Circuit Breaker trips while charging my Model Y

I know and agree. I meant the app for the wall connector. But good clarification.

Am I Being Quoted Too High For My Wall Connector Installation?

I don't think many residential meters are demand meters.

Circuit Breaker trips while charging my Model Y

Reconfigure the wall connector to be on a 50A circuit (charge at 40A). You do this through the mobile app. If the electrician installed a 50A breaker, the odds are pretty high that the wiring is only capable of supporting a 50A circuit. But, you will have to get you electrician to confirm...

Circuit Breaker trips while charging my Model Y

What size and type (GFCI or regular) of circuit breaker is installed (can you post a picture)? What was the current of the charger when the circuit breaker blew?
  5. exxxviii

48 amp setup for level 2 charger. Does this look correct?

Nope. That is maximum 40A Level 2 charging. Odds are that you would need new wiring if you wanted to upgrade from a 50A to a 60A circuit. But the great news is that it is a short PVC run, so it would be super easy to pull new wire in that.

21 Model YP slower than M3 w/ AB?

All things being equal, the two cars (MYP vs. M3LR+AB) are pretty close to the same 0-60. Car & Driver timed the MYP at 3.6 seconds. They clocked the M3LR at 4.1 seconds. So, if you deduct another 0.5 seconds, that equals the MYP. It is super hard to judge based on feel, other than a clock...

Am I Being Quoted Too High For My Wall Connector Installation?

$600 range is similar in my area I know of for 60A hardwire installations within the garage.

Circuit Breaker trips while charging my Model Y

TL;DR from all above to 2 questions we need answered... What size and type of circuit breaker is installed (can you post a picture)? What was the current of the charger when the circuit breaker blew? It could be as simple as the wall charger was not commissioned correctly.

Are you paying for premium connectivity?

Yes, you will need separate subscriptions to any of the streaming services you want to use. (FYI, Spotify's free version will not work - you need a live subscription for that too.)

    Standard Autopilot Newbie questions

That's called Rainbow Road. You enable it in the Treasure Chest section of the entertainment app.

Are you paying for premium connectivity?

No. They license Google Maps for presentation but use other tools for navigation routing and traffic data.

    MY Eating Tires

Yes, I commented on that exact point above. The MY is heavy relative to similarly sized cars, but not unusually heavy in an absolute sense. The context of this thread is that it eats tires. Several associated weight with accelerated wear. Other sporty cars that weigh the same or more than the...

Are you paying for premium connectivity?

Not to hijack the thread, but in what ways? I am thinking about a Lyriq for a future car in the stable. One of the things that gives me heartburn is their Super Cruise subscription on top of an OnStar subscription. (It is difficult to get a straight answer on a Cadillac forum, since there is a...

    MY Eating Tires

Likewise, try what I said, and you will know what I am talking about. In the grand scheme of things, a 4,500 lbs. car is not that heavy. There are tons of them (pun intended) to compare to that do not have regen. Most of the sporty mid- and full-size sedans are similar.
  16. exxxviii

    MY Eating Tires

Teslas are heavy relative to similarly sized ICE cars. But they are not necessarily heavy in an absolute sense. And they are the lightest EVs in the wild (for their sizes). My Model Y Long Range is almost 200 lbs. lighter than my last BMW sedan. That car didn't feel heavy and it didn't eat...

Are you paying for premium connectivity?

INRIX get's its real-time data from about everything, including: 500 million consumer and fleet vehicles, mobile devices, mobile apps, parking lot operators, mobile carriers and smart meters, all in real-time, traffic signal timing, etc. They are almost ubiquitous. The wild card is if Tesla...

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

Yes, in general, think of 10% to 20% as an empty tank and do not go below unless there are no other options. An ICE is very much the same way, just with different thresholds. But it is also super critical to remember that taking a car to 1% is an order of magnitude different from taking it to...

Are you paying for premium connectivity?

Google Maps for presentation Mapbox for routing INRIX (or maybe now in-house) for traffic data

Are you paying for premium connectivity?

Tesla mapping gets traffic data for routing always. It is not dependent on the Premium Connectivity subscription. The subscription gets you the visualization.

    Tesla moving To 48V System

Generally easier power management & distribution. Smaller fuses, lighter and more flexible wiring, simpler components... Decades ago, components began drawing a lot more power - amplifiers, onboard computers, HVAC, plug-in accessories. It is really hard to support these with normal fuses and...

    MY Eating Tires

Electric cars don't eat tires. Their drivers do. All that marvelous torque is just too tempting to resist, and every rocket launch probably costs you 10¢ in electricity and 50¢ in shortened tire life. A friend of mine has a Rivian R1S. I asked him what the acceleration was like. He said "I...

