Tesla: we need more control over our PowerWalls

Tesla’s biggest powerwall market will be the USA where you can’t charge from the grid, so this is a non-issue there, the next biggest is Australia where the weather is a bit less changeable, so this issue will not affect them so much. The UK and other countries where this is a bigger problem are...

Tesla: we need more control over our PowerWalls

With the current energy crisis and exponential price rises one of my friends has contacted me as he's thinking of getting a battery and knows i've got one. As far as i'm concerned the Tesla Powerwall is the best physical battery available but i couldn't recommend it to him with the current...

Tesla: we need more control over our PowerWalls

I don’t think you understand the issue, in the the UK you can charge a battery from the grid to avoid expensive peak charges, but the software algorithm prevents you from doing this.

Tesla: we need more control over our PowerWalls

The Issue is the TOU software algorithm. This does not work for situations where there is a poor level of day time solar such as winter and a user is relying on supplementing the solar by topping up from the grid during cheap set off peak periods. The algorithm works by determining the amount...

Tesla: we need more control over our PowerWalls

The Uk’s rate structure is not unusual, it’s just a peak and off peak period each day. All you need is the ability to manually input the percentage you want the powerwall to charge to during the off peak so you can ensure it has sufficient charge to get you through the peak. What is unusual is...

    Beware SMETS2 meters

All my issues are finally resolved!!!!! I've had my Kaifa meter replaced with a Landis E470 (i think this is a version 2), now both my Electricity and Gas are showing on-line, my IHD is working and the phantom power draw is gone. I only issue i have is the IHD is showing the wrong tariff, but...

Powerwall Companion: Now on Android (beta)

i have been using this excellent app on an old Lumina 950 XL windows phone as a permanent monitor. It has now just stopped working. It had been working without issue for weeks, i came down this morning and it had the login page showing, when i entered my tesla credentials it just comes up with...

    Beware SMETS2 meters

My L&G meters were swapped out in December for Kaifa meters but the engineer couldn’t get them working and nothing has worked (smart) since then, so I don’t know if my leakage issue has been fixed (i’m Assuming it has), i’ve been waiting since December for a return visit (had two cancellations)...

UK Only - Tesla Energy Plan/Octopus Energy

Keep us updated with your experience with Tesla energy. Now your not charging overnight, maybe put the reserve at 10% not 0% until you see what’s going on, you don’t want the battery sat flat for extended periods.

UK Only - Tesla Energy Plan/Octopus Energy

Hi Dave, What’s happened to your Tesla app? Do you still have any control over the powerwall? Mike

    Beware SMETS2 meters

Yes it doesn't make sense to me either, i'd have expected a result similar to Johns of around 0.5kWh. I've sent the details to my supplier, we'll see what they say!

    Beware SMETS2 meters

Another example. A day with below average usage and supplied by powerwall all day.

    Beware SMETS2 meters

I also have a gateway 2 and a Landis Gyr E470 Type 5424 meter I'm raising a support case with my supplier to see what they have to say.

    Beware SMETS2 meters

I've recently had a SMETS2 meter installed and am starting to have the same concerns as you. See below the reading from my smart meter from a day where the Powerwall supplied power for the whole day... Below is the powerwall import details from the same day... and Import details below...

    Powerwalls in the UK

Mine was installed in July 2019. I also have a SolarEdge inverter, I would need to check to be sure but I believe that the setup with mine uses a modbus meter, this communicates back to the inverter and the inverter then knows if any exporting exceeds 3.68kW and clips the solar. It doesn’t know...
