The problem seems to be getting worse unfortunately. It would seem that even level 3 techs can't make the change anymore. Wtf is Tesla doing? Are they keeping it tightly controlled so they can start monthly subscription to matrix headlights or something?

I don't think I've ever been so f'in annoyed with any vehicle I've owned when it comes to configuring a simple thing like a headlight.

Only thing I can think of is making a linbus translator. Old lin commands to new lin commands

So I had a level 3 tech at my place this past weekend and he was willing to make the change but it was grayed out. Can you ask your friend if he did anything different to change that setting?

It requires a custom wiring harness and replacement of left inner light with a model y light. Otherwise just the configuration will make your left reverse light into your fog and leave you with just one back up light (the right one)

I have gotten a mobile tech to enable my rear fog light and I have had 3 software updates since and it's still there. Just saying. Not sure if and when it might disappear. So far so good.

So I had a lead tech try to do this for me and it was grayed out. Unable to change that one setting. I should have linbus sniffing equipment this week. If all else fails I'll be making a "translator"

So if a mobile tech comes out and they don't have access they will have to do a engineer request. I overheard a tech at a Supercharger. Basically it's a session that will allow the engineers to change the given config. Not sure how easy this is.

I Agree, access does have something to do with it. I wanted to let everyone know what to try given the opportunity.

I believe you goto: Dashboard > infortainment > read config > goto "headlamps" and change that value. Save and apply. I watched alot of YouTube videos and looked through alot of service manuals to make a procedure for a software I don't have.

I agree, a software company as big as Tesla would definitely follow this sort of model. Let's be real tesla doesn't make cars. They make software that runs on their 4 wheel hardware.

What I mean is if the gateway says matrix headlights then when they actually use the matrix headlights to their full ability will it just work or will it fail because they weren't originally on the car.

When you do the light show does it spell out tesla? I'm trying to get an understanding of how software involved this retrofit is? Trying to figure out if it basically turns it into a car that had matrix from the factory. Because of that is the case then future adaptive software pushes may work...

Tesla keeps saying that the matrix lights will not work with the older car. Why is it so difficult to do this when we are willing to pay for the lights and do the install and pay for the time it takes to config. We know it's doable.
