Elon says AWD and Perf orders start at end of next week!

A performance 3 will likely have none of that except for maybe bugger brakes. Otherwise it'll be the same. That is just how Tesla does things. The S and X performance models are $40k more and the only thing you get is red calipers and ludicrous acceleration. Doubt they break from that for their...

Elon says AWD and Perf orders start at end of next week!

A stripped down P3D for $64k, with bigger brakes and and coil suspension? And 3.1 seconds acceleration? Yes please! Unfortunately I don't see that as realistic.:(

Phone Distracted Driver on Autopilot Slams into Firetruck

I think it is very likely AP was on. If he was going 50+mph and came up on the fire truck stopped at a red light, it is common for AP to not recognize it and act. But the driver could have had it off and still been texting.

45k$ — Looking for Model S with Autopilott under 45$K in Dallas TX area

If you want CPO it needs to be from Tesla and not an individual. I haven't seen any AP 2.0 vehicles that are CPO for that price. But good luck!

New oak interior decor in configurator

Just tell them you don't like the new graphite trim with oak. Since they didnt give you a choice, tell them you want to change to carbon fiber. If he says no, ask to speak to his manager.

Dual Fatality Model S Crash/Fire: Fort Lauderdale, FL May 8, 2018

You act like this is some huge legal hurdle but provide no basis. My brand new car was delivered to me still in demo mode. Did I have a huge legal case I could get them on?

    MS P85D wheel spacers?

I ordered the same time as you. Still haven't received them. They told me they were behind on orders. Hopefully I'll receive them this week.

Red Model S with XPEL Stealth

Looks good! You're definitely right about there not being many. I thought really hard about doing my MCR in Xpel Stealth and only found one picture of the X. I didn't like it and ended up just changing the color with a vinyl wrap. It was 1/3 the cost of the quotes I got for the Xpel and the Xpel...

A 2 channel dash cam would provide better coverage than their single camera.

Bluetooth phone as key is coming to Model S and Model X

The activity key is useful in a small number of situations. The phone as a key is definitely far superior. For people that wear a smart watch, Apple watch or Android wear as a key would be better than both. Of course you would need to be much more mindful of your battery level.

Tesla cripple model S stranding family

If you buy a salvage vehicle and don't know it, you have much bigger issues than worrying about supercharging. That'll just be one small thing to be concerned about.
  15. GatorGuy

Bluetooth phone as key is coming to Model S and Model X

The manner that you described it dependent on having a connection with the Tesla servers. So if you have no/poor reception it might fail to connect or when the Tesla servers go down like we saw recently you could be stranded. This is a direct connection to the car and definitely more ideal.
  16. GatorGuy

Tesla cripple model S stranding family

Great point. I strongly disagree with the term disabled. If all charging was turned off then you could call it disabled. Only supercharging? Nah. I would also ask when he found out that the car did not have a warranty that it would have been even more important to double check whether it should...

Tesla cripple model S stranding family

So everyone knows that Tesla doesn't support salvage vehicles, including this guy when he bought the car. He wanted work done and thought that he had a hidden gem with getting a car with warranty and supercharger support. But it turns out it had none of that. So he got exactly what he first...

    Someone unplugged my car

Personally I will never use a lock because there have been instances where when the lock is used people have had air let out of their tires or their car keyed. I would rather be mildly inconvienced than deal with either of those.

Front and rear mounts were custom 3D printed by the shop which did the install.

Dual Fatality Model S Crash/Fire: Fort Lauderdale, FL May 8, 2018

I would imagine that the battery is exposed in most of these accidents where significant enough trauma has happened to cause battery compromise and fire. Either way, a 2.5lb fire extinguisher wouldn't do much against possibly 1500 lbs of fuel. BTW, I carry one of these in all my vehicles ever...

Dry Carbon Fiber Vinyl that matches OEM trim/spoiler

Are you recommending CFS12 as a close match? They look similar in low light, but with bright light they look to have very different reflective properties.

Dual Fatality Model S Crash/Fire: Fort Lauderdale, FL May 8, 2018

Please link their change in policy. The 2nd document only shows results from tests and nothing about a change in policy. What is your argument here? Halon isn't an effective fire suppressor for lithium fires? Clearly it is effective. It is recommended as first line by the FAA. By the FAA...

