    Model 3 Road Noise

Do you mean that the brand and model of the tire more quiet than other tire brands? Did you change from a larger wheel size at the same time? Can you be more specific? It's going to be a rather significant decision for me with wheels and tires. Thank you!

    Model 3 Road Noise

I haven't made a final sound reduction conclusion yet is because I've eliminated virtually all the noise I possibly could. But now there's only a noise/vibration in the entire car that I can't seem to be able to do anything about and I've tried just about everything. The vibration is very small...

    Uncomfortable driver seat?

I pulled the back panel off and inserted a narrow piece of foam from the highest point to the lumbar support. It works really well and isn't difficult to do. There are good videos out there on how to pull the headrests and remove the back panel.

Bridgestone Potenza Sport AS 235/35R-20" vs 245/35R-20" for M3 perf.

Are you certain that the 255/35 size will fit properly? I'm also considering the Hancook Ion AS. I wonder if they would be similarly narrow?

Road Noise; Reducing the Model 3 road noise, primarily from tires and louder on rough highway asphalt

I'm assuming the question is directed for me? I've made many YouTube Videos, mostly about wind noises. You can search for my channel using my full name. I have not made a comprehensive sound reduction video yet, sorry. The reason that I haven't made a final sound reduction video yet is because...

Road Noise; Reducing the Model 3 road noise, primarily from tires and louder on rough highway asphalt

Did you change only the front side windows from single to double glass?

White interior stained. Is it possible to order an oem seat cover?

If you purchased the entire seat, including the metal frame, you should be able to unplug the stock seat and replace the entire seat assembly. I'm assuming the new seat comes with everything. If you just bought the cushions, you can swap. However the top cushion includes the side impact...

    Low tread vibration and noise

Yes, I think it's common for road noise to increase as the tires wear. My stock tires 22 M3P 20" P Z are loud on rough pavement and getting louder with time and miles. Tire rack recommended AS tires as well and claimed they'd be quieter than my summer performance tires.

Has anyone tried lowering the seats in the Model Y?

This thread is very important to me. I've redesigned my own seats in my model 3. But a consequence is my seat height is higher than stock. But the Model 3 does not have pedestals. I can afford to go up in height in the 3 just a few inches, where I would not be able to do so in the Y. I also...

Bridgestone Potenza Sport AS 235/35R-20" vs 245/35R-20" for M3 perf.

What tires did you end up buying and how are they? Especially with respect to tire noise?

Constant vibration - cannot pin down

The vibration I feel isn't from underneath the road. It's not that type. It's the rough asphalt and you can actually see it coming and predict the noise. It's the tires interfacing with the rough pavement at the surface. The "vibration" isn't periodic at all, it's more constant, like a constant...

Tire Rotation [recommendations on where to get tires rotated?]

"Well, are you talkin' about what it is you know or just repeating what it was you heard" __ Grace Slick I love the quote and her early singing.

Tire Rotation [recommendations on where to get tires rotated?]

What type of rotation? Front to back or crisscross?

Rumbling noise with balanced wheels and normal alignment

This is an interesting thread to me. I have a 22 M3P with the OEM performance wheel and tire set. On rougher asphalt, the tires are quite noisy to me. And along with the noise is a vibration that I can feel throughout the car. When I lower the tire pressure I do get a reduction in this...

    Tein EnduraPro Plus - Review

They sound like great shocks at any price... since there were practically no others out there. I read a report on Koni red and it sounded disappointing. At least with Tein you've reported a quite noticeable improvement in ride quality over OEM Tesla shocks. I figure the clunking might not be a...

    Koni Dampers coming soon

Looking forward to your report when you have all four installed. So far the Koni don't seem any better than the Tein, and have some of the same issues, and perhaps more. Hopefully Koni Yellow adjustable are better?

