Anyone want to meet up for a grand opening on this one?

Superchargers on the NJ Turnpike (speculation, discussion)

Great news indeed. NJ is competing with CT for most badass charging infrastructure.

    Supercharger- Ashburn, VA

I have a lot more photos I can share later. Other info: 4 of the stalls are general 30m parking, 4 are dedicated to Tesla only. One of the dedicated spots is handicapped. The transformer and supercharger cabinets are installed, along with the circuit breaker and meter. There are two...

Supercharger - Hartford, CT - Leibert Road

This is crazy. What kind of red tape is holding this up? Everyone should flood the mayors office asking whats up.
  5. M

    Supercharger - Meriden, CT

I looked on Teslas map and Meriden is still mossing however they have a proposed site in Hamden still.

    Supercharger - Meriden, CT

Crazy how many Superchargers CT has now.

Supercharger - Hartford, CT - Leibert Road

Ironic that we are waiting for a gas and hydrogen station to open. They should just open the convenience store anyway. It will get plenty of business from people Supercharging.

    Superchargers on NJ Turnpike

In case everyone hadn’t seen the news about that: Electric Vehicle Bill Goes to Gov’s Desk - Insider NJ “ According to the bill, By December 31, 2025, at least 400 DC Fast Chargers shall be available for public use at no fewer than 200 charging locations in the State, (b) at least 75 of the 200...

    100kWh Model Y?

Or I think they could make even longer modules given that it is a slightly longer car (The 3 has 4 really long modules side by side). Or they could have improved the 2170 energy density further and ~100kWh can now fit in a LR pack. I’d bet against stacking because they mentioned the Roadster...

    100kWh Model Y?

Me too. Would trade in my 3 in a hearbeat for a 100kWh Y.

    Supercharger - Reston, VA

Yes, I charge quite frequently there with my Chademo adapter. They don’t actually seem to mind... Another fun fact, the E-Tron SUV promotional material was filmed at their Reston site. I saw them filming it. The background was all photoshopped in.

    Supercharger - Reston, VA

Thanks for your insight, that makes sense that those garages were not built around having that much power readily available. However it seems Tesla has installed inside of garages a lot before. Leesburg, Arlington and the newer National Harbor site are all Urban Supercharger sites in parking...

    Supercharger - Reston, VA

Where did you get the information about the town center?

    Supercharger - Bethel, ME

Since they didn’t have it ready for this Ski season yet I wouldn’t be surprised if this site was back burnered until summer or early fall to capture the next ski season when most cars will be traveling through to Sunday River.

That map is actually missing Darian CT.

2020 findus Superchargers in New England

Again you are simply looking at commonly traveled roads and not population centers. You also want to have Superchargers where people actually live. These are places where people actually travel to and from. Maybe you visit someone in Lewiston and you need to get back to your starting point...

2020 findus Superchargers in New England

It seems weird to me to ignore the 2nd most populated area in the state but cater to out of state visitors to one ski mountain. I’m sure Tesla is probably using trip data to calculate optimal locations but putting a supercharger location (even an Urban) in a population center will drive even...

    Springfield NJ Supercharger Approved!

I am not sure what this means. Can you please elaborate more on this? The most likely setup for this site is two V3 Supercharger cabinets, each serving 4 spots. Both cabinets sharing an 800-1,000 kVA transformer upstream. That’s been pretty standard for the 8 stall locations.

2020 findus Superchargers in New England

Lewiston and Auburn Maine are getting shafted again, probably because of the close proximity to Portland, Augusta and Freeport. However the area has more population than any other area in the state other than Portland. Farmington?? Are you kidding me.

    Supercharger - Fairfield, CT

Unfortunately there was significant ICE’ing on northbound this morning even with the entire parking lot about 10% full. 3 ICE vehicles were blocking Tesla stalls. I got up to 200kW on my LR3 starting at 13%, ambient temp of 32 degrees and 5 minutes of pre-conditioning. I was hoping to see...

    Supercharger - Frederick, MD

This is very common for new sites. Usually you can get a free charge for a few days.
  22. M

    Supercharger - Meriden, CT

Interesting and also disappointing. My hope for V3 was that it would be set up for future models like Cybertruck which could charge at the higher rates for longer even if we can’t with M3 now. It’s most certainly a cost/benefit thing based on the current battery technology, the average site...

    Supercharger - Meriden, CT

Wow, 750kVA is quite small for this site. I hope they have two of those.
  24. M

    Supercharger - Bensalem, PA

I gave a pretty good accounting of my situation there... I’m sure it doesn’t work if you drive a lot each day but it’s totally easily manageable if not.
  25. M

    Supercharger - Bensalem, PA

For what its worth, I live in a condo with no home charging and I am totally fine with an LR 3. My avg daily driving is only like 15 miles though. I plug in at L2 chargers, chadamo at Electrify America or supercharge when I can. Max time spent per week waiting is no more than 1 hour in the dead...

