Tesla's 85 kWh rating needs an asterisk (up to 81 kWh, with up to ~77 kWh usable)

So if the original numbers are over-zealous, does that mean the CANbus numbers can be trusted after the electrons settle down? Say, after 5k, 10k, 20k, etc. miles? The reason I ask, is because on a 90D, I can charge to 100% and then taking "Usable Full" from the CANbus, divided by EPA wpm of...

Tesla's 85 kWh rating needs an asterisk (up to 81 kWh, with up to ~77 kWh usable)

Because the car doesnt calculate using nominal at the end, it switches to usable as the energy approaches zero. Zero miles on the dash = 4kw remaining for nominal remaining capacity.

The Cancer that is Phantom Braking

The phantom braking is a result of the "Josh Brown update" from many years ago. Tesla is deciding to err on the side of caution rather than admit they can't fix this issue at this time.

Is this how Tesla does business? (Long)

Does it though? Better yet, should it have to?

Hey Tesla, there is a need for that NEMA 14-30 adapter still!

Why the vice? Use your hand and live on the edge.

Sold my Model S after 5.5 years...moving on

Those is what I've come to after 2 S's. Even at 25k miles per year, I'm ok with the mileage penalty.

Hey Tesla, there is a need for that NEMA 14-30 adapter still!

All the Jeff Dahn lectures, efficiency of AC to DC conversion, anecdotal evidence from owners with dual-chargers that charge at 40amps and up have less overall degradation (adjusted for supercharger use).

SolarEdge Inverter Startup Error New Install

Update on our end: SolarEdge says the error is not something to be concerned about and that is does happen sometimes. They did not respond to follow-up questions (yet) on what those exact thresholds are or ways to mitigate the problem from happening. I will say that it has not happened again...

Recontenting the speakers in the rear hatch?

You could put fans in like I did so the rear facing seats have some ventilation.

Supercharger - Blue Ash, OH (SC, not for public use)

I appreciated the update. 17 threads is excessive, but.... I get that you are trying to help. Which you are. THanks.

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

APv1 doesn't have the ability to funnel camera feeds from the windshield or rear-cam. For the windshield, the footage never leaves the Mobile-eye hardware, and for the rear, the MCU is only seeing an SDI input from that camera (no processing that I'm aware).

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

You aren't going to hear anything negative about Tesla from Fred..... And that's my take.

MCU1 S Owners: Logic FOR/AGAINST Tesla's $2,500 "Infotainment Upgrade"? (Not required for FSD)

We had an owner here try that and they were told $1000 core charge to keep the old MCU

MCU1 S Owners: Logic FOR/AGAINST Tesla's $2,500 "Infotainment Upgrade"? (Not required for FSD)

Don't forget the $500 labor on top of that they quoted another owner last week, from the same Columbus, Ohio service center.....

    MCU2 - Retrofit

It doesn't really matter if they curtailed logging (which they did as I understood). But the damage has already been done since you can't reverse the wear. I've heard that those who stream audio more, have higher write cycle numbers. Don't know if that's true, however, some of the owners I've...

    MCU2 - Retrofit

I've heard 3000-5000 is what similar chip life is expected to be. Obviously an automotive application would be harder on a component.
  18. S

    MCU2 - Retrofit

I was told that Tesla actually uses the number 2800 internally as a threshhold for max write cycles. Edit: And it looks like I'm wrong on that. The CID info posted is pretty clear.
  19. S

    MCU2 - Retrofit

Keep in mind it's not that simple. Existing MCUv1 is a ticking time bomb, every single one. Imagine if your BMW radio or IC stopped working at the 4 year mark?
  20. S

    MCU2 - Retrofit

No offense to any of the other groups represented here, but those with failing MCU1s should be the first priority here, not anyone just looking for a few games and faster map rendering.
  21. S

MCU1 S Owners: Logic FOR/AGAINST Tesla's $2,500 "Infotainment Upgrade"? (Not required for FSD)

Same boat as you. The added benefit here if you time it right, you can keep using your current MCU until compete failure and not have to worry about losing your security certificates that only Tesla can provide.

Service center experience: trading my 3 in for a Mercedes

Thankfully, those two things are not mutually exclusive. And regardless your positive/negative feelings on Tesla, we have them to thank for the market actually starting to give us good electric choices.

Wiki Consolidated eMMC Thread (MCU repair) (Black Center Screen)

Yeah, so here is how that's going to work: They will file on our behalf, the judge will rule in our favor, the lawyers will make about 3 million dollars, and we'll each get a check for 34 cents.....

    SolarEdge Inverter Issue-DC Error

You'd think if it was a harmonic issue that needed to be addressed in relation to the Powerwall (that's how the Powerwall "shuts down" the inverter, by adjusting the frequency), then that would be in the install guidelines. I'd hate to think they are just letting it ride and hoping it won't...

    SolarEdge Inverter Issue-DC Error

Agreed, SolarEdge is way better than Tesla at the moment. Any idea why both of our experiences seem to involve Powerwall?
  34. S

    SolarEdge Inverter Issue-DC Error

Did solar edge ever let you know what the cause was? I have a 10000h that has been running great for 18 months. Just had 2 Powerwalls installed and the first time the Powerwalls and solar were tested in tandem, the inverter freaks out. The sign something was odd was the inverter had some insane...

What is your 100% on your 90kWh battery?

Displayed range is including the 4kw bottom end buffer that is not displayed when you are below 20%.
  42. S

What is your 100% on your 90kWh battery?

@Peter Lucas Peter, in your BMS, please find "nominal capacity". Then when your car is at 100% charge OR find the "full rated range" variable in the BMS. Take the former and divide it by the latter, you'll get .290kw, or 290 wats per mile. Simple math.

Tesla banned me from purchasing another Tesla after vehicle buyback

Just because you have a buyback, doesn't mean you automatically get blacklisted. There are tons of owners out there that did buybacks and just went right back into another Tesla. Edit: Doesn't mean there isn't more to this story. It sounds like there was some friction there interacting with the...

    Model S90D Battery Degradation?

A 90kw battery never started with more than ~85kwh
  45. S

What is your 100% on your 90kWh battery?

EPA consumption on the 90D pre refresh is 290wpm. That's how they get the number at 100%. The math works out perfectly.

Yep, yet another "P" drive unit. I wonder what revision it was?
