The road to Model S — and road from here

Thanks, Rosemary. I've done my best to make my 2019 look like your 2021! So far, I love the car and, like always, I've added some custom touches. In this case, though, no aftermarket exhaust is required! For sure, the acceleration is thrilling. Yesterday on an empty back road, I launched the...

    What's chill mode??? (haha)

Great advice, aero. Thank you. The main items for me are more forum research and DIY. That said, I wasn't willing to DIY the chrome delete or tinting. Replace the headlights? Maybe I'll give that a go.

All those things, yes (or at least most). Also: Formerly the fastest production car in the world. The only downside I've found is it can make you and your friends sick in the twisties. Never encountered that in multiple (BMW) M3's.

The road to Model S — and road from here

That's welcome confirmation from a guy with 10,200 likes. I'm super happy with the driving dynamics and apparent build quality (other than headlights). Tesla service said I've got MCU2 in this pre-raven car (1/3/19 build date). Makes sense since the interface is quick with most of the...

The road to Model S — and road from here

Last month, after three years in a white MYP, I sold it and bought a babied, rattle-free 2019 Model S P100D with 26,700 miles. Yesterday on the Blue Ridge Parkway: I could list my boring "reasons" for this decision, but most reasons boil down to emotions (as David Hume pointed out), in this...

    MYP tires

P.S. One drawback: You will get a slight speedo error, +3 at 70 mph, less or more at different speeds. Can't (or won't) be corrected by Tesla or the standard onboard software.

    MYP tires

Consider tires in a different size for improved and quieter ride, rim protection, and better appearance with no or undetectable loss of range or handling. Many threads on this topic. Consensus is 265 and 295/40-21, front and rear. I've been very happy with Continental DWS 06 Plus all-season...

Maximum Tires Size Model Y Performance?

Nope. The service manager at the Richmond, VA location said he liked the look. Of course I've had no issues Tesla could hypothetically attribute to larger tires. So who knows.

Model Y Performance 21" Tires - Larger, More Comfortable Fitment Details and Experience - Michelin AS4's (With Photos)

I can't blame you. That said, I was so unhappy with the ride and curb rash that I dumped the stock tires at about 10K miles. What I got for the bloody pzeros: $80 for all four at a used tire shop. I had no place for them in a one-bedroom apartment. Repainting the two right-side wheels plus...

Model Y Performance 21" Tires - Larger, More Comfortable Fitment Details and Experience - Michelin AS4's (With Photos)

Yes, for about 20K miles I've run Conti DWS 06+ in 265 & 295/40-21 on stock uberturbines. These are A+ all-seasons with zero issues. The choice was based on 1) excellent experience with the same tires on a BMW X3 (sold) and 2) price -- several hundred less than the comparable Pilot AS4 (I think...

    Tesla Re-painted. Need some advice

I had good luck with a Tesla-approved body shop when I got rear-ended a few months back. Paintwork is excellent, undetectable. As a side note, I attempted to repair a small chip in my hood with the Tesla chip repair kit. Fail. The repair is better than the chip but still very noticeable. The sad...

Model Y Performance 21" Tires - Larger, More Comfortable Fitment Details and Experience - Michelin AS4's (With Photos)

I went with B about 20K miles ago (Conti DWS 06 Plus), and I'm extremely happy with the results. Even wear all tires at a recent state safety inspection with plenty of tread left. Speedo offset is not an issue for me. The slight bulge has prevented curb rash once or twice. Much improved ride...

    FYI: rear hatch rattle

I had a long-term, intermittent, and very annoying plastic-y "rattle" from somewhere in the rear. Seemed to come and go with outside temperature, which I found weird. When I finally took it in, the dealer immediately diagnosed the rear hatch seal and replaced it under warrantee. Gone. In...