Supercharger - Madison, CA (I-95 NB and SB Rest Areas)

Nope, only the 3 and the newest Raven powertrain Model S/X (March 2019+). The LR 3 can take the full 250 for only a small amount of time at a low state of charge before it tapers off. The Raven S/X can take about 200kW at peak. A full charge on an LR 3 is cut from 60m to 40m and most charges...

Supercharger - Madison, CA (I-95 NB and SB Rest Areas)

I’ve done Maine to VA over 10 times in my 3 and it’s always taken me on the same route, using the Merritt. I’m wondering if the V3 chargers on 95 will actually cause it to route to 95 for at least part of the trip now. I’m sure it’s smart enough to calculate in time savings of staying on the...

Supercharger - Madison, CA (I-95 NB and SB Rest Areas)

I stopped in North Stamford “after hours” on my last trip. I found it extremely hard to find and it had zero options at that time. I also found the angled parking to be bizarre as its not really needed in that tucked away spot. Additionally I think the Merritt has a lot of issues. There is the...

    Yay!!! Great location.

    Supercharger - North Stamford, CT

Clearly I think this was built for travelers on 15 since the actual rest stops on 15 are so tiny. Greenwich is nice as a backup but it is really a joke. I never pull very much power there, and it is constantly ice’ed or banged up and partially out of service in some way.

    Supercharger - Vienna, VA

Does this match with other V3 sites like Fremont Factory and Vegas? Are they all using 430kW cabs and sharing 4 stalls or is this configuration specific to smaller 4 and 8 stall sites.
  32. M

    Supercharger - Vienna, VA

The announcement was pretty clear that they should be 1MW cabinets. Introducing V3 Supercharging “Faster Charging, No More Power Sharing V3 is a completely new architecture for Supercharging. A new 1MW power cabinet with a similar design to our utility-scale productssupports peak rates of up...

    Supercharger - Vienna, VA

I think it would be rather foolish for Tesla to size all of the equipment for 250kW per stall all at once for all the reasons you mention. Not to mention in a lot of cases they will simply be limited by the utilities transformer size.
  34. M

    Supercharger - Vienna, VA

Thanks that is really interesting with the 430kva cabs split between 4 stalls. I think what we are learning is that V3 is a pretty flexible architecture, it seems like they can size the cabs differently and split the power however they want depending on the site.

    Supercharger - Frederick, MD

I’m pretty sure the pedestal shortage is somehow related to them moving production to GF2. Tesla is now making Supercharger V3 and energy products at Gigafactory 2 - Electrek This article from back in may says they plan to open up more production lines for supercharger components later this...

    Supercharger - Vienna, VA

If the site is confirmed to have superchargers when it opens and the site itself is under construction I have no problem with listing the SC as under construction. In this case I am fairly sure the SC will open alongside the store because it is one the main attractions and they made a big deal...

    Supercharger - Leesburg, VA

If transformer size is the limitation than you could still be hurting others even at an Urban site.
  41. M

    Supercharger - Vienna, VA

They have lots of superchargers in paid parking lots unfortunately. I am in Reston and have no charging in Condo so I would probably still use it. Less than an hour of parking is not that much at the metro.
  42. M

    Supercharger - Augusta ME

Technically they can say “Tesla” but mean that they either will have some L2 J1772 or Chademo support with the adapter. The adapter is already known to work with the ChargePoints they put in Kennebunk already so that makes sense. I have the adapter so this is good for about 50kW in a pinch, but...

    Supercharger - Portland, ME

If this site goes online like next week (start of Q4) I am going with the tin hat theory. Free supercharging may be booked as an Opex loss or something where as construction is Capex. Perhaps they want as little operating losses as possible in Q3??
  44. M

    Supercharger - Vienna, VA

LOL - You realize that Fred (Electrek) wrote a post yesterday about one V3 site being under construction. Multiple commenters pointed him to all of the threads ON THIS FORUM showing all of those sites. Then he wrote that article today. Funny my comment never got moderator approval there - It...

    Supercharger - Vienna, VA

For the grand opening we need to come out in force for this one. Will be special with the Giveaway, V3 and the first Charging-Only store.
  46. M

    Supercharger - Vienna, VA

Yes they have quite a few along with Sheetz. I would imagine if this location goes well with a lot of Tesla traffic they will continue to invest in the Charging-Only store model. So once this opens everyone support Wawa!!
  47. M

    Supercharger - Portland, ME

That does make sense that there could be a small delay if they moved production to GF2. All of these sites are also V2 and this is ongoing with V3 now being deployed as well.
  48. M

    Supercharger - Portland, ME

Sites in permit status yes. Sites with active construction typically do not take this long unless there is a specific reason.
  49. M

    Supercharger - Portland, ME

Where is this install stuck? Is it just awaiting the stalls? This is so ridiculous.
  50. M

    Supercharger - Tysons, VA

I’m not really understanding the comment about the Reston town center. What would make the costs higher than every other supercharger site in any garage like Leesburg or National Harbor? I have to think that Boston Properties would want them to install one there in order to attract more people...
