Model 3 SR+ LFP Battery Range, Degradation, etc Discussion

What about before the buffer increased? How often to 100%? Weekly? Maybe discharging to 15% or less and leaving it there for a few hours, then charging to 100% might help.

Great Aussie EV Road trips - Live to drive - Drive to Live

It’s fine but you have to watch out over school holidays/peak periods (plan extra time for charging or drive overnight). Christmas gets pretty wild. We’re buying another Tesla next year, probably a Y. Amazing car for the price.

Great Aussie EV Road trips - Live to drive - Drive to Live

Yep, no road trip is long enough in a Tesla! 4000km is a picnic!!!

Model 3 SR+ LFP Battery Range, Degradation, etc Discussion

I haven't really seen evidence of that, however if that was the case then it could be explained by LFP owners charging to 100% frequently (higher calendar ageing above 70%).

    Coming Soon - Tesla Summon

All true but this is a logical step towards a driverless service. In my country FSD is illegal, no way would this be approved. A Uber style service with Tesla’s only certainly would. I also find it very hard to find EVs with Uber that aren’t hybrids. I don’t see why the user can’t directly...

Model 3 SR+ LFP Battery Range, Degradation, etc Discussion

It is very clear that LFP calendar ageing is comparable to that of NCA. There has been ample evidence posted in this discussion.

    Coming Soon - Tesla Summon

Some of you are reading too much into it. Nowhere does it suggest FSD. This is what Uber is already doing, just slightly more advanced : -summon your ride -adjust the interior temperature -view progress My guess is that this is Uber with Tesla’s - there will be a driver. May or not be using...

The Good the BAD and UGLY experience Of Cross Country Trip

A bit harsh on the responses guys. Not sure how legit the OP is but I don’t think it’s fair to bash religious beliefs etc. I tend not to run the car below 10% on trips unless it is necessary - typically that means another few minutes at the supercharger. Not sure if that would have made a...

Model 3 SR+ LFP Battery Range, Degradation, etc Discussion

I wouldn't cycle a LFP exclusively between 40 and 60%. This is good for long term storage but not for daily use. Just make sure you charge it to 100% every 1-2 weeks. I have changed my charging behaviour a bit now, I charge to 100% before long drives or even before the weekend if I know I will...

Powerwall 3 calibration in process, what is this?

Good to know, I am looking at the PW3 for a new solar installation. I definitely want the LFP chemistry as it seems perfectly suited for home storage.

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

Such a nice looking car. I really can't love the aero inserts however. I'd probably take the old Stiletto's off my current car and keep them for the next one :)
  16. karlos22

    Is this not deceptive?

Yes, it is. Having said that, if people are silly enough to believe it..... I didn't pay attention to that figure and I also didn't buy into the fake promise of FSD (which is very far behind the USA in terms of it ever being released here). Tesla is a sneaky company and Elon is a lunatic, but...

To protect the screen or not to?

2022 Model 3, no issues without one. I wipe the screen with the supplied cloth once a week or so. I did consider one right at the beginning, but decided not to when I saw how much plastic and crap was involved for 1 measly screen protector. I also always use a sun shade, even in winter!

Model 3 SR+ LFP Battery Range, Degradation, etc Discussion

It sounds like he chargers to 90% then parks it where there is no L2 charger available (apartment complex for example) for months on end. That’s not suitable for low SOC due to vampire drain. Considering how he is treating the battery (high SOC storage, although temp is good) it has held up...

    Let's see those gas guzzlers!!!

Got rid of both ICE and ended up with one m3. Eventually I will need a second car and it will be a model y. Would love a S but they don’t sell here. Will never go back. I get it for rare/antique cars, but for anything performance related the Tesla smokes them all so I don’t see the point.

  25. karlos22

Model 3 SR+ LFP Battery Range, Degradation, etc Discussion

The charging to 100% myth for LFP is completely overblown. Charge to 100% as often you need to, just do not leave it there for extremely long periods of time (weeks, months). Days is ok. Weeks or months not so much. But even so, as AAKEE demonstrated, that means an extra 3% degradation. Does it...

No i don’t. Car had behaved this way since day 1.
  27. karlos22

Model 3 SR+ LFP Battery Range, Degradation, etc Discussion

There must be some sort of top buffer for the LFP as there is still a lot of regen when the battery is fully charged. The actual amount I do not know, but clearly if it was 100% true SOC there would be zero regen.
  28. karlos22

The few times Tesla has addressed battery degradation, they have simply lied and dismissed it.

stop looking at the range indicator at 100%. If your car had 10-20% degradation you wouldn’t even notice unless you frequently drive insanely long distances. Even then it doesn’t really matter apart from a few minutes more at the supercharger. Set it to % and forget about it.

Model 3 SR+ LFP Battery Range, Degradation, etc Discussion

Can you elaborate? I have been following this thread since I purchased my car just over 2 years ago. To my knowledge there aren't too many outliers when it comes to age vs degradation. I'm sitting around 5% and I believe most others are in that vicinity. From my own research across other sites...

Model 3 SR+ LFP Battery Range, Degradation, etc Discussion

All there is right now are the lab tests and what you see on tesla logger (doesn’t indicate charging habits). From what I can tell here, most cars seem to be reducing at the same rate regardless of charging habits. This has lead to the suspicion by some that the EPA range display is pre...

I've enagaged lawyers in an attempt to recover FSD cost (Australian owner)

I am surprised that the ACCC has not cracked down on this. FSD is coming, evidently, judging by what is currently available in the USA - however depending on our regulators this could be years further down the track. Furthermore, it will likely be a subscription model when it is released. I...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Best update in a long time! I love the new UI, wiper adjustment via the scroll wheels, adaptive high beams improvements and nav enhancements. The larger speedometer is also welcome. Auto wipers seem better, used it in rain and it was ok. No dry wipes yet, but I am sure they are coming lol. I...

    Superchargers in Australia

I did read see the tweet. As long as they keep expanding, I am happy :) But yes other charging providers need to come to the party as well, although I never touch third party chargers if a Tesla is nearby due to the so often poor reliability.

    Superchargers in Australia

Worrying for Australia, we desperately need more stalls over here especially with the recent surge in Tesla sales. If they don't keep building new sites or adding stalls at a high rate, I wouldn't bother driving my Tesla anywhere on the east coast motorways during the holidays.

    An interesting journey last night

Interestingly I have had the opposite experience, since owning a Tesla i drive about twice the amount of miles I used to. It is also worth noting that 0% is not always 0%. The car might drive another 10 or 20 miles beyond that, but I wouldn’t plan on it. Always good to have in your back pocket...

Great Aussie EV Road trips - Live to drive - Drive to Live

Interesting, definitely hasn’t been the case for my 2022 model 3 so I wonder if there is a difference somewhere. Although it was so bad for a while I am now scared to use it. I always keep a wet cloth and squeegee in the frunk on long drivers for the inevitable dry wipe on a bug filled...

Long Term Battery Costs, Fears, and Serviceability

Why would a battery need to be replaced due to degradation? Isn’t the average degradation for a 10 year old Tesla something like 10%? With LFP this becomes even less of a problem. By the time the battery is so degraded that you will notice the car will be destined for the scrap yard.
