Car and Driver Model 3 Test - Not Great

You really think you could get away with a single supercharger stop from SF to San Diego? Very unlikely.

Car and Driver Model 3 Test - Not Great

Now you're making up things that no one has said. Extraordinary means just that...not the absolute best, but very much above ordinary. What's ridiculous is to make up statements just because you don't like a comment. And they got 5.1 0-60, not 4.8. Did you even read their review?

Car and Driver Model 3 Test - Not Great

Yes. And I agree with them. The Model 3 drivetrain is not bad, but it's not anything special. I had an Audi S7 and it was a good engine, but not impressive. My P85D, that's impressive. I guess if you've never driven a P model Tesla you could be impressed by a lowly Model 3 drivetrain.

Do you think that car magazines should be impressed with anything less than extraordinary performance???

Car and Driver Model 3 Test - Not Great

I don't disagree that coastal CA is the largest market right now, but Tesla's plans are to have the Model 3 be the car for all of America. As such, you have to take into account that quite a bit of the country outside of California has cold weather for a good part of the year. If you're...

Car and Driver Model 3 Test - Not Great

Appropriately impressed? They gave an objective review of the powertrain. They are impressed by the Model S/X ludicrous mode drivetrain. They seem to be very appropriately unimpressed with the Model 3's powertrain.

And zero indications it won't. When you shoot for records in quantity and you still haven't nailed down the quality part, odds are that the quality ain't gonna shine.

One Day Shutdown of Model S and Model X Production

I certainly wouldn't want to buy a car that was built during a period when quantity, rather than quality, was the focus.

    Concerned About Tesla AEB Effectiveness

I think you're asking in the wrong place. Every accident without a death is lauded as proof that Tesla makes the safest cars in the universe and no questions can be asked about the failures of Tesla's safety systems.

Elon Deletes Tesla and SpaceX Facebook Pages!

Me too. As someone who was victimized by Obama's weaponization of the IRS (which those who now rail against Facebook applauded at the time) I get a chuckle out of the complaints that dumb Facebook posts are somehow a threat to civilization. I think it's also amusing that the people who...

Has anyone convinced an anti-EV person to buy an EV?

I've talked people OUT of an EV...they aren't the right vehicles for everyone and some people get caught up in all the hype/buzz and don't realize that there are lots of downsides to EV ownership. For example, my brother liked our P85D and wanted to buy one for himself. The problem is that he...

Is the dual motor option worth it?

I went from a single to dual motor Tesla...P85 to P85D. The P85 was generally ok, but in the rain the rear would step out almost immediately under anything but very gentle acceleration. With the P85D, it's never a problem. It might be that the 3 won't have the problems of huge, instant torque...

Model S Car Crash Help for After Action Review

Another vote for the wrong tires. Last month I was in Montana and had a Tacoma 4x4. It came with the OEM all season tires and I had a very similar experience to yours, but it was on the freeway. Between Bozeman and Livngton, at the pass, there was maybe an inch of snow on the road and more...

Your Tesla's value just dropped about 4-5k overnight

What are y'all talking about? I've been ensured that one of the great things about being in the cult, I mean, owning a Tesla is that you get OTA updates that keep the car evergreen. I know Musk is an amazing man, but how is he going to get a new MCU in my old Tesla OTA?

    Supercharger Price Increase

You have any documentation on this? And this was part of the problem, as it was sold as being both things...it was free, fast charging for any purpose and it was also sold as being the solution to the problem of being able to use the car for longer trips. They were not positioned as mutually...

    Supercharger Price Increase

As an early Model S purchaser, I am 100% positive that the pitch we heard when considering the first Tesla we bought in 2013 was that superchargers allowed for fast, free charging anytime, not just when traveling. Only after Model S sales started to pick up, and then the Model X was introduced...

    Losing enthusiasm for Model 3

But with the Model 3, you have to pay for your electricity...no free supercharging. So the $250 a month you spend on gas will be replaced by $x you will have to spend on electricity.

    Losing enthusiasm for Model 3

How many miles do you drive in a typical month? The $250 savings estimate seems really high. Just based on the calculator on the Tesla website you'd have to be driving over 3000 miles per month to have a $250 monthly savings (and that's based on an average MPG of 21 for your ICE car, which is...

New P85D owner has questions of other P85D owners

Our P85D has never achieved anywhere near the rated range under any conditions. Closer to 200 miles from a full battery on a perfect day, less with real world conditions. I'm not sure whether acceleration degrades over time/mileage, but seat of the pants says that our P85D is nowhere near as...

    Losing enthusiasm for Model 3

Edmunds currently has a Bolt and a Model 3 in its long term test stable. It's interesting to watch the updates come in, as the Bolt seems to impress them quite a bit on the performance measures while they hate the seats and interior quality. They haven't had the Model 3 very long, but they...

should i wait for the new porsche or i-pace to come out?

No offense taken. I really like what Tesla has done, but I'm not evangelical. When Tesla has the best car in the market again at some point in the future, I'll be more than happy to return to the brand.

should i wait for the new porsche or i-pace to come out?

Lots of assumptions there...one being that Tesla owners are all obsessed with avoiding fossil fuels. Speaking for myself, I couldn't care less whether a company also sells ICE cars. What I care about is value and a car that appeals to me. It's why I bought a Tesla in the first place, in fact...

should i wait for the new porsche or i-pace to come out?

I can only share my current situation, in case it's helpful. We bought a Model S (P85) at a time when Tesla was still a very big unknown (early 2013). Lots of things concerned us, including the reports of drive unit failures, the precarious position of buying a $110,000 car from a company that...

Charging by generator possible, in a pinch?

The generator run time is usually expressed in hours. My generator (again, on propane), runs for about 10 hours at half load on a 20 lb tank of propane. Even if I were to run it for 10 hours, the dang thing would drive me nuts...they are REALLY loud and I go to my cabin to get away from noise...

Charging by generator possible, in a pinch?

It should work. I have a cabin in Montana that is WAY off grid and have a very similar generator (it's a Champion, but same approximate ratings). My generator runs off of propane, which shouldn't change the results, but just something to add in to the mix. It's a SLOW process, and an...

Supercharger wait times as Model 3 numbers increase

I wasn't arguing that it takes less time to use gas stations. I was responding to a comment saying "enjoy the gas stations" and I noted that a gas station stop is very short, less than 5 minutes and gas stations are everywhere. So it's easy to just pull over, without having to make a detour to...

Supercharger wait times as Model 3 numbers increase

I have no problems with gas stations, any more than I have with superchargers. Gas station visits are far shorter in duration, in fact. As for the drive experience, while I like the low end acceleration of the Tesla, I like the way ICE cars operate at higher speeds. As for the statement that...

To be clear, we intend to go back to ICE but have not yet sold our Tesla and bought a replacement. We're waiting for the new Cayenne to be sold in the US and that is the vehicle that will replace our Tesla. Why? Primarily, we are bored with the Telsa's interior and exterior styling. If Tesla...

New competition for Tesla, The Jaguar I-Pace

I'm in total agreement about the minimalist and outdated Tesla interiors. I like the Jag's interior. The problem I have with the Jaguar is that they are infamous for having the worst electrical systems on the planet (hyperbole, of course, but not by much). I'm sure Lucas is not in charge of...

Supercharger wait times as Model 3 numbers increase

I've been a Tesla owner since 2013 and have worried about the same thing (supercharger traffic). We used BR Electric and were really happy with the quality of the work. He's not cheap but he's fair and his work is of the highest quality. Lots of not so good electricians out there who will do a 14-50 installation cheap but they create more problems than they solve.