What Sadist Picked Out The Interior Lighting? Fixes?

Here's a close-up picture what mine looks like. It is the one I referenced in my post above. I left it on for about 10 minutes. It gets hot, but not nearly hot enough to melt anything.

Went to order a Lyric, Long lead time - switched to model Y

I put the $100 reservation for a Lyriq and Blazer last year. I really love the Lyriq's looks, but lack of HUD and digital key really killed the buzz for the 2024, so I am likely to pull out. The earliest model I would likely want is a 2025, assuming they get Super Cruise, HUD, surround view, and...

    Tesla moving To 48V System

Finally. Tesla is leading the world to improve everything about the car. (And ditto above - I remember reading about the 48V dream in the early 90s at least.) Legacy carmakers suck.

Back up or pull-in to 1 car garage for 2023 MY without USS?

Honestly, parking distance sensors are pretty much useless in my garage. They go ape and provide almost no value, because everything in the garage is a couple feet away. If the Tesla had a geofenced option to disable parking distance at my house, I would do it. I park with mirrors, eyes, and...

    Standard Autopilot Newbie questions

Autosteer/Auto Acceleration/Auto Braking are a few things unrelated that should not be lumped together. A lot of these are safety or convenience features unrelated to automated driving. Standard ADAP is just Traffic Aware Cruise Control + Lane Centering. This is Basic Autopilot. So from the...

simple question: Any front camera view when parking? [No]

To save you another post, a couple other key features Tesla is missing are rear cross traffic and pedestrian warning. And blind spot is essential non-functional. Those are table stakes features on just about every other car on the market now. My hunch is that the new HW4 platform will patch a...

    basic autopilot: a bit disappointed

One poster above probably nailed it... Tesla is the Gold Standard, but they want you to pay more gold for that standard. When they originally defined the Basic Autopilot feature set, it was the leader. But since then, other carmakers have packaged auto parking and auto lane change in their top...

    basic autopilot: a bit disappointed

It was probably poorly worded. I meant to say that the other four subjective criteria are fluff by comparison to the one criteria about actual performance and capabilities. Those four reflect CR's particular bias toward their preferred user interaction experience, while the one performance...

    basic autopilot: a bit disappointed

You didn't read it... CR did a review with only one criteria for the actual performance of the system. The other four criteria are CR's subjective ranking of how much they liked the systems. Thing like driver engagement, ease of use, safe to use, and unresponsive driver. The problem with their...

    basic autopilot: a bit disappointed

None of these things have happened with my Model Y; therefore your comments are just relevant to you and not reflective of the Basic Autopilot as a whole. Not really, but it is important to recognize that forums have a very heavy negative bias, so we do not have a good sense of prevelance of...

    basic autopilot: a bit disappointed

In what ways? I know a couple disadvantages, but those differences alone do not make AP "pretty below average." It really only lacks 1 feature missing from others. But that is offset by other Basic AP strengths.
  42. exxxviii

simple question: Any front camera view when parking? [No]

This is one of the major Tesla gaps. They do not have a 3D view like nearly every other car on the planet now. (That was a big surprise to me too, given Tesla's focus on their "Vision" and its advanced imaging. It never occurred to me that they wouldn't have such a common stable stakes feature.)
  43. exxxviii

Are you paying for premium connectivity?

Yes, I subscribed. It is a premium car, and I enjoy the premium features like native Spotify streaming, satellite view, and live traffic visualization. This is among the cheapest connected service subscription of any car on the market, so it did not seem like much. (It could be a lot worse - GM...

Discussion: Model 3 and Y price drop Jan 2023 / April 2023 / Oct 2023 and All other Pricing Speculation going forward

    Noises during software update

These things rattle and hum any time they are active doing stuff with the HV battery switched on. Charging is really active with sounds also. Mine makes a lot of noise doing software updates too. (And it turns on the headlights.)

    Phantom braking without self-driving features?

Yes, basic AP includes 1-5. (Though to be fair, 1 & 2 are separate features unrelated to AP.) EAP adds 6 some of 8, and maybe 7, not sure about overtake. FSD adds ability to fully navigate almost every road.

Is Discount Tire warranty worth the cost?

What’s your personal experience patching and replacing tires over your lifetime? I have only had 1 tire destroyed in at least 20 years. So if I spent an extra $300 every time I bought a set of tires, I would have thrown away thousands of dollars. For me, the odds of coming out positive with a...

MY 2024/2025 Refresh - Project Juniper?

My current 2022 Model Y Long Range is my stepping stone toward a car that I love. (I just like my MY.) One of my long term condenders is the Model S, since that at least has a few things I miss, like the forward instrumentation, SiriusXM, and rear seat climate controls. I am waiting to see what...
