    Should I buy a 2016 Tesla X

The range on trips won't be that bad when you have free supercharging. I tow with my X90D and even when NOT towing the range is not more than 180 miles anyway on a FULL charge... So you get used to stopping every 2 hours for 15 minutes. FUSC isn't limited to just one transfer, that's the limit...

    2023 HW4 Model X Front Door Issues

If you own the Y... Stay with it. There isn't that much size difference, but you get 500 more electric motors in things that don't NEED to be overcomplicated. You have actual door handles, that's a good thing. I mean the thing has powered headrests! Then there's the ridiculous rear doors and...

    Extension cord for supercharger help

Definitely have not lost interest! I've recently moved to CT though (the state not a cybertruk lol) and have been renovating the house. I'm actually about to finish picking up another trailer full of items to bring North, using my RV. Asking the Tesla to pull a 20' long cargo trailer is a bit...

Error messages abound, parking brake stuck, and a 5000 lawn ornament. HELP!

If it has to do with the parking brake motors, unplug them and see if the errors resolve soon after. The sensor in the motors relies on a 5 volt reference that is also the reference source for the entire communication bus, so if that is shorted to ground then the communication bus fails. You...

Pyro fuse replacement - now low coolant?

Just like the title asks... I've got two 2016 X that both had the pyro message not too long ago, and now both have had low coolant alerts come up. So the question before I bring them in and submit to the service center trying to profiteer off me... Does anyone have the instructions for the pyro...

FSD AND FUSC Transfer Offer this Quarter?

Exactly my thought after playing with a loaner that had FSD. The EAP / highway autopilot is what they got right, and the only place where it should be allowed anyway. Trying to let the car decide what lane to be in or navigate directions / merges / lane changes.... No thanks. It's too unstable...

    2013 Dead MCU1 to MCU2 Retrofit From 2018 Donor

Jack it up, take the back wheels off and unscrew the motors from the parking calipers. Then turn the gear clockwise (tighten) to release the parking brakes. That's pretty much your only option.

Model X door no longer open fully automatically without USS (ultra-sonic sensors)?

That will be about 3 days after the FSD actually can drive you from home to your work without any user intervention. So the 33rd of Nochanceuary

Interview with Tesla Supercharger Team member

I came into the city to drop someone off at a doctor, so I had some time to kill. Those two locations were far enough away that I didn't want to go far though - the 47th street probably would have been closer but the cross-town traffic was.... the usual. ;) 75th st was just right out. I wasn't...

FSD AND FUSC Transfer Offer this Quarter?

Both are equally as trustworthy though, compared to a written document with the force of contract law. If they won't put the statement in writing for you (and the app chat DOES NOT COUNT).... Then buyer beware.

FSD AND FUSC Transfer Offer this Quarter?

I wouldn't trust them AT ALL to not still strip the FUSC even as their delivery windows are unmet... This is how desperate they are to get the truly transferable UNLIMITED supercharging off the market, and turn it into free-but-not-unlimited-because-we-decide-what-seems-reasonable supercharging.

Interview with Tesla Supercharger Team member

Yes I did submit the check-in on Plugshare, not that I expect anyone to reply to that. The Plugshare location was going to be a Level 2 J1772, which wouldn't be DCFC at all - but I'd have been OK with that if it was! I do think that DCFC locations should have both the NACS plug as well as the...

Interview with Tesla Supercharger Team member

It's so cute that you think that is even possible. The congestion charge plan for NYC is badly conceived and will be a complete shitshow for the general public, but because they have WRITTEN INTO THE LAW that they MUST make $1B per year from it, they aren't backing off ever. But if there is...

    RIP to my battery

So to clarify - this is the range you were getting on your car 1 day before the errors... Or when that car was brand new? (I don't see a signature line with a car description so it's hard to know)

    RIP to my battery

You can tell that by looking at the pack part number on the sticker behind the passenger tire. The last character is the revision.

Does Chill mode increase efficiency? Surprisingly, Tesla says yes

The best comment was during an interview with one of these geniuses.... He said this to the reporter: "There are supporters for a flat earth all around the globe." Uhm.... Say that again, slower this time. ;)

Interview with Tesla Supercharger Team member

Tax incentives are USUALLY laden with so much fine print as to make usage extremely difficult, but hey... They sound good in a 20 second press conference sound bite on the 11pm news. I was recently looking for an actual charger in Manhattan, and expected that I would have to pay for the parking...

    RIP to my battery

Mine (two model X) have this year for the warranty, while the two model S are both out of warranty. The battery and drive units have not been the thing that has cost me the most money on ANY of them. The sheer overcomplexity of the design on the X and the locked-down nature of service and openly...

    RIP to my battery

I've heard two different answers on the replacement batteries - they will give you whatever is laying around that you had originally in size, BUT might only deliver the same degraded range you are getting now... Or they will give you a brand new pack and software limit it to whatever the car had...

    I retrofit MCU2, IC2, Tuner2, and FSD Computer into my HW2.0 Car

I was able to get my gateway updated at a service center to allow for the folding second row AND the MCU2 XM radio module (both self-installed from parts I got myself) BUT they said that nothing could be done without a service request to even allow them to open the computer via their system. So...

