Tesla 3 Surges Backwards while Parallel Parking

Thanks Alan. Yes, my first thought was that a wheel had hung up and sprung free--perhaps. but I'm not sure. The damage was much more severe than in your photos, and I hit the other car squarely in the centre. It wasn't inexperience; I have driven T3 for five months and over a million miles...

Tesla 3 Surges Backwards while Parallel Parking

Thanks, my estimate is that the acceleration was virtually maximum. From a full stop no more than 2 metres (6 feet) away the impact crumpled the whole front end of the car ahead. As with you in your garage, I have done exactly (I think) the same thing hundreds of times without any hint of a...

Tesla 3 Surges Backwards while Parallel Parking

Thank you Daniel. You are most astute; that is exactly what I presumed exacerbated the situation for me. Yet, it has happened twice, once for my wife going forward and now in reverse for me. She was in "creep" with (we think) her foot hovering while I know that my foot was on the pedal, but...

Again, thanks. I have a lot yet to learn about this car.

Tesla 3 Surges Backwards while Parallel Parking

Thank you for this answer. "The amount of acceleration to the same amount of pedal movement while starting out in reverse being drastically different at different times" sounds very very like what I experienced. I'm not sure how to search for that thread but it will be good for me to try.

    Thanks; I wasn't aware. I'll try that.

Tesla 3 Surges Backwards while Parallel Parking

] Thank you for answering. That's a good idea. I'll try to remember to change when parking as my wife doesn't like creep mode.

Tesla 3 Surges Backwards while Parallel Parking

] Thank you for answering. I was parking manually with my foot gently (I thought) on the accelerator. I'm not blaming the car but just don't want a repeat.

Thank you for answering. I was parking manually and my foot was on the accelerator.

Tesla 3 Surges Backwards while Parallel Parking

While parallel parking in reverse very slowly, my Tesla suddenly accelerated throwing me forward and striking the car behind hard. This caused considerable damage (mostly to the other car). My confidence is shaken. Suggested causes include a wheel being locked against the curb and suddenly...

    Charging to 100%

Thanks, I have dialed it back. The manual is a puzzle though. I wondered whether it was because I have the smaller battery?

The most important way to preserve the Battery is to LEAVE YOUR VEHICLE PLUGGED IN when you are not using it."
