Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yeah, still remember their Superbowl commercial. If you look at what the actual message was, beside all the Will Ferrel and Norway stuff, it was basically: we will have good electric cars in the future. That is really telling, I mean you can go to investors for example and try to raise money for...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

But since neither charging or "lack of servicability" are actual problems, who cares if they are "talked about"? Does Tesla have a demand problem? Not the last time I checked.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Google "closing cross". A lot of buyers and sellers put in a type of order called "market on close" which is not a limit order but a market order. As the regular trading stops these orders are matched in a way where buyers and sellers find each other and a price equilibrium results.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Will it really be the end though. Germany is the economic motor of the EU. Is it really possible to imagine VAG, Mercedes, BMW, Audi going out of business? "Too big to fail"?
  5. Johan

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

The counter argument to this is that people will need and want ars and Tesla can't grow fast enough to supply all the world's hunger for new cars even if they grow 50% year after year. And in that reality VAG and many other auto makers will survive the transition.

According to their own Q4 and full year 2020 update their automotive gross margin varied between 22,5% to 27,7% percent during 2020, with Q4 coming in at 24,1%. Also, thanks for the great comparison @petit_bateau. I agree that a "small" difference in gross margin is what makes or breaks both...

In other news I heard a guy in the grocery store say the Model X was too big for his garage. When Mitsubishi comes out with the MiEV v 2. it will be the beginning of the end for Tesla.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

The internet says 60.6% in 2018. Let's aim for 60% of people with driver's licenses driving Teslas in 2030.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Might well be (partly) true, but due to the dealer model they can fudge their sales numbers by placing cars in lots... but they can't do it indefinately. Since it seems VW is trying to copy cat Tesla in every way possible - latest evidence being "Power Day" on March 15th (an obvious rip off of...

Mars and Off Planet Colonization - General Possibilities Discussion

Here's hoping for more progress on Boron-fueled Dense Plasma Fusion in order to have working reactor just in time for Mars colonization. Then we could both do industrial level smelting on Mars while warming up the atmostphere (and in parallell hopefully some gradual terraforming of the atmosphere).

All though @UnknownSoldier 's post is a bit of tongue in cheek his point stands. Remember that the brokers sell the level 2 order book (that is all the buy and sell orders, including "stop losses" and other type of contigent orders) data to hegde funds and market makers. They can buy the order...

Good suggestion but are there platforms that allow such type orders on options?

    Super Bulls Only

I like this. The "Model 50^3" for modelling TSLA market cap. Pushes the right buttons for me.
  16. Johan

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Agreed. I imagine that over time (multi year perspective) we will see continued peaks and valleys with regard to the valuation of TSLA, but over time the amplitude of these swings will be reduced, and the net move will be increasing valuation of course. With every such swing some shorts will...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Thanks, great video. My biggest takeaways: I liked his (over)simplified model of basically saying: Tesla makes products built around batteries: Car, PowerWalls and Megapack (and in addition Solar but let's keep that out of the way). Their revenue per kWh of product is around $600 per kWh of...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

So for the TA people: Is this a proper "triple bottom" and reversal now? First a downtrend, three bottoms and now bigly up? Or should the bottoms have been more on the same level?

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Nice! So you mean we may see TSLA going green for the day? :p
  20. Johan

100 dollaridoos up in one day??? That'd be something.
  21. Johan

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Too quick? Not enough volume? What would you look for in a "real" reversal?
  22. Johan

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Oh definately. Can clearly remember him talking about ankles and scaphoid fractures after he went skiing and some girl fell in the parking lot? Also @OrthoSurg, how is your "buy high sell low" friend doing after getting every single vertebrae from C1 to his sacrum crushed?

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Wow nice price action so far today. A thought that always strikes me at times like this, which is slightly irritating: A drop from $900 to $600 is a 33% drop. To go from $600 back up to $900 is a 50% rise.

Prediction: Coal has fallen. Nuclear is next then Oil.

I read the article you linked. It doesn't anywhere say that, or how, there is a non-finite supply of oil. It does say though: "Historically speaking, the oil market was partly shielded from competitive forces by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), a cartel of oil-producing...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yeah... no. A 6-7% gap up is in no way uncommon for TSLA. It's par for the course, just like a 30-40% drop over a month or two that just happened. Welcome to the world of TSLA.
  28. Johan

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Probably just an oversight, an honest mistake. Could happen to the best of us. It's not like they usually cover TSLA when it's down either.
  29. Johan

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Troy's estimate is around 30%. I don't think they've ever dislcosed this in their quarterly filings.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

These are hugely big news. Rolling ut FSD beta to a wider audience and Elon casually saying v 9 will probably be out next month - wow. To those of us who actaully understand what this will mean in the longer run, with regard to valuation, the big question is how long will it take for the market...

It's not so much the yield in it self but what an increase is signaling with regard to the economy as a whole and projected growth. Or so they say.

Will be interesting to see Ihor Dusaniwsky's post-game analysis of how the short interest in TSLA developed during this drop and now potential recovery. Could some of the old "high conviction short crowd" be so stupid as to double down again during this drop? Thus loading the spring for another...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yes! You seem to be sticking to your "buy low sell high" methodology! Good job.
  37. Johan

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Why do you say that? What would be indicative of a capitulation in your opinion? Are you thinking technical indicators, or a certain price? IMO it's very hard to judge because few large cap stocks have had the kind of price explosion that TSLA has had during 2020.
  38. Johan

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Wow this is interesting. This must be capitulation, NASDAQ below 12500 points (was above 14000 less than a month ago), TSLA is being hit harder than most. Likely what we see now, as always, are retail investors "late to the party", in other words hedge funds and big players saw this coming (and...

Yes! I sometimes do a quick check of my shortlist of stocks that I have programmed in the stock app on my iPhone, and see the headlines the app point me to. Almost never click on them, but just reading them tells me how our system always somehow feeds us bogus FUD when the stock price is down...

  43. Johan

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Let's hope TSLA doesn't mimick Starship too much: Go up, then flat on its belly, then down again... Edit: and then explode.

SpaceX SN10 Prototype Explodes After Touchdown

    YES! Beautiful landing.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Due to some unexpected liquidity issues I had to sell some TSLA today. Managed to sell at exactly $700. Not happy with that price point overall but considering today's action very happy.
  46. Johan

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

So let me get this right: Tesla has had supreme success with their technology and batteries and due to this an unprecedented increase in market cap, enabling them to raise billions easily. And now we find out that many others want to piggyback on their success but that it's mostly all talk and...

Bitcoin, Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Discussion Thread

I'm not @jhm but if he means that Tesla's AI (Dojo) could somehow find a more clever or effective way of mining BTC then... no. At least that would be the most significant discovery in cryptography in the last 1-2 decades. Secure hash functions are designed to destroy all statistical...
