Discussion: Model 3 Price reductions - Jan / April / Oct 2023 and all other pricing discussions

Part of me thinks (hopes?) that at the end of one of these upcoming quarters, Elon will do a '2 day special' on EAP/FSD upgrades to add a little revenue boost. Right now the upgrade from EAP to FSD is $9K. No way I'm down for that, but at $2-3K, I could be swayed.

Discussion: Model 3 Price reductions - Jan / April / Oct 2023 and all other pricing discussions

I did just that, for my '20 M3P. This was late Dec, with the $7500 and 10K SC miles. Delta is $1500 vs. today (less value of 10K SC miles) and red/black M3P is not eligible for tax credit. I'm still happy with my decision. Got a fresh battery, better range (vs. the '20 M3P), faster MCU, heat...

Model 3 Performance Waiting Room [2020-2023]

You might see updates this coming week. And a M3P is going to feel considerably faster than your vette, while provide much more comfort and usability.

    M3P Tire Selection in SoCal

Yeah those skinny tires on the OEM 20s might be more fragile than you're used to, even little holes can cause big problems. I put on a set of 19s today. I would have preferred summer tires instead of the factory all-season. I might switch after I wear these out.

    M3P Tire Selection in SoCal

Howdy! I live in Dallas, and I'm on my 2nd Model 3 P, going on 3 years in total. Always had the 20" wheels and standard summer tires. They never gave me a problem when cold. Obviously I didn't go out in it when we had snowmageddon in '21. However, I just secured a set of 19" Tesla wheels...

FYI: My opinion is Model 3 > Model S

I'm on my second M3P, but I drove a new Model S LR before I bought my second M3P. To me, the Model S LR felt just as fast as my M3P. The interior was a noticeable step up, as well as the sound system. But ultimately the Model S just felt like too big a car for me. Even though I think it's the...

Selling Tesla to Online retailers, when do you remove car from account

Correct she sold to a third party, got a new Tesla later that day.
  8. T

    Latest on what is included?

While generally true, I believe the orange rear turn signals of the Model 3 corresponded with the 2023 model year switchover. For the M3P, I believe the gunpowder gray wheels were only available for model year 2020. I'm sure there are other examples, but thought of these off the top of my head.

Selling Tesla to Online retailers, when do you remove car from account

I understand being paranoid. But if you're handing over the key cards, you have paperwork with a legal agreement that they're purchasing they car. Keeping the car linked to your Tesla account only exposes you to unneeded risk. My friend recently did this, and within 2 days of handing over the...

Selling Tesla to Online retailers, when do you remove car from account

Right when you hand over the key cards. Who cares when you pay off the loan, the bank doesn't know or care who has access to the car itself.

Model 3 Performance Waiting Room [2020-2023]

Only the Standard Range Y built in Austin has 4680s. And you can't configure-to-order those, you have to pick them out of existing inventory. Look for Model Y with 269mi range. That's it. Those are the only vehicles with 4680s.

Model 3 Performance Waiting Room [2020-2023]

Keep in mind, BMW will certainly sell/trade your M4 directly. Whereas Tesla has to sell it via auction/wholesaler. So they're never going to offer you the same value.

Model 3 Performance Waiting Room [2020-2023]

$77.7K + tax savings on trade-in should be almost the same as $84K from BMW? If it makes you feel better, I previously owned a '12 E92 M3, then a '16 F80 M3. I went to the Performance Model 3 in late '19, and just bought my second one. I'm not going back to BMW or ICE cars :p

Have to decide early today between keeping mu 18 m3p and getting a new 2023 m3p

Correct! Unfortunately I have small kids, so I'm too scared of the white interior. And my '16 BMW was white, so I needed to mix things up a bit.

2023 Model 3 without USS and proximity functionality [park assist / summon not available]

$6,000 USD for EAP. $15K is for FSD beta (includes EAP).

Model 3 Performance Waiting Room [2020-2023]

I have owned a M3P since Dec '19. Even though I'm in TX, it's been below 45F plenty of times. Car drives fine. Just don't do stupid stuff. Would I want them for a whole NY winter, no. But they don't turn into ice bricks at 45F.

2023 Model 3 without USS and proximity functionality [park assist / summon not available]

Everyone that took delivery of a car with no USS had to electronically acknowledge that parking assist functionality would be limited.

Discussion: Model 3 Price reductions - Jan / April / Oct 2023 and all other pricing discussions

Sure it has. Go buy a brand new BMW X3 today. Tomorrow, go get a quote from Carmax. Promise you, you'll be lucky to get a cash offer of 20% less than you paid 24 hours previously from a BMW dealer.
  20. T

Have to decide early today between keeping mu 18 m3p and getting a new 2023 m3p

No. The base price I paid was $55,490 after the $7500. Today the same car/base price is $53,990. You might be getting the 'cash' discount of $7500 (no longer available) confused with the 'tax' discount of $7500. As mentioned, the car I got (red M3P) is not eligible for any Federal tax credit...

Have to decide early today between keeping mu 18 m3p and getting a new 2023 m3p

If you had ordered a red or black M3P at the end of '22 and gotten the M3P, price delta today would be $1500, and no Supercharger miles. So maybe $1K delta max. Not worth jumping off a bridge. Red/black M3P too high for any Federal tax credits, too.

Model 3 Performance Waiting Room [2020-2023]

While it's true that M3P white/gray/blue (not black or red) would fall under the $55K MSRP, the Fed website doesn't list the M3P as an eligible vehicle. Hopefully an oversight that will be soon corrected.

    M3LR trade in for MYP?

