    4 year MOT - Fail!

I've got a quote from 31st Jan p/n 1044636-00D @ £95.83. I've seen some price discrepancies between different SCs before and haven't been able to explain them, but maybe the price has increased. I think I'll put a service request in now and see what I get back...

    4 year MOT - Fail!

Looks like an apology is in order. I wasn't aware Cleevely were offering those pads, but I am now! Another learning day and I'll amend my previous posts to withdraw my disparaging remarks! Sorry

    4 year MOT - Fail!

Both front lower control arms on the Model 3/Y are prone to the rubber bushes tearing or delaminating. There's a lot of force going through these bushes and the range of movement they have to deal with is part of the issue. If you only use your car in town or on good quality roads, or you drive...

    Creaking noise (control arm again!)

Just for reference, we pay the equivalent of CA$230 for a compliance link in the UK and CA$320 for a lateral link. That's not including 20% sales tax, but a quick Google suggests that's only 5% where you are, so that makes the gap even bigger! Part numbers are exactly the same and they probably...

    4 year MOT - Fail!

Where are you getting those prices from? Rear pads for a M3P are £310 a set of 4, fronts are £166. Show me where you can buy all 4 for £85 please! ETA: source provided (below) - thank you!

    4 year MOT - Fail!

It's fine getting discs skimmed but if they are that bad and you put the same pads back in which are worn unevenly, you'll get the same problems again before long. You need to either get the pads sanded off so you can re-bed them on the skimmed discs, or if the pads are really bad you're better...

    Creaking noise (control arm again!)

Ok so it's both sets of lower links they've quoted for but it still doesn't make sense. Why is one comp link $375 and the other $410? Just realised also this is Canadian $... As with brakes there are aftermarket parts available which are much cheaper than Tesla's if you want to save money. I...

    Brakes and brake service

I'm in UK but over here we can buy the discs and pads from regular motor factors. They're Brembo but you could use pattern parts as they're nothing special.
  9. Dangerous Fish

    Creaking noise (control arm again!)

$1700 is way too much for the parts you've listed. Please post the actual estimate with part numbers and itemised costs.

    Brakes and brake service

Depending on the model, you may be able to buy non-Tesla parts. Some are Tesla-specific currently, such as front discs and rear pads on the Model 3 Performance. Even if you have to buy the Tesla parts, they're just brakes so nothing special is needed to replace them.
  11. Dangerous Fish

    Creaking noise (control arm again!)

3k is a lot to replace a pair of links. What's the breakdown of the estimate?
  12. Dangerous Fish

    4 year MOT - Fail!

Brake corrosion issues are not uncommon and it's mainly die to owners not using the brakes enough and not keeping an eye on the state of them. Once corrosion sets in if it's not cleaned off it only gets worse and then you're in for a complete set of new discs and pads. Preventative maintenance...

    UNLIMITED RANGE ?

It may have unlimited range itself, but the person pedalling it won't and So their 'battery' still needs to be filled with more energy in order to keep going. ;)

    Tesery Wheels

They do, but people want "cheap" and don't care where it comes from or what the quality might be like. The market for properly engineered, high quality, fully manufactured in UK/EU/US product is very small and most consumers don't know the difference until they find out the hard way.

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

I think the whole story is probably bunkum designed to stir things up even more and sway some fence-sitters to side with UKR. As said above, 1 or 2 small nukes or even a larger EMP device going off in low earth orbit isn't going to disrupt Starlink much and would end up damaging or destroying...

Power steering has gone and its going to cost me to get it to Tesla Service...

This situation is a lot simpler than some are making out. If your power steering fails and you feel you cannot safely control the vehicle, just pull over and get the car recovered. On the other hand, if you feel you can safely drive it to a SC to get it fixed then do that. There are other...

    MYLR all season tyres

Just using a narrower rim won't gain much range at all. The difference between a 20x8.5 Tesla Turbine and 20x9 Uberturbine is 1.2Kg per corner. You'd save a lot more weight buying a much lighter aftermarket wheel, but even then the weight saving alone wouldn't help range as much as using an...

The maximum tyre width recommended for an 8" wide rim is 245mm. If you have 255s fitted to an 8" rim, it's not going to be a death trap, but it's certainly outside the specification of the car and tyre manufacturer, which means there could be implications as to how the car behaves on the road...

    Summer tires are less noisy?

Very much depends on the tyre construction and tread design. Not really possible to generalise, but if you took an average from every tyre out there then you'd probably find summer tyres win.

Winter Tyre - running different sizes

I suppose there is also the potential issue that MY doesn't have an 18" option from the factory so you could have been into the usual warranty/insurance liability question marks. Winter Tyre - running different sizes

There is no issue fitting 18" wheels. I think that little myth has come about from the fact that you can't fit the 18" aeros to the Performance models. You could fit Model 3 18" wheels to your Y as it doesn't have Performance calipers. ETA: Oh I now see I mentioned that back in November. Shame...

I have plenty of anecdotes regarding insurance companies and how they like to make things up just so they can put a note on your policy and charge an 'admin fee'. Even just speaking to more than one agent in the same insurer will often give you a completely different response. A lot of the time...

Where do you get the idea that all Tesla tyres are stretched? And that online tyre supplier is talking rubbish. Russia/Ukraine conflict

Late last year the new Ukrainian sea drone "Cossack Mamai" was announced. I'm not saying this is what was definitely used in the Ivanovets attack, but it's supposedly capable of a top speed approaching 70mph so would be faster than anything else in the Black Sea. 5 of those simultaneously...

    Speed Camera Model X

Yes, absolutely, as I originally said only some fixed cameras show up,mainly GATSOs that have been in place a long time. None of the M25/M3 HADECS show up. But if you plot a route along the entire M4 you'll see some average speed sections show up. It's next to useless as it stands.

psi reading on my tires is not accurate, car says they are 37-38 psi, I connected my compressor to it and it says 33.5 psi

I've got a $100 (without battery) Milwaukee compressor and it's a good 2-3PSI out most of the time. The gauge on a compressor is just a guide. You use it to put air in just above the pressure you want and then use a separate quality gauge to set the pressure.
  44. Dangerous Fish

psi reading on my tires is not accurate, car says they are 37-38 psi, I connected my compressor to it and it says 33.5 psi

TPMS sensors are on the whole consistent and pretty accurate. Within +/- 1PSI at most from a lot of testing I've done. So as above trust the car's numbers if you don't have a decent gauge or have done some sort of calibration or comparison against a known good guage.
