (which FWIW was almost totally problem free) to the 2015 90D. I have reported to Tesla problems associated with GPS and SiruisXM on my car some of which I believe are potential safety hazards. My local service center has confirmed that the connectivity issues I...

Request: HPWC b/w St Lous and Sikeston (I-55) or b/w Effingham and Paducah I-57/ I-24

Anyone who has an 80A HPWC who would be willing to allow me to use it on my monthly trips down through Southern Illinois, Eastern Missouri and ending in West Tennessee please let me know! I have two campsites along the way I have been using (one in Effingham, the other in Paducah) for 50A...

    It's on: Oil versus Electric

Tesla **is** up against a huge entrenched oil and auto industry even broader than what you pointed out. There is big oil, big automakers, and dealers. There are also gas stations, auto parts stores, auto repair, farming!? (ethanol), oil pipelines, oil shipping and refineries, energy trading...

Realistic Range Expectations in Crummy Winter Weather

If I start the car up from the app to let it warm up before unplugging from the charger, could I avoid the 10Kw loss?

Realistic Range Expectations in Crummy Winter Weather

We had our first (extremely light, melting) snow of the season here in Chicago today, and I was a little shocked when on a 7 mile drive my average wh/mile read 703!!!?? Temperature was not terrible, around 32F. Wind was light. Rain turning into snow. I had interior temp set at 70F, and I...

    Battery replacement cost?

Ugh this is about the worst news I have seen, far worse than a couple of fires. I thought Tesla had announced a battery warranty that would allow you to "pre-purchase" a new battery for around $12K? Is that officially retracted now, does anyone know? Going to be going over those speed bumps...

    Ugh. Another Model S fire - 2013-11-06

I posted these "statistics" over on the Tesla Motors forum, but it might be worthwhile to recap here since my statistics actually suggest (but don't prove) that 2 fires is not unusual relatively speaking (even disregarding the point made earlier about whether 2 incidents is enough to make a...

    Ugh. Another Model S fire - 2013-11-06

This doesn't really detract from your point, but I think the correct number is more like 122 fires per day, on average. http://www.usfa.fema.gov/downloads/pdf/statistics/v13i11.pdf (three year period of 194,000 all-vehicle fires x 68.9% of those being "standard passenger vehicles" = total...

    Model S Insurance Sticker Shock

I think I have the lowest insurance cost with GEICO of any Tesla P85 owner I have found, and I am in a pretty expensive market (middle of the city in Chicago). It matters most of course if you have no accidents, perfect driving record, etc... but I pay only ~400 per 6 months with GEICO. That...

Court Orders Chicagoland Electric Car Charging Stations

This could be an important story for us in Chicagoland... The 350 Green chargers that were at issue include a good number of CHAdeMO DC Level 3 chargers that can charge at a rate of 100 miles/hour. I believe there are 4 in the Chicagoland area located in the toll plazas... As Tesla has...

Question regarding EPA rated "range", consumption numbers and testing methodology

I don't have a problem with Tesla keeping an emergency reserve hidden so long as it starts and remains hidden. Like investors, distance driving in an EV absolutely requires predictability, especially when you are in the midwest where there is only one supercharger within in the entire 12 state...

Question regarding EPA rated "range", consumption numbers and testing methodology

In the spreadsheet I linked to above (from the EPA), go to the EV tab, and look at row 10 (row 9 is gasoline equivalent; row 10 is in 100 wh/mile format so more useful for us), and look at columns M, N and O - these are the "unadjusted" consumption numbers (in 100 wh/mile increments). These...

    Energy accounting

You are looking in the wrong tab... the tabs are "FEGuide" which only covers ICE, "PHEVs" which are hybrids, and "EVs" which are our cars.

Question regarding EPA rated "range", consumption numbers and testing methodology

Well, maybe. The EPA has an unadjusted number too - 30.2 Kw/100 miles. The unadjusted number is supposed to reflect driving without any such losses (ac off, no wind, etc.) on a dynometer. However, at 30.2 Kw/100 miles the 82.95 Kwh battery should yield an "unadjusted" rating of 274.67 rated...
