    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

Ioniq and MachE have a lot of problems from what I have read. But, that is skewed since it's all internet chatter. Tesla has had quite a few as well. All EV's will get press because it gets clicks and ad revenue. The anti-ev stance plays to a receptive audience that loves to comment and...

Model Y Reverse UFO Sound Change/Disable

c'mon a washing machine makes more sound than backing up for 10 sec.... I also would never disable the sound, which in a bad scenario, opens you up to a big liability.

Model Y Reverse UFO Sound Change/Disable

There is a decibel level requirement. I don't know if Tesla is well above that or meets that requirement. I agree it should only be at the min required level.

Tesla's reason for not adding spare tires, doesn't make sense.

plugs in the middle tread are perfectly safe and any major tire chain will repair them. Shoulder punctures, they won't. manufacturer oem jacks are reliable as are spare tires. They require user knowledge, which many aren't willing to put in the effort. So, the reason manufacturers can so...

yeah runflats suck. they ride bad too.

Tesla's reason for not adding spare tires, doesn't make sense.

This is 2023. Seven years ago, many cars had spare tires. BMW currently offers zero cars with spare tires standard, and only one or two with the option for a spare.
  8. E

    How do you remove these?

they are one use locking washers. the teeth dig into plastic nub. Usually a flathead or trim pry tool will pop it off without breaking the nub. Use a pick to bend back the teeth off the nub if you can- if you don't have a new washer, hammer the old one flat and push it on when you're done.

Best way to charge to prevent battery degradation?

I believe these are estimated calculated by the car. When it is fully charged, the estimate will change- or something to this effect.... basically what you're seeing is not the true range or condition of the battery but an estimate. Someone can correct me, but I believe this is what I've been...

Tesla's reason for not adding spare tires, doesn't make sense.

Spare tires are not standard on Audi- it's optional on the Q7. They used to have compact spares on the A4 line but not sure if they still do. Q5 isn't covered with spare, maybe optional. BMW covers it with fix a flat and runflat tires. Most don't have spare tires. Maybe some suv models as an...

Tesla's reason for not adding spare tires, doesn't make sense.

about 1/3 of cars on offer don't have spares and that will only grow. and that list of ev's with spare tires - most are legacy ice chassis and/or trucks and, in the case of the Hummer, garbage vaporware though yes it has a spare. All the mainstream ev's don't have them though yes, I wish tesla...

Tesla's reason for not adding spare tires, doesn't make sense.

We're talking about spare tires and Tesla is no different than every other auto maker. You asked how weight could matter, and it does. I was speaking to manufacturing processes, not features.
  13. E

Tesla's reason for not adding spare tires, doesn't make sense.

It's one component of many in weight reduction. They don't just look at the spare but to drop 50lbs with one non-mandatory, non-essential component is massive. Tesla also has to counter a very heavy full glass roof. Cost savings- lets be generous and say $50-60 for parts and labor time per...

Tesla's reason for not adding spare tires, doesn't make sense.

the main reason manufacturers eliminated spare tires is efficiency and cost. In the quest for meeting MPG standards, they cut the spare and tools. Tesla, along with every other EV except Rivian, deletes the spare in favor of maximizing range. GM is probably the biggest by numbers...maybe Tesla...

burbank service center drove my car 110+ miles during service?!

I can confirm they do work late at Burbank Tesla. I dropped off a loaner car and got notification after 11pm that the loaner just got put on a supercharger. btw, I've only received excellent service there. It's not so relevant because everyone is different, but so far so good from my experience.

Cold Feet: Reassurance or Reality - Tesla MYLR as a Road Warrior Vehicle?

yeah dunno why people are so butthurt that I said it. ICE cars have 400-500mile range and never have to stop for such a trip. Trade off in savings is fine as long as you are ok with it.

10+ Reasons Why I Love My 2023 Model S vs. My 2022 Model Y Performance

We had a loaner for a while and prefer the Y. The S drives smooth and the door cards are nice (Y should have this level of quality on door cards) It's funny getting used to the IP - this particular one didn't have the side cameras turn on when you signal like the Y (not sure if the S just...

Cold Feet: Reassurance or Reality - Tesla MYLR as a Road Warrior Vehicle?

weekly 300 mile trip. gas fill is a few minutes and there are stations everywhere. charging takes quite a bit longer, even if it's 20-30min that's a long time in comparison. Also, most ice would have no problem with AC or heat blasting and never needing to stop for 300miles.
  21. E

Cold Feet: Reassurance or Reality - Tesla MYLR as a Road Warrior Vehicle?

