Hello everyone, I recently became the owner of a 2011 Roadster Sport

The "CAN" is not actually a charger. It's an adapter that allows you to use more powerful chargers such as Tesla's wall charger and mobile charging cables. If you get the CAN EU which is the version used primarily in HK you will also be able to use common Type 2 chargers that can go as high as...

First Post- looking to buy one of these!

CAC is important but the version number is also important. People on this forum like owning all three versions but the higher the version, generally the more money it commands. In 2010 they made versions 2.0 and 2.5. Sport versions also usually bring more money.

I rolled my own Carbon Fibre taillights

I've managed to make a few, but it's quite labor intensive. Not sure how many I'll be able to make. I sold one pair and might have some more in a couple of weeks. I'll add your name to the list (and anybody else) and let you know if/when they're ready. Don't hold your breath. I'm also working on...

    battery cell replacement inside sheet

There's more to it than that. The discharge curve is very different so the capacity measurements won't work. The Model 3 cells also discharge to a much lower voltage in order to get their full ah capacity. I also doubt you could fit 11 sheets of longer cells. I don't want to discourage...

Where Does the Heat Come From?

I find that using the A/C on a hot day has very little impact on range. I think the reason is because when the air is warm enough to need A/C then the losses are offset by significantly less wind resistance. YMMV.

    Roadster Connector Disassembly?

I've taken apart a few of those. The SMC cable is only 12 AWG so if you are trying to install a larger cable it's a bit tricky. Simply drilling out the contacts where the wire is crimped in and re-crimping a larger wire is not considered safe. Neither is soldering. Your best bet is to replace...

    The Wrecked Roadster Registry

Actually it was the Prius that caused that accident. It's funny when that accident happened my sister had a black VW Touareg just like that one, and I had a red Roadster. I sent her that picture and said "Watch your temper!"

What should I do with my 19” tires and wheels?

Indeed that's why a lot of people are buying 19 and 20" wheels from sources other than Tesla.

FS: 18" Aero Wheels and OEM tire set

They were FedEx ground boxes about 25in square. Already sent them to recycling. I still have the labels (pdf copy) and they indicate 95 lbs each from Peoria, AZ to Thetford, VT.

FS: 18" Aero Wheels and OEM tire set

I bought the same package from a different seller about a week ago. From Phoenix to VT it was $230 by FedEx ground using my account with FedEx. I emailed the labels to the seller who packaged them up 2 tires & wheels to a box. Each box weighed 96 pounds.

Any out of state MA-store purchases?

I know of at least 2 CPO cars that were shipped to Dedham to be prepped before being delivered to VT. No sales tax was paid to MA. Unless Tesla's policy has recently changed, which I doubt, then they will deliver to you in NH with no MA sales or use tax.

Reduced price Autopilot & FSD for existing owners announced March 1st

I took delivery of my 3 AWD in September '18 without EAP. Tesla's blog and this thread would suggest I can purchase it now for $2,000. But it still shows up as a $4,000 option on Tesla's web site. How do you get it for $2,000?

    Roadster Squeaks & Rattles

Good idea but unfortunately lots of people have tried it without success. Lubricants, whether dry silicone or otherwise, usually only work for a short time to quiet the hard top. Why I love my Model 3 in cold weather

We live where it snows a lot. The frozen door handles and windows on our 3D have been a little annoying a couple times. The fantastic traction control makes up for it. It's way better than ANY ice vehicle - beats AWD Subaru, Audi. The lack of battery heater is a bit disappointing. We almost...

Yes you can use the same logic for future Model 3 demand after the Y is available, but we're talking about S demand. Model S demand didn't level off until the Model 3 started shipping. I'm pretty sure you see my point. I'm just not sure if you agree with it.

I don't think it would be stuck at 50k if there were no Model 3. A lot of people purchased Ss but would have preferred a smaller, more affordable car. I'm impressed that Model S and X sales are even maintaining 100k with Model 3 available. If Tesla can achieve the same margins with Model 3 that...

What version is your Roadster? The 2.5 has a much stronger HVAC system, both heating and cooling. I've taken a lot of drives at -20F and felt comfortably warm. You have to be sure to engage the recirc button which recycles 80% of the air from the cabin. My feet used to get cold until I insulated...

Just ordered the new Bespoke51 taillights

No. If you have a power socket wrench and you don't count the time getting your tools ready then maybe you can do it in 10 minutes, but I doubt it. That also assumes it's warm enough that you don't have to warm up the rubber plugs with a hair dryer (that alone takes 10 minutes) and you don't...

    Unpredictable acceleration performace

Acceleration is affected by temperature of the battery in addition to insufficient traction. Traction is also affected by temperature and the type of tires you have.

Custom Tesla Roadster 2-Piece Slotted Rotors, NEW batch for 2019

My nearest service center (Watertown, MA) had no problem with them for 2 annual services. They checked and reported the condition of my [non-OEM] pads. It depends on how grumpy the service center wants to be. Or maybe they didn't notice they were aftermarket.

    Reliability concerns

My Roadster has been my daily driver for almost 8 years and 60k+ miles. Since the warranty expired I've had only one minor problem and parts were easy to get. YMMV but I wouldn't hesitate to do it again if I had the chance. I expect to get more than 10 years out of this car.

    Articles re Tesla—Fact or Fiction?

The article describers a pretty typical delivery experience, similar to ours, and surprisingly bad. It amazes me that Tesla can make such fabulous cars and then screw up so bad on things like delivery logistics. The only point I disagree with the author is he states it's not Musk's passion to...

    3.0 Battery Longevity

My guess is that they will make a 56kWh version and a larger version. Using the Model S and X cells would only provide about 56kWh, and they wouldn't fit either. In order to utilize the higher energy density of those cells Tesla is using a wider voltage range, as low as 2.75v. The Roadster can't...
  42. hcsharp

    3.0 Battery Longevity

The BRA specifically states that you get a 56kWh battery. The R80 was almost 80kWh. That was the justification for charging $6k. If they're not charging extra for the BRA then probably the so-called 3.5 pack is only 56kWh.

Roadster carbon fiber door sills back in stock?

I'm building the molds anyway, regardless of how many people want them because I want a set for my own Roadster. The only thing I need now is more time to work on it... I'm not going to have brushed aluminum scuff plates but I will look into paint protection film which I think is a better solution.

    Slight bump(s) while stopped

Sometimes when the air conditioner compressor comes on it makes a noticeable thump that you can feel in the car. Even if you didn't have the AC on in the car the compressor might have started to cool the battery if you were on a long enough trip.

Roadster carbon fiber door sills back in stock?

I've actually already started making molds for the door sills. I also have molds for the tail lights but they are a LOT harder. It's not my day job so it will take me a while.

    Rear Tie Rod ends

You could do that. Not a bad idea, or you could get a grease needle. You don't even have to poke a hole in the rubber boot with the needle. You can slip it under the boot seal on the threaded shaft of the new tie rod end.
