    Opti-Coat Exterior Protection and Detailing

Very surprised if they'd be looking to sell any of the demo cars until there's many more cars in the country, you'd be waiting at least six months I'd guess.

Model S on NSW High Performance Vehicle List

Yeah - in Victoria you can't get off your P plates until 22 now! Not sure whether the Model S is on the list down here, but that's a pretty big pain for anyone with kids up to that age.

    Home Charging

Jeez Tim, is there anything you're not doing? :P
  4. S

    Home Charging

Yeah, Powershop are great! I've been using them since late last year, love the transparency in the pricing, ability to pre-purchase power at reduced rates and the iPhone app / website that lets me monitor my daily usage.

    Home Charging

Nice, well done! I think this is the first I've heard of the HPWC being run at 40A? Until now I'd only heard of it being set to 32A locally. How difficult was it to get the charger installed in your apartment building?

    Tesla in Australia

I'd say that there's no chance that anyone at Stratton has any more knowledge than the collective wisdom of all the purchasers and associated contacts on this forum.

    Model S Insurance in Australia

If you're going down that path, try to get it delivered to Canberra if possible - big stamp-duty savings!
  9. S

    Home Charging

Nice one, Tim! Looks heaps better than the steel capping IMO.

    Prospective buyer

Embarrassed, yes, but certainly not surprised, considering the current government's record on environmental issues.

    Tesla in Australia

All the cars originate in the US. Tesla have a European distribution centre at Tilburg where some final assembly occurs for European-bound cars. Tesla is not opening sales in New Zealand at this stage, so NZ-based purchasers like SteveWest are accepting delivery in Europe instead, and then...

    Tesla in Australia

The first RHD cars were already delivered to purchasers in the UK a while ago. It's happening.

    Home Charging

Thanks for the info! Yeah, I figured it was going to involve something like what you've described. Individual apartment meters ara currently on each floor, so short of running something back down from the meter down the riser to the garage, there probably isn't any getting around the additional...

    Financing

Wow, the finance deals you guys have over there are amazing. The cheapest secured car loans here in Australia are around the 8-10% mark.

    19" or 21" wheels

Thanks for that, good info that makes me feel more confident with my choices! I'm coming from driving Alfas for the last decade or so, so was a bit worried that the Model S might feel too much like a giant boat for my tastes.
  17. S

    Home Charging

How are people doing with getting their charging infrastructure installed, particularly within apartment buildings? I've hit a bit of a roadblock with my building electrician, who claims there simply isn't the capacity to add an additional 40A circuit, so I'm looking at short-term alternatives...

Stereo mini-plug analog input - looking for a solution

I'd suggest it was more likely that HankLloydRight was referring to Hank42, who was suggesting that inferior-quality sound transmission was an acceptable solution, which is probably unlikely to meet the OP's requirements as he was specifically considering the PonoPlayer - which seems to have a...

Tried connecting Apple external USB SuperDrive to USB port - no luck

Exactly - even if, by some off chance, there was an USB optical drive driver installed and auto-mounting the device, I'm sure that Tesla's audio player app isn't looking for an optical drive to play from and therefore would never display it as an option.

    19" or 21" wheels

To those complaining of a floaty ride on the 19"s, do you have the coil or air suspension? I'm thinking of going with the 19"s for practicality, but I like a slightly solid ride so hoping that going with the standard suspension over air will bring back a bit more of the road feel.

    List of confirmed Australian Orders

Possibly so, but it seems like the order in which the VINs go into production is far from sequential. For instance, #45160 has apparently gone into production today. Also, an order with #47064 - significantly after the first Australian batch - is scheduled for pickup at the end of the month...

    Mobile charging for Australia

For mobile 10A charging, what about an EVSE like this one with Type 2 / Mennekes plug (along with an AUS->UK plug adaptor): Portable Mode 2 EVSE Charger | NuWorld Energy

    List of confirmed Australian Orders

Cheers Tim! And welcome to danger95, another Melbournite who has just added a confirmed order to the list. So, what sort of plates are people thinking of getting on their cars? I think that some Euro plates might actually look really good on that wide rear, despite their geographic...

