I suspect that Tesla does have a plan to release RWD models sometime in the future. They are forcing all of the early reservation makers to upgrade to the current config/prices - so that they wouldn't need to sell the RWD models at the lower prices.

I was in touch with the SA every 4-6 months or so. I had all the documentation uploaded soon after placing the order. With the pandemic, I didn't urgently need a (second) vehicle - but I was keenly waiting for it to get delivered. :(

I have an order active from Jan *2020* for a RWD model. I never got an option to take delivery in this timeframe. And today, I get the same e-mail as the OP :( I wish Tesla gave other options for loyal customers who put down a $2500 deposit and have been waiting all this time.