Road Noise; Reducing the Model 3 road noise, primarily from tires and louder on rough highway asphalt

Thanks for your help. I will proceed with caution. And I have a question for you. This isn't my first rodeo. I've installed many shocks in many vehicles since the 1960's. I installed high performance Koni's in a sports car I drove in the early 1980's for "street" racing. I also installed...

Road Noise; Reducing the Model 3 road noise, primarily from tires and louder on rough highway asphalt

I did use your approach and it proved very easy and very helpful. I made some changes based largely upon the results from these tests. I happened to have a portable speaker system of very high quality and good strong power. I placed it at various locations, and went inside the car. Thanks...

Road Noise; Reducing the Model 3 road noise, primarily from tires and louder on rough highway asphalt

This is a very thorough review of these $600 shocks here on this very forum. Some additionally use spring changes, many do not. You don't have to for street applications and stock height. I do not plan on spring changes. Just the $600 shocks. Lots of positives all over, including here...

Road Noise; Reducing the Model 3 road noise, primarily from tires and louder on rough highway asphalt

I plan to use the same material, essentially the same manner. However after reading specifications. I need some of the 4" thick Bass Block. Same materials/design, It's just much thicker. I need that to make any real impact in noise down close to 100 hz. The remaining noise, which I think is...

I regret my Model Y purchase because of seat comfort and seating position problems

That's coincidental. My longest trip has been between FL and NC as well! I went mostly I 95 to the Durham area. And I live on the west coast of FL in Crystal River. You are "lucky" that the seats are good for you. Sadly, I had to rebuild mine and that was a lot of exploration and work! I...

I regret my Model Y purchase because of seat comfort and seating position problems

This is what I think. Just being larger won't necessarily mean we don't like the seats. Like in your case, you say they are "very comfortable" (is that on a multi hour drive in the driver's seat?). I measured the width of the seat bottom towards the rear, near the upper seat back. There's not...

I regret my Model Y purchase because of seat comfort and seating position problems

There is an entire thread on this subject here in teslamotorsclub where one poster talks about installing some plastic material. I'll have to search for it again. But basically they are inserting a piece of material between the springs and the bottom of the seat foam. This will raise the entire...

Road Noise; Reducing the Model 3 road noise, primarily from tires and louder on rough highway asphalt

I believe I've significantly reduced all noise so I am at a pause in this work, also I'm waiting for a shipment of more and more specific airborne sound blocking materials... I've reduced all noise... except for the "tire vibration" on rough asphalt that move throughout the vehicle at around 100...

Road Noise; Reducing the Model 3 road noise, primarily from tires and louder on rough highway asphalt

Is the foam cover inside the cabin dry space? How thick of it? I measured approximately 100 hz tires noise. It's very difficult to dampen. Different tires should help. I'm still trying various ideas.

Road Noise; Reducing the Model 3 road noise, primarily from tires and louder on rough highway asphalt

Yes, very good. I've seen that video before but a very good reminder. I may be buying some of the absorbing materials for behind the plastic wheel well arch liners at some point. It has to be special made for being outdoors and getting wet. I recently bought quite a bit of that noise absorbing...

Constant vibration - cannot pin down

I have a 22 Model 3P. I have vibrations on rough asphalt. The vibration transfers through the car and is bothersome. I run the tall wheeled tires 41-42 psi. They do "feel hard" to me. These performance tires don't have a lot of sidewall. Do you think there would be much change if I drop the...

Road Noise; Reducing the Model 3 road noise, primarily from tires and louder on rough highway asphalt

Update: 2 November 2023 I may have hit a wall or what economists call, "the law of diminishing returns". I have cut virtually all noise out of the cabin! ... until ... I'm on very rough asphalt and there are weak but present vibrations come through the entire car. I don't know the frequency...

Road Noise; Reducing the Model 3 road noise, primarily from tires and louder on rough highway asphalt

Some pictures. Sorry I can't find better right now. One is the rear seat with the sound dampers, looks like black patches. The other is the left rear wheel well before I added my stuff but you can see the factory work. Looks like I didn't take many pictures of this project. I'll make a video to...

