    M3 LR RWD UK!

Some LR RWDs have been posted on Tesla's UK inventory.

Model Y ordered in UK, does it come with home charging kit?

No speculation. UK cars come with a UMC granny charger. They also come with a separate type 2 cable.

    Windscreen crack

I’d go through insurance as that is a more difficult repair that could lead to the crack extended as they inject the resin and needing a new screen. If it were a simpler repair then not going through insurance would make sense.

[UK] 2023 Orders to Delivery for M3 and MY and personal shipping related questions

It is very much based on supply/demand but typically the best deals are at the end of the quarter, the next being September.

[UK] 2023 Orders to Delivery for M3 and MY and personal shipping related questions

Tesla don’t register until the day before delivery so that vehicle is possibly a fallen through sale and might not be the correct registration for your vehicle.

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Very impressive. What's the max peak rate you generate? I only got 35.6 kWh today.

    Sky/Sky Go

Unlikely to get that working. Not sure if the latest version works for a browser, it used to be an app, but it will be heavily on DRM with plug-ins etc.

    Windscreen replacement what to check?

They are following the Tesla workshop procedure to do a camera alignment then a drive to finish the calibration/test. They took mine on an 8 mile drive, including a section of dual carriageway.

    June 23 UK Car Sales

Non structural M3/MY batteries are a different level of complexity compared to a Leaf or MS. There may be some specialists in the future that offer refurb units but taking out a couple of failed cells within the middle of a battery pack isn't really an option.

    June 23 UK Car Sales

Replacing a structural pack isn’t the issue. Repairing it is, so the only option is to replace it for £15k+. When a car is 8 years old and only worth <£20k that‘s a big risk. If an ICE fails you obtain a new piston, crank, camshaft etc and fix it without the cost of an entire new engine.

    Windscreen replacement what to check?

Not really. They will perform a recalibration so everything should be working - give TACC / auto steer a test if you want to be sure.

    June 23 UK Car Sales

M3 sold just under 2,000 in June - doesn't make it to the top 10 list these days as most people prefer SUVs to saloons. The numbers are available every month, just not that interesting from a Tesla point of view, especially the first month of a quarter when hardly any are sold because they are...

    Crazy low residuals?

Yes. Been that way for at least a couple of years. Salary sacrifice schemes are hugely popular because of the tax saving they offer. https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/car-industry-news/2022/05/31/majority-of-plug-in-cars-registered-to-businesses

Model Y rear wheel arch scratch repair - what are your opinions on these vastly different quotes?

Agreed. Whatever you tried with the trim piece wouldn't go unnoticed on inspection at the end of the lease, which then draws attention to the area for very close inspection of the paint.

How likely is keyless theft 2023

I force quit the Tesla app when I'm not going to be using the vehicle. Mainly to stop battery drain on my phone but it also stops the BLE communication with the car. Even then, P2D is useful to protect the vehicle being driven off on those occasions when you quickly pop inside to grab something...

How likely is keyless theft 2023

They would have to state in the policy first that this functionality is required. Not aware of any insurance company insisting on this yet. Their issue with Tesla seems to be parts availability and cost of repair rather than theft of the vehicle.

How likely is keyless theft 2023

Tesla filed for FCC approval some years ago with UWB components so I guess they will move to them at some point. Land Rover was forced to move to UWB because their old solution was actively being exploited, the same as some of the other manufacturers. Tesla's bluetooth implementation has a...

How likely is keyless theft 2023

Agreed. It's very difficult to relay the bluetooth implementation that Tesla has, it's not like the relay attacks on other vehicles operating at 433 MHz. The biggest risk seems to a M3/Y allowing doors to be unlocked when the phone isn't that near - but even then hopefully the car will detect...

How likely is keyless theft 2023

It shouldn't wake until you actual pull the door handle, and it shouldn't even do that unless you are within a few meters as it is using low energy bluetooth with multiple bluetooth receivers to calculate where the phone is and its distance from the vehicle. Waking up for other reasons are...

Model Y rear wheel arch scratch repair - what are your opinions on these vastly different quotes?