Carmax will be less. They told me 2 weeks ago that all 3/S/X go straight to wholesalers. Only Y stays for retail sales/lots. This was before the price cuts, so expect Carmax to continue to offer low prices.

Model 3 Performance Waiting Room [2020-2023]

On Teslas, you can adjust those sensitivities. The auto-braking can literally save you from a collision, it did for me.

Model 3 Performance Waiting Room [2020-2023]

I'm on Model 3 Performance #2, after many years of BMW M-series. Leave the 'nanny' stuff on, it will save your ass. You're not giving up any performance or handling by enabling the safety features. A lot of it is automatic, regardless. Welcome to the future!
  26. T

How long can I expect a model 3 to last?

No cabin air filters? Had my '20 M3P for three years, and replacing those was the only maintenance I ever had. I don't like any musty smell :)
  27. T

Why do people always park next to me?

Like many of you, I deliberately park out of the way, even if my kids complain we have to walk far to get into the store/wherever. Totally true story, from about 4 years ago when I was driving a new BMW X3 M40i... I go to CVS with my daughter, and park at the very far end of the parking lot...

    Matrix Headlights on LR Y?

Yeah, when I first noticed it, I was definitely annoyed. Then when I read why it was happening (due to the 'leakage' into the sensor) it became even more of an annoyance.
  29. T

    Matrix Headlights on LR Y?

I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. Although my Model 3 has the newer style, I haven't been able to discern any perceivable difference or improvement. My old M3P had the blinker-flash-at-night problem, but that was rectified years ago with the older style.
  30. T

    Matrix Headlights on LR Y?

Checking in here, have yet to see any Model Y with the new camera housing. Post pics? New cameras on the fenders, with concentric rings around the lens:

Seeking advise on possible used Model 3 purchase.

It won't bother many (most?) people, but that Intel Atom processor means using the screen can be occasionally laggy. Might want to try-before-you-buy, as there's no way to make it go any faster, i.e. if it annoys you now you'll be annoyed with it forever.
  32. T

Looks like they are removing stalks from the 3/Y

I test drove a refresh S at the Plano, TX/Legacy West center last month. It really wasn't that strange, seemed like something you'd get used to. I think the 'no gear shifter' and (lack of standard) horn would be a more awkward adjustment than the yoke shape or turn signals.

Tesla Wall Charger, how to tell the difference between Gen 2 vs Gen 3?

I have the Gen 2, and it reaches my car with just a couple of feet to spare. I hope it never dies, as the 18ft cord on the Gen 3 would cost me a lot to re-wire the charger's location relative to my car.
  34. T

Which Car to Take on Trip?

I'd take the newer car. Unless you get annoyed by the inevitable rock chips or potential damage that a roadtrip typically invites. Then your older one might make more sense.

    M3P: Old 20' Sport Rims/Tires vs. 20' Uberturbines

Funny, my experience is the opposite. I had a 2020 M3P with the 20" wheels and PS4s. Last week I traded in for a 2023 M3P with Uberturbines and Pirelli tires. Much better ride on the new car.
  36. T

    M3P: Old 20' Sport Rims/Tires vs. 20' Uberturbines

Interesting! Did you have to do any modifications to the wheels? Do they have the cut-out for the hub lip on the M3P? Did you buy those 2nd hand, or directly from Tesla?

Performance 20" Gray Wheel Touch Up Paint?

The 2020 M3 Performance wheel color is technically called Gunpowder. Here's my touch up thread (could never find the exact Gunpowder paint). https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/scratch-repair-suggestions-for-20-gray-performance-wheel.180543/

DiY HomeLink Install using in car Service Mode - No need for Tesla Service or ToolBox

@RoBoRaT No I didn't see anything plugged into the radar connector in my 11/22 build Model 3. @Rheckbert3 great write-up! Really appreciate the pictures, too. The only 'extra steps' I did for mine: I put a long zip-tie around the bracket to secure the module, just in case that friction clip on...

Passenger side (maybe B pillar) rattle, drives me crazy!

Had the same problem on my newly-delivered Model 3. I stuck a piece of black adhesive felt to the back/side of the passenger seat where the seatbelt was hitting. You can also use the fuzzy half of those adhesive velcro strips. Easy to find at a hardware store.

Fastest time from order to delivery options?

I was not planning on replacing/upgrading my 2020 Model 3P at all. But the $7500 + tax savings (so $8K) and 10K supercharging miles was substantial enough for me to buy a new car. We already knew the Model 3 Performance wasn't going to be eligible for the 2023+ tax credits, so it's not like...

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

Understood that there have been slight differences in lights. But my point was that they've now converged (finally), so splitting them to divergent parts/paths would make little sense.
  43. T

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

I could buy into that. Sure, a yoke, stalk-delete and maybe a few more tweaks (that will all come to the Y at the same time or soon thereafter) make sense. But these speculations about a wild 'revamp' with 4680s, Plaid-version, air-suspension and other major customer-facing enhancements just...

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

I never said there wouldn't be any change coming. I said I don't expect any substantial update, especially ones as wild as I've seen speculated. And anything beyond cosmetic bumpers, I would expect to see carried over to the Y, as well.
  45. T

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

The 3/Y interiors are 95%(I'm guessing) identical, so if you're going to change up the 3's interior then the Y would change too - else costs go up. I saw the spy photos, but the 3/Y share the same tail lights and headlights. So why would they change one and not the other? If they did, costs...

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

Maybe in 5 years. Tesla is already behind on the Roadster, Cybertruck and (maybe?) whatever the robotaxi is going to be. They need to get the Cybertruck ramped and pumping out volume in order to keep up free cash flow. That will take a few years. Everything you're saying would be applicable to...