Road Noise; Reducing the Model 3 road noise, primarily from tires and louder on rough highway asphalt

I installed one airborne sound absorbing felt mat, as pictured, to the glass ceiling above my head, by putting it between the aftermarket screen and the glass. I had to make custom clips. The test drive I got a subjective but noticeable improvement. Much less annoying pulsating mood too high...

Road Noise; Reducing the Model 3 road noise, primarily from tires and louder on rough highway asphalt

Update 30 Oct 2023 More sound reduction progress! I did finish both rocker panels. I removed them one at a time and added sound dampening sticky back pieces everywhere that I could that would not show to the outside. (I've been using a quality material called damplifier pro by second skin. I...

Road Noise; Reducing the Model 3 road noise, primarily from tires and louder on rough highway asphalt

Update: 29 October, 2023 I dampened the driver's side rocker panel How to remove the rocker panel plastic cover: https://forum.fixyourtesla.com/node/219 I think I had read someplace, and can't recall where, that the “rocker panel” area may be a major source of tire noise getting into the...

Road Noise; Reducing the Model 3 road noise, primarily from tires and louder on rough highway asphalt

I found this YouTube video. I start the video right where he shows what he did for that horizontal section. I still haven't gone back in there to decide what / if I'll do more about that part. But this guy in the video applied sound dampening materials all the way entirely across all horizontal...

The Model 3 inner build and structure exposed!

Exposing and removing the entire body off of a Model 3. These guys take a Tesla Model 3 completely apart. This gives a lot of insight. You can see what's underneath the skin. You can trace how sound likely travels, and more. This it's a great help troubleshooting problems, chasing boat and...

Road Noise; Reducing the Model 3 road noise, primarily from tires and louder on rough highway asphalt

I'll have a closer look at that panel. When I was in the trunk, I looked over that panel. It is very soft, like a flimsy plastic. I figured they did that to transmit sound intentionally. The subwoofer and it's amplifier are in that trunk. They are located behind the right rear wheel well and...

Road Noise; Reducing the Model 3 road noise, primarily from tires and louder on rough highway asphalt

Thanks again for that input. Today I took the rear bench lower out of the car. I applied Second Skin Damplifier Pro to anything that vibrated when I rapped it, which was most everything. Clearly the factory knew as well that it would be a noise source, they added an acoustic absorber to the...

Road Noise; Reducing the Model 3 road noise, primarily from tires and louder on rough highway asphalt

I did quite a bit of research on this and the research continues. Thank you for your inputs. In my case, it's all already installed. I have no regrets. It has reduced the road noise and that was my goal, and that's why I share. I do not want to change the OEM performance tires that came with...

Road Noise; Reducing the Model 3 road noise, primarily from tires and louder on rough highway asphalt

This is a good input. Thank you. I will remove my rear bench lower, I've done it a few times before, and add sound dampening and sound absorption there. It should make some improvement. When you drove around without the lower rear bench, did you have the rear upper seat backs in the upright and...

Road Noise; Reducing the Model 3 road noise, primarily from tires and louder on rough highway asphalt

Here you go, pictures. The rubber lining the outermost door edge is what I added. Please note, that although I subjectively feel it reduced road noise. I doubt it can ever be truly eliminated. I've read more about noise transmission from outside to inside. The most important factor is to seal as...

Road Noise; Reducing the Model 3 road noise, primarily from tires and louder on rough highway asphalt

Tesla Road noise; some apparent progress! Note: I have a 2022 Tesla Model 3 Performance. Your car might have different factory build details and different places that resonate and different places that "leak" noise into the cabin. I've been dealing with both wind and road noise. It's not as...

My first long full day road trip experience

Yes, the wind noise around the top of the driver's window is annoying and difficult to reduce. I've made an entire series of YouTube videos on that subject. I've made really good progress. Two significant challenges: Half doors and curved windows against a flat body/rubber seal. I wonder if the...
