    EV Charging etiquette

I think Tesla asks that you call their support number and inform them -- and perhaps they would call a tow truck if the local law allowed for it (which depends a lot on the state/municipality), and either way -- keep track of the issue to see if it becomes a long term problem. As far as going...

OK - the GPS based suspention is starting to annoy me

Agreed, there should be an easy way to see already saved locations. That said, drive around your neighborhood with the suspension screen on the main screen, you will see exactly when it switches. Click the x there.

    Firmware 6.1

So if for some reason you just did not want an update (eg: an update that removes a feature), is there no way to just refuse the update?

Collision avoidance in 6.1, do not get any warning...

I have received many warnings from the Collision Avoidance. Mostly from when the TACC was misbehaving and stopping short, but I also received one when I was accelerating hard towards a slow moving car in order to pass a slightly-less-slow-moving car in the lane to the right of me, as far as I...

Software Update 6.1 Trip Energy Prediction

Your website is also obviously much more useful for planning road trips than just hopping in the car and hoping to figure out as you go. I think there is value in a good app.

Adaptive Cruise Control (experience post FW v6.1)

It didn't maintain speed in this scenario, it reduced speed (I believe only using regen braking, not friction brakes). I agree that maintaining for a second or two is fine, but slowing down is not. Also, as far as a turn goes ... The car knows the position of the steering wheel.
  7. R

What do you think the ACTUAL improvement of torque sleep will be for the P85D?

I doubt city driving will be improved much if at all. Highway cruise is where the difference will appear. That said, Highway cruise is where the difference is needed. If you drive reasonably around the city, range really is fine. I highly doubt anyone needs more city range in one day than...

Urge Tesla to provide an option for enhanced Frunk lid

Plenty of other cars have frunks, but they are mostly sportscars (Porsche, Mclaren, Ferrari, Lambo, etc). My experience with those cars is that it is not nearly as difficult to close the frunk lid in those cars as it is on the Tesla. My normal way of closing my Porsche frunk was either at the...

My 2 day old P85D suddenly died in the middle of an intersection

There are some sections of some highways that have no shoulders for miles ... Yeah, it is a problem to break down in any car, but being stuck because of open contactors is a pretty dumb reason.

    P85D efficiency up after 6.1

For P85D, It is fantasy miles. Perhaps if you set cruise control at 45MPH you could achieve it.
  11. R

    Firmware 6.1

I got a notification to my phone for 6.1 update, but had to go to the car to actually start the update (which took 1 hour and 45 minutes). (This was back on Saturday, just posting it again since there are questions about if there was a notice)

P85D "Unable to Charge" at Supercharger

Honestly, while the QA problems on my car were all minor issues -- there were several, and they all should have been very obvious at the factory. I doubt there was any QA done on my car at all. I am assuming that because of the craziness that happened around the seat issue, QA just did not...

Adaptive Cruise Control (experience post FW v6.1)

I have never received a "cruise not available" message. I am constantly using TACC since the software update.
  14. R

My 2 day old P85D suddenly died in the middle of an intersection

I agree with jkn. It is better to allow customers to at least attempt to put the car in limp-home mode than to force it to be shut down until it is towed. The car may theoretically come to a stop in the middle of an interstate with no shoulder, which could easily be deadly. Yes, fuel cutoff...

Adaptive Cruise Control (experience post FW v6.1)

The pedals move on their own? This is going to start a new stream of fascination.

Adaptive Cruise Control (experience post FW v6.1)

Interestingly, my wife commented on how other than my mentioning "this is not me ... this is all the car", she found it very difficult to tell when I was in TACC and when I was driving myself in MOST scenarios (though there were a few cases where the car was obviously misbehaving).

    Disappointed with sound system...

I paid a little bit more attention today, and while it is showing album art on my live content ... it isn't the album art that is encoded to my flac files. I am surprised that it has art for this content, but it's a pretty reasonable guess, though not the same as what I had. It's clearly...

Adaptive Cruise Control (experience post FW v6.1)

I've had this happen several times where the car in front of me is not slowing down, but just gets out of my way and maintains their speed in the lane to my right. It doesn't happen if they change out of my lane and there is another car still in the range of the Radar in front of me.

    reddish etched spots in paint?

I would think claybar would be wonderful for removing this type of stain. Might want to see if other more experienced detailers have a reason to suggest not to use this.
  20. R

Adaptive Cruise Control (experience post FW v6.1)

Another odd behavior I noticed. On the highway if a car in front of me changes out of my lane, and all of a sudden there is nobody in front of me, the car momentarily slows down before speeding up. This behavior is very unusual and certainly annoys people behind me.

Did anyone order their P85D with the premium interior package?

It seems that Tesla has four very different customer segments: 1) Green types who came from Prius or some older fuel efficient ICE (read: not a luxury car). This group likely focuses heavily on the WH/Mile number, and doesn't really use the high speed, or quick acceleration features very often...

Anyone hearing a short duration hissing noise?

I have heard it many times ... It often comes up as I am coming to a stop or have just completed a hard turn, even if I haven't used the friction brakes. I have suspected it was a hydraulic pump for the brakes or steering system. I haven't heard the air suspension make any sounds when the car...

Added brake strobe to rear brake strip

I agree with others commenting on how this is annoying and probably makes things less safe rather than more. I'll also note that the police lights used in many parts of the USA now are incredibly bright, colorful, and flashy -- which makes them distracting, blinding, annoying, and dangerous...