    List of confirmed Australian Orders

So, I changed my mind about the colour! Say hello to only the second boy-racer MC red on the list! Also added premium lighting, because lights are fun.

    List of confirmed Australian Orders

Not yet, I think it's still at least a month away. There was talk of bringing the Sydney car down to Melbourne for a week or two due to the delay in getting the second car.

    Mobile charging for Australia

Interesting question, disregarding the slight inconvenience of having to plug and unplug when parking at home, I wonder what's better for the battery life? More frequent charges over a smaller change in charge level, or less frequent, bigger top-ups?
  27. S

    List of confirmed Australian Orders

Well, it seems the initial rush of confirmations has died down. I'd love to know how many have been confirmed within Australia - what proportion of the total number of buyers frequent these forums? I wonder if Simon Hackett has confirmed his car yet?

    Vin #?

Yeah, it seems pretty random. I'm in Australia, confirmed on 5/29, and got my VIN on 6/3 - it seems most of the Australian orders happened in one batch!

    List of confirmed Australian Orders

Yeah, there's definitely a trend of the WA/QLD buyers swaying towards the solid roof and lighter colours. I'm hoping on the rare hot days in Melbourne, I can just use the iPhone app to tell the car to start cooling itself down a little while before I jump in :)

    Tesla in Australia

Word on the street is that Tesla has had more orders from Aus than any other RHD market - including Hong Kong and the UK, where pricing has been available far longer.

Both S60s too, in one fell swoop I've lost my exclusive status, and both in the same city :P

    Mobile charging for Australia

Just to dig this up again, I'm getting worried about the prospect of no mobile charger until 2015, particularly as I'm planning on getting the S60 - the prospect of getting just far enough away to not be able to make it back home is concerning! I really only need 10A when out and about, as...
  34. S

    List of confirmed Australian Orders

I meant people that had reserved signatures but not yet confirmed. There was a hint last night that a few more signature confirmations were required to guarantee that signature cars were delivered before production, but I'm sure that won't end up being the case.

    Tesla in Australia

Interesting, I notice that there's no option to upgrade the tyres on the S60 here like there is in the US - does this mean that Australian 60s come with the upgraded tyres as standard? Not that it matters too much, as it seems I'm so far the only one to order the 60 :P

    List of confirmed Australian Orders

Funny you should mention that, I'm getting a lot of pressure from the SO to change from brown, so it might not last long! I'm waiting to see the samples tomorrow night before deciding - I've never seen a single Model S in the flesh, but I do like the brown in most of the photos I've found, so...

    Tesla in Australia

The basic conceit of the article is true though, and something that us Tesla lovers have known for some time. Tesla is disruptive in that in all its world markets so far, it's charging just the cost of the vehicle in the US, plus any applicable local taxes and the cost of importation. This is...

    Tesla in Australia

Great info, thanks Dborn - though obviously will confirm once Tesla AU has their charging infrastructure info finalised. Has anyone calculated yet how long a standard charge would take on a 60/85kWh Model S with both 40A (single charger) and 80A (dual charger, three phase?) supply?
  43. S

    Tesla in Australia

To be honest, there's no way I'd consider buying the car without the tech package. I think it's pretty terrible that it's not included as standard for the price they're asking for the car - the Model S is all about tech, but without the tech package it's a kind of stunted experience. I agree...

    Tesla in Australia

Very nice! It seems surreal, to have been looking at these lists of specs from the USA buyers for so long and only now being able to announce them for ourselves. A Melbourne Tesla Club seems like it's quickly on the way!

    Tesla in Australia

Yeah I had the same problem, had to refresh the page a number of times before it appeared properly, evidently there's still the odd glitch in there! Confirmed mine just now - very excited. S60 in metallic brown, 19" wheels, pano roof, black leather, carbon fiber interior, tech package and...

    Tesla in Australia

True, but ACT pricing is over $5k cheaper than VIC, for a 60kWh with only minimal options. Vic rego fees are about $700.
  47. S

    Tesla in Australia

I was thinking, what's to stop me buying it for the ACT, taking a $50 airfare up and driving it back to Melbourne, to save a few thousand? Then I remembered... no superchargers just yet, haha. This electric car business is going to take a while to get used to :p