Is that panel steel or aluminium as the Model Y isn’t all Aluminium? If steel it doesn’t need to be ChipsAway, just a good recommended smart repairer in your area. Most won’t try can pull dents from Aluminium.
  23. M

    Crazy low residuals?

Even non structural packs (LR and P) are all glued together and would not be easy to repair.
  24. M

    Crazy low residuals?

The difference is an ICE engine or transmission can 9 times out of 10 be repaired for a fraction of the cost for an entire new unit. That’s not really the case with a Tesla battery pack that is glued together and almost impossible to repair.
  25. M

    Crazy low residuals?

I’d be happy to buy a 3 year old Tesla, not sure about an 8 year old one though.

Seems to be a wider BEV problem. Audi E-Tron and Jaguar iPace is in similar, if not worse, position.

Rumour: Model 3/Y to lose stalks in 2023 model year

You don't need steer by wire for variable ratio steering. BMW, Honda, Toyota etc all have had these systems since 2000 onwards. But they are complex, not the Tesla way. Tesla want steering by wire to remove components from the vehicle, to make it cheaper and easier to build, not to enhance the...

Announced but not available for another year. That has an independent back up power supply as a fail safe, plus redundant ECUs.

Infiniti had it years ago, although it has a mechanical fail-safe.

    Powerwalls - I just don't get it.

It relies on the owner setting up a Solcast account and linking the API. It also doesn’t use the data to alter charging, just there for the owner to see and make their own adjustment.

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

They definitely allow transfer of warranty to a new owner but that's really for the scenario of a buying a house with it already installed. It will be interesting what Js1977 finds out.

    Tesla charger home surge issue

There are different matt-e products but for this one, looking at the installation manual it self resets after 3 mins which wouldn't be possible if it tripped the RCBO. All the isolation is performed with the contactor. "In the event the SP-EVCP unit detects a fault condition on the monitored...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Yes, that's one of the differences/advantages of Powerwall vs GivEnergy. Your two Powerwalls charge in parallel, whereas the single GivEnergy hybrid inverter only provides 3.3 kW charge to the batteries which essentially charge in series. Obviously I could install a second inverter with the...

    Tesla charger home surge issue

My understanding is it's the electronics on the left hand side that does the voltage monitoring (as well as whole house current monitoring via the clamp) and controls the contactor in the middle. The device on the right is just a standard Type A RCBO, so unless the electronics are also purposely...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I'm similar after a full month - £18.75 electricity (compared to £135 the month before) and gas cheaper as I moved some hot water heating to the immersion heater. The diminishing returns of a second battery just don't stack up though. Maybe my £5 of actual electricity usage goes down to £2 -...

    My Airport Parking Experience

overheat protection is only operational for 12 hours after you leave the vehicle - it is there to protect contents within the vehicle, not the vehicle itself. Sentry mode will consume several % per day as the car is always awake so it really isn't worth enabling if you are away for a week or...

Charging using 32amp Commando and mobile charger

Yes. I’m around 0.3 kW but I have a server running which consumes around 90 W. 50 odd Philips hue bulbs all sucking 0.3 W each when off also contribute. 4 Ring cameras, 4 access points, two fridges and normal things in standby such as TV, amp, oven, microwave etc.
  42. M

    Tesla charger home surge issue

There is a perspex cover protecting all the terminals. I think the angle of the photo makes it look like there is a gap under the RCBO.
  43. M

    Tesla charger home surge issue

In this case I don't think it is PEN fault detection as it is the RCBO that is tripping which indicates either over current, earth leakage over 30 mA or a faulty RCBO.

    Alarm being triggered by weather?

Damn, hope it goes through under warranty then. If there is no visible damage that caused it then it is likely a manufacturing defect in the glass or installation error that caused it to crack, so it should be covered.
  46. M

    Alarm being triggered by weather?

Your insurance glass cover should cover this. Others have been successful with roof glass replacements minus the £70-£100 typical excess.
  47. M

    Alarm being triggered by weather?

That's not good, although might not be related. Any impact damage you can see from the outside?

    windscreen chip - worth replacing?

I recently had to wait 3.5 weeks after a failed chip repair for my M3. But the wait seemed to be more related to availability of a calibration slot rather than the glass itself.
