    Autonomous Car Progress

Yeah, this is really something that I think is woefully behind and not being considered enough (unless it's all happening behind the scenes or isn't easily accessibly via public information...) AV folks need to get a consortium together and come to an agreement about V2V communication...

Seeing the world in autopilot, part deux

As usual, thank you @verygreen ! It sucks Tesla feels they need to waste time trying to “protect” things from people like you and in your circle of tinkerers and I would rather they just their time doing something more productive. Hope it doesn’t create an annoying situation for you and others...

Software Update 2018.39 4a3910f (plus other v9.0 early access builds)

Yes Except that there are recent examples where “exponential improvement” was exactly what took place. Thinking specifically of the last few iterations of the game “Go” how it improved... exponentially from one to the next.

Software Update 2018.39 4a3910f (plus other v9.0 early access builds)

Really appreciate all the time you (and others in your circle!) have put into this! Dumb question, but are you even getting the option to enable the feature within the map app once you start driving? Reading various threads and the release notes makes it seem like even if you enable the...

Mildly disappointed there STILL isn’t a model for the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile :-/

    You’re a goddamned tease! I’m assuming you’re running v9 already?!?! :-)

Seeing the world in autopilot, part deux

Amazing! I can’t imagine how much work you all have put into this, but for dolts like me who are super interested in this stuff, you and those like you are a primary source of my Tesla excitement. Thank you!!

Time to crack her open and get inside the network for AP2

Nice! Those are some strange looking RJ-45 connectors! Seeing the location on your profile seems to indicate that you're quite a distance from a local Tesla Service Center and have probably been left on your own for support, so what are your plans? What are you trying/hoping to accomplish?

    Software Update 2018.36.2

A Model 3 owner posted this same thing on /r/teslamotors and while it's explicit in the M3 manual that the car must be periodically connected to WiFi to get the latest maps, it sounds like you are... but perhaps your car isn't connecting properly? Or perhaps it just needs another day or two to...

    Software Update 2018.36.x

Somebody else on an older version said they aren’t seeing the stall info either, so likely an issue on the “server side” rather than firmware / car side.

    Software Update 2018.36.2

As I mentioned in the 3 forum, our AP2 MCU1 AutoPilot is “different.” I would say it overall feels better, but without any good way or method of supporting it with facts; it’s purely a butt dyno “better/smoother/more confident.” I also wrote about a situation that has now happened 4x when...

    Model 3: Turn Signals... ARGH!

FWIW, my FIAT does 3 blinks with a "quick press" of the turn signal stalk and all the recent German cars I've ever driven are the same. I also find 3 blinks as not really long enough to be "fair" to signal to other drivers, but seems to be an accepted standard.

    Software Update 2018.36.x

2017 MS 100D and just noticed 2 instances where using it on local roads (gasp!) in an intersection (double gasp!) where it would previously cruise through without issue immediately threw up "Apply light force..." with white flashing and beeping, but interestingly, *not* the red hands of death...

Has anyone tried wrapping their silver M3 in a matt paint protection film?

Looks amazing! That’s not LeeBerb’s shop, is it?

Tesla called me to ask if I wanted to order new key fobs

My used FIAT 500e came with only 1 ("laser cut" / switchblade style) key. I was quoted $400 to cut a (1) new key and reprogram it. I was able to talk my local dealer into a lower price, they offered to do it for $225.

2018.34.1 Won't let me launch my car into objects

Again, just curious what everybody has forward collision warning set to? It’s a configurable option on the 3, yes?

2018.34.1 Won't let me launch my car into objects

Try it and find out ;-) Seriously... don’t do that.

Not even a week and I hate this car...

FYI: our 1 year old Model A also lost nearly 5psi this week. Also in northeast(ish) PA. Unless the same gremlins hit us both, it’s just the change in weather.

How does the car randomly brake on the interstate? Without you pressing the brakes? Or are you using TACC or TACC + AutoSteer?

Model X Delivery Experience in PA

Picked up our S a little over a year ago. They were very nice and very accommodating, again, long before “delivery hell,” but spent a lot of time with us and answered all our questions. Good luck! You’ll love it!

    Powerwall Installation Fiasco

Sorry for your frustration, but as somebody who is likely to install a Powerwall at some point and is also debating solar, I’ve known this since I first started kicking the tires years ago and suspect most people in the same boat do too. Not that this is applicable, but imagine the tremendous...

    Model 3: Turn Signals... ARGH!

FWIW, S driver here with a Turo-rented Model 3 and I “got” the 3 turn signal in about an hour or so, so unless I’m unusually coordinated (hint: I’m not) it shouldn’t be THAT finicky to operate if it’s working properly. That plus the AutoPilot engagement (using the right stalk) were features I...

