Most of the shorters are like career criminals. They just can't let go of the habit. They make a lot of money in one big heist and become very popular and a darling of financial media. Media puts them in a pedestal. The always get prefixed with glorifying adjectives like: who correctly called...

SpaceX Starship - Integrated Flight Test #2 - Starbase TX - Including Post Launch Dissection

Your analogy here clearly explains the problem. The fact that FWS needs several months lead time for approval is the real problem here. So what should SpaceX do here? apply for approval for the next 8 launches, if they are planning to launch one every month? I used to work for a company where...

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

Russia has ZERO interests to occupy and annexe Ukraine. Primarily because they know they do not have the economic, political and military wherewithal to make that happen. Russia's primary goals are: - While Ukraine can maintain its independence economically and politically, make sure it does...

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

Vivek says, don't get caught up in little local skirmishes, when the real existential danger for America is China. Do whatever it takes to keep China under control, if it means losing a bit of a ground somewhere else. A US-Europe-Russia-India alliance will keep China out of Taiwan without any...

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

Russia, if there is not one today, is working on preventing an existential crisis by not allowing Ukraine to join NATO. Ukraine joining NATO will be very bad for Russia's security and also economically. They need unfettered land access to Black sea which NATO can cut off anytime if Ukraine...

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

The delusion I see in this thread of 'bad evil Russia that should be eliminated from the face of the earth', and 'Ukraine is winning the war' is mindboggling. Lets face it, Russia is a spent force, both militarily and economically and is not a threat. But because this is an existential crisis...

Nitpick: I hate the ".00" at the end of the big numbers which has zero value addition, except to make a long number seem even more bigger. What might be useful is to round them off to make it visually easier to read but till convey the message. Like: $230M, -$764M, $69M

SpaceX Starship - Integrated Flight Test #2 - Starbase TX - Including Post Launch Dissection

But perhaps the additional weight of heavier steel (compared to Aluminum) negates the advantage of not carrying extra fuel..? I am sure SpaceX would have all the details, but the decision to use steel has one key disadvantage of higher weight and many advantages of which one of them is the...

SpaceX Starship - Integrated Flight Test #2 - Starbase TX - Including Post Launch Dissection

You need to have all three burns for the booster - boostback, entry and landing burn. Without entry burn the booster will hit the atmosphere at a pretty high speed, assuming the speed at MECO is comparable with F9.
  20. E

SpaceX Starship - Integrated Flight Test #2 - Starbase TX - Including Post Launch Dissection

Why no entry burn for booster? Entry burn is to reduce the speed the craft hits the atmosphere

SpaceX Starship - Integrated Flight Test #2 - Starbase TX - Including Post Launch Dissection

Something seems amiss with the boostback trajectory. After MECO and separation the booster is shown flying west (reverse direction) for a short period. That means it has zeroed the eastward velocity and gained some velocity in the reverse (westward) direction. YET later the graphic shows the...

I think you are missing the spirit of Gigapress's message. Physical demonstration of a gravity assist in 2D

This is a really cool demo. All along I was thinking the increase in speed of the spacecraft due to gravity assist is primarily a function of the gravity (or mass) of the planet. But actually it is a function of how fast the planet is orbiting the sun. The gravity just changes the direction...