Adding TBT Navigation on Non-Tech Cars After Delivery

I have the Tech package, but still end up using Waze 50% of the time. The Tesla system is certainly convenient to use, but it gets the traffic wrong compared to Waze far too often, and just doesn't pick great routes most of the time. The range estimation feature is pretty cool though, and I...

    Disappointed with sound system...

I maintain my music in iTunes on a mac, with 99% stored as Apple Lossless, with album art, and full metadata. I converted the full library to flac using XLD, keeping the same directory structure as the iTunes directory.

Passport 9500ci radar detector - GPS sensor question - windshield interference ?

Yeah, I misread. Most likely yes the nosecone is the best place for that as well, but I'll let others comment who have actually done that install already.

    Supercharger - Plantation, FL

There are hotels that have Destination charging. It sounds like perhaps you are staying in a rental house, though -- perhaps a 240V/50A extension cord and a drier plug is your option? You can certainly make it to Deerfield Beach from Port St Lucie or Fort Drum. Even if Plantation were live...

    Firmware 6.1

I certainly do not want to rub salt in the wounds of those waiting for 6.1, but the TACC updates have made the driving experience 10X better in Miami's bumper-to-bumper snowbird traffic. The backup lines have made parking much easier. Wonderful upgrade.
  29. R

    Disappointed with sound system...

I have a large number of live recordings, which obviously do not have album art in any databases. The album art stored in the flac files are displayed by the Media player.
  30. R

Passport 9500ci radar detector - GPS sensor question - windshield interference ?

There is a metal film in the windshield which will interfere with various radio signals. Most importantly, it will interfere with Radar signals, so your radar detector will be much less sensitive. Most likely you will need to look at a permanently installed detector which has sensors mounted...

Did anyone order their P85D with the premium interior package?

The problem is the difference in leather is almost certainly much more in feeling than look. If you are coming from a Porsche Panamera or Mercedes S class, losing the full leather is probably very noticeable. If you are coming from a Toyota Prius, you probably wouldn't notice the difference...

21" Wheel/Rim Damage (crack and leak) - Options?

To crack a rim, you would have either had to have hit a pothole really hard, or the rim was defective. Did you hit a pothole hard? Was the tire damaged? If it was defective, I would press on tesla to absorb the cost. If it was a road hazard, I would check eBay or the classified section of...

    P85D efficiency up after 6.1

Agreed. I know from my attempt at 70MPH cruise control gave me 366 WH/Mi. But we also know that the torque sleep update is pending, so anyone who keeps on trying to drive at 350WH/Mi or less now seems to be subjecting themselves to torture for no reason. P85D was not built for setting cruise...

Latest Supercharger dots for 2015 and 2016

So because people are not doing a route which is extremely difficult without a supercharger, Tesla will not put a Supercharger? That makes no sense. Under that logic, there was no demand for Electric cars in 2007.
  38. R

    P85D efficiency up after 6.1

I agree completely! I am also averaging about 450WH/Mile and have 1600 miles on the clock. - - - Updated - - - I hardly use the friction brakes at all, and still average 450-ish ... Speed kills range. Like you said though, acceleration doesn't seem to make much of a difference though.

    P85D efficiency up after 6.1

I am seeing no improvement. I am in Miami. I'd tell you about our weather here, but you probably don't really want to know.

Supercharger - DeFuniak Springs, FL (I-10 between Tallahassee & Pensacola)

Unfortunately, while that red dot in-between Lake City and Defuniak is on the "2015" supercharger map, it is not listed as "Coming Soon" ... Will probably be a few months. I've done that drive before in a rental ICE, and it's pretty similar to Alligator Alley ... complete middle of nowhere, and...

Adaptive Cruise Control (experience post FW v6.1)

I found a regression compared to the regular cruise control. Maximum speed of the tacc is 90mph. I don't know the limit of the old cruise control, but I have had it set to at least 95mph.
  42. R

Latest Supercharger dots for 2015 and 2016

The long rumored Jacksonville FL dot now appears. And it's good because this will finally make it possible to drive across the panhandle at a normal/high rate of speed, allowing the entire state as accessible. I hope they don't really take 2 years for it though.

My 2 day old P85D suddenly died in the middle of an intersection

Is it possible Osama hits bad pothole and the shock cause the contactor to open? Is it possible the Contactor was defective and opened on its own? It is worth noting that this type of failure could only happen in an EV because laws require all of these contractors to disconnect the HV battery...

    P85D Software Updates/Autopilot Timing/Range Improvements

From the first day the ordering page was live, the Autopilot feature was listed as something that would be rolled out in several future software updates. One of those updates went out today enabling adaptive cruise control.

Adaptive Cruise Control (experience post FW v6.1)

I tested out the adaptive cruise control on my way to the office today ... Worked fantastic. Came to a stop with traffic, continued on when traffic started moving ... handled people changing lanes in front of me, etc ... The distance setting of "1" is certainly more distance than average...

How successful are you in connecting into Wifi from your Model S

The reason why you can pick up a bunch of wifi signals that your phone or laptop can't is because the car is large enough to have a sensitive antenna. The reason why you can't connect is because the antenna in your base station is probably not as good, so the base station can't hear your car...

    Firmware 6.1

I just realized that there seems to be no way to read the release notes after the first time it shows up. I quickly clicked the X to close the screen. If someone else with a p85d can get more screenshots of the specific things to autopilot and perhaps our D cars that would be great. Would be...
