    LR AWD Waiting Room

Finally placed my order! The extra Supercharger miles thru the end of the month were a nice incentive to get the ball rolling.

Will Tesla raise the price on existing Model Y reservations if federal rebates return next year?

Which ones? When the adjusted pricing recently they made autopilot standard, changed default color to white, and matched the color options with Model 3. The Model Y is now the about 4K more than equivalent Model 3 configurations across the board. What's left to adjust?

    LR AWD Waiting Room

This may be the week I order. Just reconciling letting my 3 years of Model Y obsession go.

    3/Y size comparison (gif)

I've been waiting for the Model Y since I first heard about it in the wake of the Model 3 launch. I do like the looks of it and would prefer a hatch generally. But my original plan to replace our SUV with the Model Y is likely not going to pan out. I've seen it in person at the shareholder...

    Model 3 AWD 18” vs 19” wheels

Thanks everyone for your input. I’m still not sure which way I’ll go- everyday looks vs occasional efficiency. Right now I’m driving an Audi A3 e-tron with the Sport tires, so those are as or even skinnier than the 19” Teslas, I think. Either way I’m sure I’ll be happy with the car.

    Model 3 AWD 18” vs 19” wheels

@mswlogo what tires did you choose to replace the Continental 19”s?

    Model 3 AWD 18” vs 19” wheels

Just to illustrate the difference for a semi-long trip. San Jose to San Diego is 461 miles. Better route planner is saying: 34min charging total for 18” Aero. 40min charging total for 19” Sport. Is 6 minutes of charging (with current V2 Superchargers) worth it? Even my 2600mi CA to Ontario...

    Model 3 AWD 18” vs 19” wheels

@bdelrizzo Thanks. Definitely aware of the step down in Range from the 18” Aero covers —> 18” no covers —> 19”. My office parking lot is a virtual Tesla dealership of other Model 3s, so I get to walk by them every day and ruminate on the options. If I went with the 18”s I would definitely...

    Model 3 AWD 18” vs 19” wheels

I’m circling ever closer to my Model 3 order- but the question that keeps vexing me is to go for the 18” vs 19” wheels. My regular commute is only 15mi round trip and we get free Level 2 charging at work. So my needs are definitely lite there. We go to Tahoe from the Bay Area regularly, but...

Will Tesla raise the price on existing Model Y reservations if federal rebates return next year?

Right now Model Y pricing is in line with current rebates. Tesla said there would be about a 10% price difference between a comparable Model 3 and Model Y. Now that Model Y pricing includes Autopilot, that price difference is sitting at about $4,010. If The Federal Tax Credit is extended...

    Standard Range Plus Supercharging Speed

There’s people who need the extra 80mi range on a regular basis. There’s people living in colder climates who see their range reduced during the winter. There’s people who want Dual Motor for adverse road conditions, There’s people who want Dual Motor for Performance. I think when we get to...

Model Y Vs X Cargo Capacity

Looking at the stats, your X5 has 33.9 ft³ [seats up] and 72.3 ft³ [seats down]. I'm willing to wager a lot of that lost square footage is due to the steep rake of the Model Y rear windshield. Dimensions at the floor may not be as far off.
  13. 11thIndian

Model Y Vs X Cargo Capacity

66 sq/ft is seats down plus frunk. For comparison, Model 3 is 15 sq/ft frunk and trunk. No separated seats up or frunk cargo space has been provided by Tesla.

    LR RWD Waiting Room

Some good deals there. I'm sure more will pop up.

    Model Y price outdated

Both SR/SR+ and 7 seat configurations aren't due until 2021. How exactly the rollout of those specific options will occur is unknown.

    LR AWD Waiting Room

Hard to believe I'm finding myself looking at LR AWD, as I'd initially been thinking of the lower end models. I'd originally been thinking SR+... but while the range is likely fine for me, I don't like the idea of the charge rate caps that it has... can't do 150 V2, let alone take advantage of...

    LR RWD Waiting Room

I popped into my Tesla showroom on my way home today. The advisor said this same thing- don't count on the $2500, and definitely not in the short term. He also let me know about the income caps, which I can likely sneak under for 2018, but almost certainly not next year, due to maturing work...

