Besides the seat settings, I agree that it's unlikely anyone at the carwash would deliberately change settings, but it can happen inadvertently.

Yes, it seems to be a problem caused by the extreme local heat. Unplugging and re-plugging both ends seems to have resolved the issue (for now). Thanks to everyone for all the help!
