Discussion: Model 3 Price reductions - Jan / April / Oct 2023 and all other pricing discussions

That’s a pretty nefarious ”goodwill” offer. I don’t remember hearing about that. Can you imagine the international outcry that would happen if Tesla ever tried something similar? it would be front page news on every major media publication, politicians would be calling for investigations etc.

Discussion: Model 3 Price reductions - Jan / April / Oct 2023 and all other pricing discussions

What are these “MSRP laws”? Serious question. Dealers fight any sort of proposal for consumer protections that would help prevent price gouging and require them to act honestly and fairly. Their goal is to ensure they can price a car however they like, regardless of the MSRP and regardless of...

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

Yes I have 4,000 miles now, with probably 60% of those on standard autopilot. Haven’t had any phantom braking yet. Roads around here are terrible in general- patchy (from pothole filling), uneven with varying shades/textures, trees giving inconsistent lighting, really work lane markings, and...

    Tesla 2022 Model 3 Tires

I agree that Hankook makes some great tires. Maybe they could have been considered a lower tier manufacturer 15-20 years ago but definitely not now. Having said that this Hankook does not seem that great based on reviews. The Michelin is also far from best in class though.

Car is doesn't know which way it is pointed

I had something similar happen on a BMW a few years back. They replaced the “navigation unit”… basically the computer that runs the nav system. Could be a computer hardware issue. It sounds like you haven’t always had this problem based on your first post. did you try hard reset (foot on...

    Karpathy leaves - what's next for AP/FSD?

Hands-free towing really scares me. There is a lot that can go irreversibly bad very quickly when towing. I’m pretty surprised GM allows it to be activated.

    Karpathy leaves - what's next for AP/FSD?

True. Consumer Reports will experiment and put together a “how to” guide for fooling the camera.

    Karpathy leaves - what's next for AP/FSD?

Good point. I drove the HOV lane (no physical barriers) on the Long Island Expressway about 60 mi total last weekend and I must have had 20 cars cross the double line to pull into the lane in front of me. I don’t know if HOV lane entry and exit ever gets enforced there.

    Karpathy leaves - what's next for AP/FSD?

Isn’t Supercruise basically enhanced autopilot but with eye monitoring instead of steering wheel torque? I really hope Tesla starts using the interior camera to remove the steering wheel jerk requirement. If so I would seriously consider the $6k enhanced autopilot. Really not interested in City...

    Karpathy leaves - what's next for AP/FSD?

I would agree with all of this. Other thing thing to keep in mind is that pay for good software engineers is very good. Even considering crazy Bay Area cost of living it’s entirely feasible if you live sensibly to work 10 years out of school and be in a position, especially with stock options...

    Karpathy leaves - what's next for AP/FSD?

To be fair Steve Jobs was known to be a very harsh leader. He was visionary and had a knack of inspiring people to do things that others considered impossible, which was why people were there, but he was not easy to work with and working under him would have been no 9-5. I really don’t know...

    Karpathy leaves - what's next for AP/FSD?

They said they would have FSD safer than a human driver at end of year. The FSD Beta agreement notes “The currently enabled features require active driver supervision and do not make the vehicle autonomous. The activation and use of these features are dependent on achieving reliability far in...

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

How are you driving less safely? Tesla insurance isn’t available in my state yet but it’s something I plan to look into once it is.

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

No photo for me, but I picked up the day before you… same spec and was even in the same parking space #8 waiting for me! Pickup went smoothly. The weather was iffy but thankfully rain held off until about 10 minutes after leaving when it became absolutely torrential. 6 miles on the car and...

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

The LR does not have LFP batteries. The SR+ does and per Tesla can be regularly charged to 100%.