    LR RWD Waiting Room

There's legislation that's been submitted to triple the State EV Incentive from $2,500 to $7,500. But who knows if it will actually get anywhere.
  19. 11thIndian

    LR RWD Waiting Room

That was my calculation when I was playing with the numbers last night. LR AWD $47,990 + 1,200 (Delivery) +1,000 (Blue) +1,500 (19" Sport Tires) = $51,690. -$1,875 (Fed Tax Credit) -$2,500 (California Incentive) -$800 (PG&E EV Incentive) $46,515 +tx At this point the Used LR RWD is exactly the...

    LR RWD Waiting Room

You may be right. I sort of stoped watching the used cars, as without my US pink slip, I was just cursing at my inability to actually move on the great deals I was seeing. But now a new AWD seems like the best deal if you can actually reap the whole $1875 federal tax credit. Personally I...

    LR RWD Waiting Room

So weird. I've been keeping my eyes on LR RWD Used Model 3's on Tesla's site. A few weeks ago I was seeing them for high 30s / low 40s. Now the lowest price I'm seeing is $45K, with the model I'm most interested in (blue, 19" Sport tires) at $46,500 (10K miles), which is only $600 less than a...

    LR RWD Waiting Room

Agreed. Though we don't get quite as much with PG&E up here in the Bay Area. Things people need to remember is getting that discount now vs having to float that tax credit $ now until you get your return next year AND do you qualify for the entire credit based on your tax return. May not be...

    LR RWD Waiting Room

I’m not sure why anyone who wants a LR RWD isn’t gobbling up the cars on the used page. I’ll see them for as little as $38,500. When my paperwork comes thru I’ll be deciding between that or a used AWD for ~45,000. The tax credits aren’t going to get you down to these prices even if you...

    Model Y price outdated

Agreed. No reasonable chance of production start this year.

    LR RWD Waiting Room

Let's not forget that those owners got a $3750 tax credit that will likely be entirely gone by the time they sell their cars. I still see good prices on LR RWD cars- technically they still have the most range and can charge at the highest speed. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I'm about a...

    LR RWD Waiting Room

The past month has been about avoiding the $2800 California sales tax they wanted to charge me on the car I brought down from Canada. I've just gotten approval that I don't have to pay that- so even though I missed out on the $3750 tax credit, it would have been moot if I'd just eaten it and...

    LR RWD Waiting Room

Sadly I'm stuck behind DMV bureaucracy getting my vehicle imported and plated before I can use it as a trade-in, probably another 3-4 weeks. I very much hope @jvmoore gets his car before then.

    LR RWD Waiting Room

    Good to know.

    LR RWD Waiting Room

I don't think so. Here in the Bay Area we're sick with showrooms, so I'll just go in there when I'm ready. But I wouldn't put in an order for a car you don't want. That seems off to me.
  30. 11thIndian

    LR RWD Waiting Room

On the LR RWD I'm fine with taking the 19". Here in Northern CA, the only time I see adverse weather is when we drive to ski in Tahoe, and we'll be using our Tiguan for that for obvious reasons. And 95% of driving for this car will be local. Honestly the only reason I'm not going SR+ is the...

    LR RWD Waiting Room

They pop up and disappear pretty quickly, so you need to actively keep looking. I usually check in the morning and evening. But I won't be able to purchase a car for at least another month, so I'm just watching these opportunities fly by. It's not there now, but yesterday there was a blue LR...

    LR RWD Waiting Room

I think one of the sales reps said expect 6 weeks. But I think that has entirely to do with how many orders they wait for before committing to a LR RWD run. If you come in near the end, you might wait substantially less. Meanwhile there's some great deals on the Used page. Enough to...

Model Y will arrive sooner than expected

Tesla started manufacturing Model 3s in July of 2017 when they said they would at the March 2016 unveiling. It was the scale of the ramp that was way off. Right now the only two delivery metrics they've used for Model Y are "Fall 2020" for LR deliveries, and "Volume production by the end of...

