Bought a P3D- for many reasons - environmental consideration wasn't one of them

Right. Engines need to run rich when cold. That extra fuel (and water) leaches-into the oil and continues to dilute the oil until the driver eventually either gets the oil up to full temperature (to burn-off the excess water and fuel) or changes the oil. Oil changes are a thing of the past for...

How to test standard 110/120 V outlet?

Used it today. It was cold to the touch after several hours of charging, whereas my 15A cord would get very warm.

How to test standard 110/120 V outlet?

I received the cord and it is indeed stamped with "20A" on it (not 15A). It is quite thick and heavy. It also has a UL-certified sticker on it.

    Tesla Cybrtrk

Not really related, but reminds me of Joke told by Jeremy Clarkson: Mercedes Engineer: We randomly select a car on the assembly line, put a cat in it and leave it there overnight. If the cat dies of suffocation by morning, we know the seals are good enough. Jaguar Engineer: We randomly select...

    Cybertruck in sub. -30C temperatures

Does it do this by default, or do you need to navigate to a supercharger in order to activate it? When navigating to a supercharger, I can hear unusualy sounds from the motors. I have never heard those sounds otherwise, even when regen is mostly disabled due to cold battery.

Regarding the talk about it growing on you, wait until you see it in-person. I think it will grow on you even more. I haven’t seen it in-person, but when watching the unveiling, I thought it looked much better on the road during the test drives than it did on stage. I had a BMW i3, which I...

    Model Y or Mustang Mach-E

Model Y because Mach-E is not made in the USA...... ....and the fact that you have to buy the Ford from a dealer. Tesla has spoiled me with their buying process and I’m very “out of practice “ in terms of negotiating with dealers and getting shaken-down with add-ons, fees, etc. Mach-E will be...

Because it's electric. Instant torque (and lots of it). No gear-changes. AWD for better traction. Probably better aero too,

One pedal mode uses the brakes?

The energy meter showing power usage could be the cabin heater which can get over-ridden by regen which is why it looks like you're using power when you get below a certain speed. Or, if you are navigating to a supercharger, the battery preconditioning will also show power usage on the meter. I...

Thoughts on the Mustang Mach E

I don't think the charging is free. It's the FordPass membership that's free for the first two years. My guess is that FordPass will have a subscription fee. From your article: " Ford is providing two years of complimentary access to North America's largest network – the FordPass Charging...

I can smell the heater when it’s on....a mild burning smell. I have never smelled it when it was warm outside and AC was on.

Don't want heater on, want vent

This is great information, but I don't think the cabin-cooling AC system runs full-on or off-off only. When you first turn-on the AC in the summer, you can hear the compressor running loudly, but it starts to ramp-down as the cabin begins to cool. I would bet it's a variable stroke/variable load...

How to test standard 110/120 V outlet?

Yes, but a couple of concerns. One is that this extension cord with which I hijacked this thread is suspect for using on a 20A outlet. I'm not comfortable with that. Second, the 12A charging is plenty fast for my daily needs and, in a pinch, I have two supercharger locations within a mile away...

How to test standard 110/120 V outlet?

How to test standard 110/120 V outlet?

I can’t believe I didn’t notice that it was stamped with 15A on it. I’m not going to use it with a 5-20 adapter so hopefully it’s better with the 5-15 adapter vs. what I’m currently using. I’ll,report back when I get it and let you all know what it’s like.

How to test standard 110/120 V outlet?

Thanks guys. I checked the cord and it doesn’t have a legible label on it so I ordered one of these 12awg 20A cords (pictured below). The garage outlets are NEMA 5-20 so it’s compatible. I probably should but the Tesla NEMA 5-20 adapter for my UMC but the 12A charging that I do now is plenty...

How to test standard 110/120 V outlet?

I actually use an extension cord because the outlets in our parking structure are upside down (ground on top) and the UMC is not designed to plug-in that way. The cord I use is only 1ft long. I'm not sure if it's 12 guage or not, but it is rated at 15A. It definitely gets warm to the touch and I...

How to test standard 110/120 V outlet?

I'm no electrician (or an expert) but it could have something to do with voltage-drop. Perhaps there are other loads on that circuit that are drawing amps? Are all 12 of the outlets on separate circuits? I'm guessing not. Have you tried dropping the charging amps down just to see if it'll then...

    Manual Transmission / Stick Drivers

If all cars have always been electric from the beginning and someone came-out with a combustion car right now, do you think shifting gears (and engine noise) would be rewarding or is that just a conditioned response based on years of nostalgia? I feel like engine noise and gears are part of a...

    Manual Transmission / Stick Drivers

I got flamed on here for saying this several years ago, but I suggested that Tesla sell an electronic stick shift kit for their cars. It can have a dummy clutch and a shifter while integrating those into the car's electronics. They can make sound, put a tach on the screen and emulate a manual...

    What convinced you to buy?

Transmissions are terrible. The lack thereof is one of the underappreciated advantages of EVs. I have always hated the transmissions in my ICE cars (except the manuals but those were a PITA in traffic).

I wonder who started that whole 9/10 pricing at gas stations. Now everyone does it. Sort of how one ice cream manufacturer decided to shrink their half gallons to 1.5 quarts. Looks almost the same but has 25% less. Now they are all 1.5 quarts. Amazing.

Option to turn regen braking off...

I haven't tried it, but I think if you slide the gear selector up gently, it'll go-into neutral. If you push-past the indent, it'll go-into reverse.
  39. gavine

Option to turn regen braking off...

Agreed. Human-controlled is better, but the op doesn't want to do that so cruise is a close second option.

  41. gavine

Option to turn regen braking off...

Exactly. On that stretch where the op can coast for a mile, if he puts it in cruise control, the car will effectively hold the throttle in the neutral position for him, thus enabling him to basically "coast" with using the pedal. It may blip up or down slightly, but that would be negligible...

    What convinced you to buy?

I haven't had a gas car since 2016 so I don't pay attention to gas prices at all. Plus, I live in the city where there are no gas stations. I didn't realize it was so expensive. Wow.
