    polestar? serious competition?

The point of my (admittedly snarky) comment was just that there are a lot of features of this class of vehicle that the average driver probably considers more important than track times, particularly when those times are basically the same. But it certainly wasn’t intended to be anything but...

    Does chill mode improve range?

I think it’s about 7 seconds. My favorite trick when I let friends drive the MYP is to secretly start in Chill and have them floor it. They go “oh, yeah, hmm that’s something wow” because most people have no idea what fast actually is. And I’m like “mmm, that didn’t feel quite right though. Oh...

Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 on Uberturbines- 265/35 & 275/35R21

Wish I had a more interesting update re: 295/40/21, but just called Americas Tire again and apparently my front 265s are just coming out of back order and will be shipping from Georgia on Monday. So hoooopefully by next Friday, which means installing after the holiday.

    TACC following distance is iliogical

It’s because we read left to right. Therefore, visually we associate that direction with forward progress, which is why in films more often than not if they want to show a character advancing they’ll be moving that way, if they want to show regression or create a sense of discomfort they’ll be...

    polestar? serious competition?

To me it's more of a 3 competitor. It doesn't have the kind of storage capacity as the Y, and as with other EVs converted from ICE platforms the frunk and sub-trunk are less substantial.

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

Oh, yeah no I'm doing 265/40/21 front and 295/40/21 rear. No chance those would fit up front!

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

Are you sure? Based on what? Judging from the photos I’ve seen of people running the 285/40/21 it looks like there’s enough room left. But that’s why I ordered the 35s as a back up.

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

I’m hoping to get the 295/40/21 mounted this week, but had the shop order a set of 35s just in case. Had to go to three Walmarts myself yesterday before finally finding one that would take them back. They gave me an instant refund for the rears sold by Walmart, and printed shipping labels to...

    polestar? serious competition?

Test drove the Polestar 2 before buying my MYP. It was very comfortable inside, much preferred the interior. Felt more premium than the Tesla. Drove nicely, with plenty of power. A few dealbreakers though: Headroom in the back was complety inadequate. Infotainment system felt pretty clunky and...

Maximum Tires Size Model Y Performance?

I hope you’re wrong because I’ve got a set of 295/40/21 that I’m hoping to have installed next week. Others have managed 285/40 and 295/35, it’s only very slightly taller and rough measurements seem to indicate they’ll fit. But I’ve considered ordering a backup pair of 295/35 just to be safe.

No, the front tires haven’t come in yet. Yesterday they told me sometime next week. I’m excited to update as soon as it happens!

Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 on Uberturbines- 265/35 & 275/35R21

The rear wheels are an inch wider, about 25mm, so already a difference of 20mm leaves the rears a little more stretched than the fronts. 275s are already pretty tight, I feel like 265s would be merely painted onto the wheel.

Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 on Uberturbines- 265/35 & 275/35R21

Quick update, sounds like it’s going to be another week before Americas Tire gets my 265/40s in. If I had time I’d probably just start with the 295/40s, since those are ready and obviously the big question mark. But, alas, I can’t make two trips. Tom Petty was right; the waiting is the hardest...

Holy crap Tidal makes the audio system come ALIVE.

Well you all convinced me to sign up for HiFi at $1 for 3 months. Excited to try it in my car, but so far I cannot play anything in the iOS app (yes, strong fast internet). The play button just spins for every track I try to play. Anyone else have this experience?

Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 on Uberturbines- 265/35 & 275/35R21

America's Tire told me they'll they buy tires, just depends on age/tread wear and mine should have no issues there. Worth asking your shop if they'll do it. If they offer me anything close to a reasonable price I'll probably take it and run.

Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 on Uberturbines- 265/35 & 275/35R21

It’s splitting hairs, but my hope is that the 265/40 will provide a slightly more comfortable ride than the 275/35. The benefit of a wider tire would seem to be rim protection, but I don’t think that’s as important on the fronts as it is on the rears. I’d rather have a little more sidewall...

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

Yeah, they operate as Americas Tire out here. I think they’re readily available, the rears arrived same day and the fronts should be here in 1-5 business days. They’re also cheaper than the AS4s by a not insignificant amount.