$4859 Price Adjustment or Free Unlimited Super

I haven't seen that in the posted documents... BUT that fits with my suspicions - they are looking for something (even SC05 for the current owner) that they have the ability to take away at any time. They could theoretically do that with SC01 as well, but then there would probably be legal...

$4859 Price Adjustment or Free Unlimited Super

I'm still suspicious that their documents only refer to the new charging as "Free supercharging" and all the old charging as "Free UNLIMITED supercharging" which is a distinct difference. That makes me think they are taking away the unlimited, and now you will have a certain amount of free...

I have not had the opportunity yet to test the cable, it is in Florida and I'm in CT at the moment - but I will hopefully be loading up the cable and more of my tools soon to continue my move. Definitely would like to get this resolved soon, towing a trailer with the Tesla is painful at chargers.

    Model X: Average Wh/mile Tracker

that's a good datapoint for long duration usage at a lot of conditions, 46k miles has to be (per the average driver) over 3 years of use. That bears up what I've been seeing, the X is a portable barn that is hurt by the wind on the highway.

FSD AND FUSC Transfer Offer this Quarter?

Where have you read that? The telematics are entirely cellular, the only use of wifi is for software updates unless you don't have any wifi points saved and never go to a supercharger - then after a certain amount of time it will download it over the cellular instead. Source: My own cars...

I know that my 2016 X still uses the USS for parking assist measurements (and I've checked them with a tape measure and the numbers are pretty close!) so if the programmers have decided to stop using something that is INSTALLED ALREADY for the doors... Then they are morons. The advantage of...

FSD AND FUSC Transfer Offer this Quarter?

I don't like how the documents and the fine print all refer to the new car's charging as "Free Supercharging" but not Free UNLIMITED Supercharging. I feel like they are playing word games and it will be capped usage.

Glad to hear that you got it working! Does the heated wheel show up in the climate control or the climate section of the app for you now? I haven't added the heated wheel to mine yet but I'd like to... But not if I have to faff around with a service center to get them to activate it.

Instead of looking to collect personal information, why not be open about the available coverage limitations on the website? For example, AFTER putting in all the "required" information, your website coughs up that you refuse to cover 2016 vehicles. I didn't even get to a point of seeing if...

    Model X Supercharging curves, 2022

That’s very nice. I am very jealous. Right now, I am towing a 6 x 12 open trailer with a 4 x 6 enclosed sitting on top of it. Not a lot of stuff inside the enclosed trailer and at 70 mph I’m doing 890 wh/mi. It sucks. Although, the charging speed is decent. I have seen 170 and it’s still...

    Model X Supercharging curves, 2022

What kind of wh/mi are you seeing on your X at 80mph? I'm pretty sure there is something going on with mine, I have two 2016 X90D that are only a couple months apart (otherwise identical) and mine is pushing 500 wh/mi at 80 when NOT towing. Actual range on a full charge is somewhere around 150...

Changes in Tesla Service - No More Loaner for Out of Warranty Cars

I have been alternatively told this, as well as handed uber credits AND loaners on multiple occasions. It seems to be based entirely on the size of the location and whether the service center employee feels like lying to the customer or being a decent human that day.

What should my ideal charge percentage be?

Ok - I stand corrected. Color me confused on the specific chemistry of the batteries, I thought there were only the two. I can’t edit my previous post. But what I am referring to are the model three and Y vehicles which have the suggestion to charge to 100% I believe weekly because of that...

    2023 HW4 Model X Front Door Issues

Something IS going to break - it will be inside the door and the service center will be happy to "upgrade" your car and fix the failed door module for the low cost of $1000 each. Because that is PRECISELY what happened to me. There was never a need for automation in the doors. THEY ARE DOORS...

Sorry I didn't report back earlier. So the part that I got from Ebay was perfect, it DOES have the heated steering wheel ECU. I also discovered that yes the buttons CAN be replaced separately (with a bit of fiddling and unscrewing) and the two button pads and the horn are all linked together...

What should my ideal charge percentage be?

The issue with the NMC batteries is the voltage curve they present to the BMS. It is nearly flat. THESE NUMBERS ARE FAKE EXAMPLES ONLY: For an NCA battery, it could be like an alkaline in a battery tester, where there is a linear progression. 1.6v is full, 1.5v is like 80%, 1.3v 50%, 1.2v is...

    Front half shaft replacement instructions

Good for you for standing up to their nonsense. That is the ONLY way that we have to (eventually) force them to get better - we have to be smarter than they are and call them on their bullshipt at every single experience of it. The continual lies from the service center people is far too much to...

2023.12.1 Updated Service Menu and tools for legacy cars

I haven't had a BMS error, but I'm not sure that actually would isolate the BMS from the battery anyway. The fireman's loop SHOULD open the contactors and keep the power in the battery and anything that is directly connected (like the BMS?) but my knowledge on that is limited. I do know that...

    Front half shaft replacement instructions

Now that is interesting, b/c I had an argument with my SC about this, b/c they were "researching" if they had ever been replaced on my car previous to my ownership, and if they HAD - then I would have been subject to paying full freight instead of the TSB b/c in their estimation the TSB can only...

    Extension cord for supercharger help

That's what I believe as well, but I haven't had a chance to mess around with it.