As long as you are ok with frequent supercharging (meaning much longer stops compared to gas) it's ideal for your use case. you will save much more $ on maintenance and fuel with such high mileage use compared to a gas vehicle.

burbank service center drove my car 110+ miles during service?!

Burbank Tesla is 1 mile from the 5 freeway onramp. 101, 134, 5, 118, 405 are all within 5-6 miles. Easily can reach speeds of 80mph+ except during rush hour. Try to drive 110 miles in three days in LA. It's 15 miles from the valley to the beach and PCH HWY 1. Most likely someone used the...

    Model Y Competitor Coming - Volvo EX30 0-60 in 3.4 Sec, Starts at $35K

Polestar already has a M3 competitor that's been out for years. Hasn't moved the needle in the slightest. Volvo won't either. They are relative niche players, even in the ICE space.

Rear of Y always dirty - why?

spoiler will make it worse and probably makes aerodynamics a tad better by increasing the low pressure zone.. It's aerodynamics. Suv's have this as does any vehicle with a kamm tail or large, low pressure zone behind it.

Ford will add NACS to next gen EVs!

Ford will add NACS to next gen EVs!

That's what I said Elon Musk, Tesla’s chief executive, promised to provide 7,500 open-access chargers in the U.S. by the end of 2024, according to Biden administration officials. Taxpayer dollars will pay for the conversion of existing Tesla chargers or the construction of new ones to...

Ford will add NACS to next gen EVs!

Ford isn't paying Tesla NACS is a standard Tesla wants mass adoption. Remember - Tesla is required to have CCS charging at their Supercharger stations. This is a federal requirement Tesla agreed to. But those magic docks will be limited. They won't be on every station. Ford using NACS is...

    Any risks ordering inventory cars?

They are discounting Model 3's because they want to clear out before the redesign comes out. I got the email and all the sale cars are 3's. I think this means the new 3 introduction must be around the corner.

Ford will add NACS to next gen EVs!

Strategic offensive move by Ford. One of the larger determining factors in purchasing an ev is the Supercharger network. GM and Stellantis will now appear like old tech stuck on CCS. Win for Ford, against US competition. Win for Tesla if this opens the floodgates for NACS to become the...

Replacing the headrest in the model 3/S-Maybe this helps someone

In the history of automobiles? You mean like Audi RS8, all RS and R sports seats with non-adj headrests or Nissan GTR seats or all 911 seats like the current four optional seats for the 911 that are all one piece, narrow, no adj headrest or the BMW M seats or Lexus LFA or RC seats? Or all race...

Rear door manual emergency release modification (safety)

Replacing the headrest in the model 3/S-Maybe this helps someone

They sell aftermarket headrests with monitors on them with adjustable posts. There's probably some liability in there somewhere but not a big deal unless it's directly involved in the injury and the insurance wants to fight you based on an aftermarket headrest. Personally, the Tesla seats...

Model Y Reverse UFO Sound Change/Disable

The point is simply disabling a mandatory safety device and someone doesn't hear you backing up and then getting hit - opens you up to liability. The noise emitter is not for speed limit travel. The reason no sound emitter is required above 18mph is because the majority of noise above that is...

New Edmunds' Article. Mach-E GT vs MYP.

The Ford Foundation is a different entity from FoMoCo I don't see a conflict with TrueCar either. They are very transparent about all their financials. CR is very different from most that accept promo pkgs, trips and ad dollars. I don't listen to any of them for car buying but do give...

Model Y Reverse UFO Sound Change/Disable

I believe Tesla is in compliance with the NHTSA mandate. There are very specific ranges the sound has to be in. I'll link the NHTSA white paper below Passive noise emitter, on Tesla, is much louder in reverse. I think it's barely audible forward. The manual active, infinitely variable duration...
  40. E

Model Y Reverse UFO Sound Change/Disable

The noise is federally mandated for ev's by the NHTSA my point is if you disable it, or any passive safety device- and hit a pedestrian, you're opening yourself to potential legal problems.

CR is a non-profit They get grants from the Ford Foundation. Is that what you're talking about? They don't accept any advertising money

I wouldn't unplug it. It would open you up to an uninsurable liability if you backed into someone.
