Tax Credit Question Is it true ?

Taxable income is adjusted gross income for most people. You are thinking of gross income. You subtract deductions from gross income to arrive at AGI.

Did I get scammed? [on tint and PPF install]

I don’t know about the rest, but the edges on the tint are TERRIBLE. That literally looks the first time I tinted a window as a teenager. On a good thing job, the edges are cut so close to the edge of the window that you almost cannot tell it’s tinted.

    Is AWD worth it?

I'm not a 4WD aficionado... but this does make me wonder if the old terms are even applicable with EVs. The old terms have an implied assumption of a single power source that is distributed through some combination of differentials and transfer cases. With 2, 3, or 4 motor EVs, the software...

    Going from a GV80 Genesis......

I was shopping the GV80 and GV70 before shifting to the EV kick. I love those two cars, and had centered on the GV70 because of its size. I did not want the bigger GV80 since we already have a Palisade for a ICE people hauler. Although I have a Model Y, I am waiting to see what the Electrified...

    10-50 outlet for charging

You are in an odd no man's land... Your outlet is rated for 50A, but it is on a 45A breaker. So, you do not know if the wiring is rated for 45A or 50A. And Tesla does not make an adapter rated for 40A (thought they down-rate the performance of the 14-50 and 6-50 plugs as if they were on a 40A...

    Is homelink actually $350?! (yes)

I read it a while ago - it was the license fee Chamberlain charged API developers for myQ access. I'll see if I can find the Google again.

    Is homelink actually $350?! (yes)

It is $1/month for Chamberlain's myQ API license. Tesla is charging us $3/month. Those bastages.

    New tires before lease end

Ha, this is brilliant. I often cannot wait for the OE set of tires to wear out so I can buy my favorites. I really want to ditch the Continentals on my Y, but I cannot bring myself to trash nearly new tires that I own.

Model S Tempest wheel covers on Model Y?

They are only $35 on the Tesla website. I would buy one just to evaluate. The financial risk is pretty low. If you like it, get the other 3.

Help with buying Model Y new(2023) vs old

Depending on the age, I would lean slightly toward the used if had all the right goodies. FSD is not worth it. But EAP is. The basic auto pilot lane keep assist is terrible. But, that subtle little automatic lane change improvement in EAP brings the LKA up to the norms of every other car on the...

Model Y - Initial Impressions - Delights, surprises, disappointments and concerns

Yes, of course. It is a comedic response to a few posts advocating that safety features make us poorer drivers.

Model Y - Initial Impressions - Delights, surprises, disappointments and concerns

We should all be perfect drivers and eschew safety features, lest we fall from perfection.

    New tires before lease end

What does your lease say about tires? I would start there. Then, there are several decent options under $200 USD, including a Kumho and Yokohama.

    Model Y Window Issues

Are you mechanically inclined enough that you could just buy the window regulator part yourself and replace it? That project is annoying, but not really that difficult.
  16. exxxviii

    Is homelink actually $350?! (yes)

That is the price that includes Service Center installation. Tesla does not offer it without installation. But, if you get a used one, you can easily install it yourself now. Or, if you have a Chamberlain or Liftmaster myQ garage door opener, the native app is integrated with the Model Y. That...

    Is AWD worth it?

Or a Tesla. You need a Leaf.
  18. exxxviii

    Is AWD worth it?

What you said. AWD acceleration is other worldly. And the handling is superior in wet conditions. (Handling is pretty similar in dry.) I have yet to spin or chirp my wheels in any acceleration scenario. Though, I have not done it in wet yet.

Model Y - Initial Impressions - Delights, surprises, disappointments and concerns

The point is not about adjusting mirrors. Mine are great. The thing that blind spot does is cover you when you make a mistake - when there is a lot going on in traffic and you simply miss the car that is next to you. That is when blind spot prevents you from an accident. Not in normal times...

    Frunk rough movement

Mine is very smooth top to bottom. It is mechanically very simple. You can see the hinges and could spot a rough point. Also, I have had bad lifters in a car, and one of those could be the culprit.

Tax Credit Question Is it true ?

It’s true for the vast number of Americans. If someone does not understand the difference between liability or bill or credit or deduction, then they need a simple picture.
  22. exxxviii

Tax Credit Question Is it true ?

A lot of folks mix up the difference between a tax liability and tax refund/bill. The simple answer is that if have an adjusted gross income (this is your income after your deductions are all subtracted) of around $56K, then you will have a tax liability of around $7,500 USD and would therefore...

No. When you push the release button on the J1772, it causes the car to unlock from the adapter. To disconnect, you press and release the J1772 button, then remove.