Model Y will arrive sooner than expected

I’m not sure even my most optimistic projections has any Model Ys in anyone’s hands by year end. I’d be happy if they started to ramp in the Spring vs Fall. Even with all the functional similarities between the Model 3 and the Model Y, I think people are underestimating the juggling they’re...

    LR RWD Waiting Room

I think someone needs to nail Elon down on this. LR RWD is too popular an option to be marred in this kid of confusion.
  36. 11thIndian

    Model Y price outdated

They announced a base price, but since those models won’t go on sale until 2021, Tesla has only made the LR versions available for order at this point. There’s no “off menu” right now.
  37. 11thIndian

    Model Y price outdated

Since the SR versions have never been available for order, there's no price to change.
  38. 11thIndian

    LR RWD Waiting Room

Some good deals. I may very well go this way when I can finally move forward. At this point I'm only giving up on $4,500 in federal and local incentives, and I may not be eligible for all those tax credits next year.

    Standard Range Plus Supercharging Speed

I'll tell ya. It's gonna be the long tail of the 250kW max charge rate that will have me buying a LR. I could get by on the SR+ range just fine if it had the same charging capacity. But that's exactly why it has a faster charge rate, more parallel charging. Suppose that's how the Semi's...
  40. 11thIndian

    Standard Range Plus Supercharging Speed

Sorry. I was bundling in SR+ into SR. So at present we'd likely see the same 100-105kW max charge rate that we see on V2 on V3.
  41. 11thIndian

    Standard Range Plus Supercharging Speed

Have no SR cars plugged into the V3 charger at Fremont yet? Or is there something preventing that for now?
  42. 11thIndian

    Model Y price outdated

I just like to point out whenever this comes up that Model 3 first production was LR RWD. LR AWD came next. Then Performance. So most expensive first is by no means certain. All Tesla has said publicly is that SR variants and the 7-seat version won't be coming until 2021.
  43. 11thIndian

    LR RWD Waiting Room

Agreed. Most people will walk into an Apple Store and just buy one of the stock configurations of a MacBook or iMac, not realizing you can custom configure online. As Tesla’s spread to a wider and wider audience, the likelihood of that broader audience to do research goes down. It’s the early...

    LR RWD Waiting Room

I was in the Sunnyvale showroom today and asked about LR RWD cars and whether they were available for order off menu again. They said yes but that they weren’t being manufactured as frequently. Glad to hear they haven’t gone away entirely. Would make no sense.

About to pull the trigger, any known/rumored changes in the 3 upcoming?

The only thing I'd love to see is some clarity on the tow hitch. I know European regulations don't allow for it to be installed after purchase, but I'd like to here something definitive for N.A... OR have Tesla add it to the configurator.
  46. 11thIndian

    Model Y price outdated

Musk's last statement on the matter at the recent shareholder's meeting was, "We expect to hit volume production towards the end of next year. Internally we’re aiming for sooner than that, but we want to have some margin on that timing.” If they want to "hit" volume production then this raises...

    3rd Row Access

. The answer to that question is entirely dependent on how long the trip is, what time of year, and how old the passengers are. Kids travel lighter. Shorter the trip means less clothes. Plus soft bags make loads of difference. Last year my wife, me and our son were joined by my parents on a...
  48. 11thIndian

    3rd Row Access

That's definitely on my mind. Whether it's the R1S or the VW Buzz (new Bug Bus) that my wife really likes the look of, both of them suffer for NOT being a Tesla exactly because of the known quantity of the charging network. We all hope that competition evolves on this point over the next few...

    3rd Row Access

Of course the solution here is roof storage, but the question is how much does the weight of 7 people, plus luggage, and the aerodynamic hit of a good sized storage box impact the Model Y's upper limit of 300mi range. I initially ordered the Model Y with 7 seats, but realized as a decent sized...

    3rd Row Access

Funny how useful it was for those couple of times we needed it. I think the "inconvenience" of getting in and out is being massively overplayed. Whether it's in the Tiguan or the Model Y, a 3rd row with 4 doors is no more useless than a 2 door with a back seat. You're making a compromise for...