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

Ordered mine yesterday, the rears have come in and the fronts are expected next week. I’ll definitely post pictures and impressions once they’re on, or a photo of my head in a bucket of water if they don’t fit.

Where to hide or stash a key card on the outside of the vehicle.

I think you’ve misread the intent a little. This is simply about having a backup in case the phone key doesn’t work. I don’t carry a wallet (drivers license, couple CCs and a few bucks cash in a wallet case for my phone) and as long as the phone works as a key I’m likely to use the cards in...

A small magnetic case like this mounted under the car might be the ticket. Could also pop a little GPS tracker like an AirTag in it, in case it ever fell off.

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

Lol got all the way to the point of checking out on Discount Tire to buy the Continentals and it made me enter my car, and then wouldn’t let me purchase the tires because they’re not a “compatible” size. Swear this whole process between the Walmart fiasco and everything has just been ridiculous.

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

Since no one else has claimed the honor, I'm considering being the guinea pig for 295/40/21s in the rear, with 265/40/21 in front. Several people are running 285/40 in the rear and that was my original preference, but the Michelins are unavailable, and the Continentals (which Tire Rack rates...

Coffee advice for new MYP owners

Couple days ago I found a side street to do a quick 0-60 in the MYP and was troubled by a sound, or… lack thereof? After a few seconds I realized it was the missing sound of golf clubs hurtling around the back of the car, and then hustled back to the car wash where I’d left them 15 minutes prior.

Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 on Uberturbines- 265/35 & 275/35R21

Well now I’m looking at the Continentals. Seems 285 isn’t a thing, only 295 in both 35 and 40. I know some people have been running AS4s in 295/35, but is there any reason not to go with the 295/40? I assume rubbing wouldn’t be an issue since it’s for the rears.

Yikes! Thanks for the update. What a farce. Going to wait to hear how it ends for you before I make any more moves. I just got off the phone with them, they did give me credits of $15 and $25, but are unable to give me a shipping label due to federal regulations of shipping tires, blah blah...

Well the good news is my tires came a week early! The bad news is that they’re exactly as wrong as yours! What a joke. What’s y’all’s plan? I’m going to return these to Walmart but demand that they honor the price and send me the right tires, even if it means waiting. Here in LA it probably...

Road Trip from Los Angeles to Monterey....

I assume the car caches the map to some degree, but haven’t really driven any extended stretch without service to find out. But if you’ve set the route and it’s factored in a charging station in an area without cell service, it would still be able to get you there as long as you don’t reset your...

    UI & AP improvement wishes/suggestions

I'm not sure it's as simple as a default. When I've been in a left lane on the highway and an HOV lane suddenly starts to the left, the car gets confused for a second and then confidently merges back right to stay in the original lane once it sees the new lines.

Who Bought My 2021 Model Y? Was it you???

I get that, and I don’t think you’re doing anything super messed up here. But tracking the location is a little invasive, even if it’s anonymous. Also if you somehow find them on here then it’s no longer anonymous. But maybe free PPF is worth it to them, who knows.

    UI & AP improvement wishes/suggestions

Great ideas @eleven24, agree with all of them. I'd love to be able to adjust position slightly while remaining on AP. Also, if I signal to change lanes then just let me go for a second without disengaging and having to reengage AP. Agree there's too much swiping and tapping, especially in the...

Model Y makes hum noise all the time

Wow, credit to her for putting her foot down and demanding they get it right. Honestly the next step could be to open a lemon law case. I don't really know what that entails, but a buddy of mine is going through it with his two-year-old Ford Explorer and expects to get a full refund.

Anyone regret buying the Acceleration Boost for their Model Y?

Depends on the state. In California to qualify for the additional $2,000 the applicant must have income less than $150,000 for individual filers, or $300,000 for joint filers. https://cleanvehiclerebate.org/eng/requirements/3020

What is the best controller for playing the games on Tesla?

Yeah all the buttons are wrong, what's up with that? For some reason the left thumb click acts as the pause button, which is brutal when I get into tense situations and accidentally pause myself to death. I know things are a little busy at the plant, but let's get that fixed Elon, sheesh.