    Automatic Turn Signal

It is probably both. What is significant is that when you change lanes into a turn lane, most times it will keep the blinker flashing until you complete a bigger turn, versus turning off the signals when you are in the lane like normal lane changes.

    Automatic Turn Signal

I’ve been noticing this too. Same as with a dedicated right turn lane. I bet it is reading the turn arrows.

Model Y and MyQ garage door opener

When you install the HomeLink module, you get the icon. If you buy a used one, you can self install now. The $350 price includes the module plus installation. myQ is great too. I have both setup in my car. myQ is definitely cooler and in keeping with the tech of the car. The subscription is...

    MY charging rates?

I’m in the other camp. I love the mi/hr charge rate expression, because it gives me the exact context I want for driving, especially when I am in a situation with constrained charging time and upcoming drives. (And I am an EE so everything about power and electricity is second nature to me.)

    Pricing strategy for 2023?

There is a new economic antinomy surfacing throughout these posts. On one hand, we have objective fact that sales have risen to records through Q4. Need Help/Advice - First 38 Days With MYLR - Terrible Experience

This totally sucks. I hope you do get it resolved soon and have a trouble-free future with the car. It really is great. But this ties into some advice a Tesla friend gave me when I was looking at various options out there, particularly Fisker. He said one of the major considerations is where...

    Tesla Frunk Open/Close Issues

Yes. Got it. Love it. The Hansshow installation is relatively easy. You really cannot make a mistake. The hardest part is getting your hands into the tight spaces to replace the struts. After that, it is a snap.

    Charging outlet

This is probably the best all-around answer. Then you can keep the mobile connector in the car for when you might need it on the road.
  36. exxxviii

    Charging outlet

I had a typo above comment. I wrote that the Tesla Wall Charger limits to 32A. That is incorrect. I meant to write the mobile charger limits to 32A on a NEMA 14-50 circuit. The wall charger will charge to the normal 80% limit of the circuit it is on.
  37. exxxviii

    Charging outlet

No. That is totally independent. The breaker should be sized to the circuit. A NEMA 14-50 is intended to be connected to a 50A breaker - that is the NEC standard. There is no harm in putting a smaller breaker on the circuit. But future stuff might throw the breaker if another device it is...
  38. exxxviii

    Charging outlet

I would have the electrician wire the circuit to a typical spec with a 50A breaker. The Tesla mobile charger will take care of itself and limit to 32A. But if you buy anyone else mobile or wall charger and plug in a 14-50, it would attempt to charge at 40A, which would be problematic with a 40A...

Model Y - Initial Impressions - Delights, surprises, disappointments and concerns

Heartily agree. I would actually downgrade lane departure and blind spot warnings as "not present." The reason is that LKA barely ever nudges my car back in the lane. And blind spot lacks sufficient natural situational awareness alerts to provide any value. I have been trying to test most of...

People parking next to me while charging

I did not know this about Tesla Superchargers. Though, I have not used one yet. So I learned something today. But it also begs the question: how much difference does it really make? A Model Y does not charge at its fastest rate for very long. So, if two cars are on the a shared station but are...

Front and Rear End parking assist

Tesla said they will implement the park assist feature through the cameras. But they did not give a timeline. Their website says it will be coming in all cars sold without the ultrasonic sensors, so your 2023 is in.

Only 12A on NEMA 10-30 outlet

A Hubbell or Bryant outlet is $30. If you are recommending that someone throw the beaker and remove the original outlet for inspection... just skip the inspection step, discard the 30 YO outlet, replace it with a new $30 outlet. It is literally the same effort with a higher probability of a...

Cracked roof using roof rack w/ cargo box

The first response answered the question… the J-hook is meant to contact a metal plate under the glass and should never put pressure on the glass. So, if it was not positioned correctly or it moved, then the hook would crack the glass. Odds are high the post was not in the correct location and...

Only 12A on NEMA 10-30 outlet

The temperature that matters is the moment that the charger kicks the error. Did you unplug and check it then? If you checked it a few hours after charging at a reduced rate, that would not tell you much. Regardless, it really should be almost no different from outside temperature. So, the...

    Acceleration boost thoughts

The MYLR is already at or under 4 seconds with Acceleration Boost. Here's a dirty little Tesla secret... The LR is closer to the Performance acceleration than Tesla publishes. Their MYLR 0-60 includes rollout (about 0.3 seconds) while their published time for the MYP does not include rollout...

    Tesla and MyQ

I got the Chamberlain with the camera and all the myQ stuff built in. The app works great.