Model S range and interior update imminent?

I’m just super glad we celebrated our MSes 1st birthday last week and managed to enjoy it a full 365 days before the imminent refresh made our car irrelevant!

Safe to sit in the car while Super Charging?

I dunno about that.... when I’m SuperCharging, I can look up from the driver seat and see RIGHT THROUGH THE ROOF TO THE SKY! Since MRIs can see through people, this must be the same thing happening here, no? I also noticed this same phenomenon on the Model 3 we rented. Very odd. Makes me...

    New CPO experience (very BAD!)

You wouldn’t. You’re right. That comment makes no sense. I bought a used FIAT from a California dealer and I’m in PA. I only paid the PA (home state / where the car was going to be registered) taxes on it. No taxes paid to California.

    Sudden acceleration incident in Kitchener!

Too many times have I seen an instance where creep ON is worse: Specifically, the lip of a garage that is just a tad bit too tall for the car to get over on its own via creep, but once you get it over the lip using the accelerator, now you’ve GOT to immediately jump on the brakes or else it...

Firmware 9 in August will start rolling out full self-driving features!!!

I’m just shocked it’s THIS far along. I honestly thought the crickets into September meant that the devs were JUST now starting a new project in source control called v9 and we’d MAYBE see leaks in December. TBF, I know they said v9 to early access folks “in 4 weeks” (end of Aug) and this seems...

    My evolving thoughts on autopilot

Very well written and exactly our experience as well. I feel kinda bad for the folks who are going to try out the 2 week (or whatever) free trial and leave with, “I mean, yeah, I sorta get it, but it’s not that great...” Yes it absolutely is, but it takes time to get used to it. 2 weeks, IMO...

glass roof - production change (July 2018)?

Are we SURE this isn't an artifact of the photograph/photographer and the angle/light that it's being taken? (Yes, I realize the "top" portion of the glass still shows that reddish glow...)

    P3D+ 250 mile range with non-aggressive driving

Thanks for posting! YOu probably know this, but as others have mentioned here and elsewhere, it's speed that kills your range the most. If you had hovered closer to the 65 mph range, you would've probably gotten closer to the 280+ range. The larger wheels are also probably good for another...

    Jaguar I-Pace

Which it totally fine for a car that costs less than $70k+ but makes it a hard pill to swallow for an around-town kinda setup IMO. Again, I'm all for more competition, but it seems like it doesn't quite do "anything" right - it may not go that far, it's not cheap, it's not that big, it's not...

    Model X updated blue color?

No; it was mentioned around here or /r/teslamotors recently that they changed the online build configuration site and tweaked the way the colors are displayed to more accurately reflect the way they look in real life. (Whether or not you agree that they accomplished this is up for debate haha)

    Jaguar I-Pace

As somebody mentioned earlier, I do wonder about service availability? I have a used FIAT 500e that I shipped from CA, full well knowing that it would be VERY difficult to service on the east coast since FIAT/Chrysler explicitly requires mechanics be “certified” to work on any vehicle with an...

    Autopilot dead center

I think, like all groups and generalizations, the majority of motorcycle riders are doing the right thing, want to stay alive, and want to get where they’re going in a timely fashion. Like all groups (and generalizations) there are undoubtedly assclowns in the bunch that can ruin it for...

How long did it take you get used to no dash screen?

After driving an S for a year, we rented a 3 on Turo for a weeklong road trip. It took me less than a mile to “get” the screen. I was admittedly in unfamiliar areas so I was hyper vigilant on my surroundings and making sure not to put a crease on some dudes nice car. I realized during this...

Hard braking with TACC in stop-n-go traffic

You’d laugh if you held these things in your hands. “Mass” is not the word you’d use. (I installed a similar set of aluminum “pedals” on my Subaru’s and they weigh virtually nothing.) In addition, I *don’t* have the aluminum pedals on our S and have experienced the shuddering/juddering, so if...

    Disapointing Delivery Experience

Inexcusable. My wife had an unexpected work emergency pop up moments before we were scheduled to take delivery and had to jump on a conference call. I had already geeked out on all the videos I could watch before we took delivery, so I was mostly comfortable, but the guy still walked me through...

Hard braking with TACC in stop-n-go traffic

The performance pedals are merely aluminum covers (e.g. makeup/lipstick/dressing); they are not meaningfully different in any way, so nothing to do with this juddering. I also don't believe it's necessarily a "problem," in the sense that it may be "by design" (albeit not necessarily good...

Firmware 9 in August will start rolling out full self-driving features!!!

FWIW, we got an update notification yesterday and it was simply our usual timing of getting the "current" large release a few days after the early folks. (Our update yesterday was to 2018.28.5, which appears to being going to a large segment.)