Dual Fatality Model S Crash/Fire: Fort Lauderdale, FL May 8, 2018

Thank you. There is a big difference between fire suppression and extinguishing. I have no interest in fighting a fire. If there isn't a person involved any car can sit there and burn for all I care. I'm not interested in saving property, only lives. And ICE vehicles catch on fire far more...

Did Tesla just kill the cream interior just for the P100D?

I agree with you about the ash > oak. However, I like the graphite with black but I understand how some think its too dark.

Did Tesla just kill the cream interior just for the P100D?

Not a loss. I think the cream looks terrible with the new graphite trim.

New oak interior decor in configurator

They are getting rid of the silver trim and making it graphite. This is what it looks like with cream/oak. Not a good look IMO.

Tesla sent an email about new interior trim

Yikes, that looks terrible. The graphite looks great with the black/carbon trim.

Dual Fatality Model S Crash/Fire: Fort Lauderdale, FL May 8, 2018

I work in the ER so I talked to a couple of fire rescue guys I trust as well as did my own research. If you're using this, someone is trapped in a fire. They're going to die if you don't do something. How much O2 do you get in a fire? Also ANY fire extinguisher will displace oxygen. Ever used a...

Dual Fatality Model S Crash/Fire: Fort Lauderdale, FL May 8, 2018

I bought a 2.5lb halon fire extinguisher which obviously won't put out the fire. But atleast have something to give you the option if you need to get to someone trapped.

Dual Fatality Model S Crash/Fire: Fort Lauderdale, FL May 8, 2018

It sad to hear about more death of teens so close to the last accident. These cars are so easy to drive fast but inexperienced drivers just don't know how easy and quickly you can lose control. And of course they don't think about the consequences of such. After the Model X fire I meant to buy...

    Trade in values

You have a couple options other than trading in to Tesla or doing a 3rd party sale. Very simple options which sometimes yield more than Tesla are Carmax, Vroom or Carvana. The last two are very easy and from quotes I've seen, give you the most. Of those 3, Carmax is the only one I've used. But...

Dry Carbon Fiber Vinyl that matches OEM trim/spoiler

I think that is what my rear diffuser is wrapped in, and if so, it isn't even close. I found a thread by @artsci who wrapped the end of his dash which I want to do. It looks nearly identical to stock. Waiting on a reply from him.

    Someone unplugged my car

This wasn't about convenience for the OP but rather need. But your need is constrained by the rules of the charger you are using. Evidently those chargers are only allowed to be used for 2 hours at a time. Nothing has been mentioned about exceptions for overnight. Is it really inconvenient to...

    Someone unplugged my car

And again this why pretty much all public chargers should cost to charge there. Businesses should even consider charging their employees for using their chargers. It uses solid economic theory to open up chargers to those who actually need them. And takes away the incentive to needlessly tie up...

  43. GatorGuy

    Someone unplugged my car

I agree 100%. EVSE's are gas stations for EVs and as such they such all charge those who use them. This will limit the behavior of people using these inappropriately and have them more available for cars which actually need the electricity. Making all public charging stations cost something...

    Someone unplugged my car

I have a camera in my back window. 2 channel dashcams are pretty common these days. There must be many people in the area who don't have the ability to charge where they live and need to charge in this location. Why else would people care about who charges at City Hall at 3am?
  45. GatorGuy

    Someone unplugged my car

I think Rat is right this guy showed up probably wanting to charge his own car and found the charger occupied. Why else would he be at City Hall at 3am? If you wanted to "leave a note for him", you could print out posters with his picture on it and mention it isn't nice to unplug charging EVs.

    P85D wheel setup

We've had very different experiences then. While I've heard people bragging about ridiculous things like the diameter of their wheels, I don't think I ever remember someone bragging about a staggered setup. :)

    P85D wheel setup

I've done plenty of research, both reading and actual experience. I have run square and staggered setups and regularly visit the track. My current track car is running a staggered setup (2010 ZR1, both in diameter and width). Normally, on an AWD car I would prefer square. Especially one which...

Any benefit to "clear" tint on windshield?

I had my all glass roof tinted. It was already heavily tinted but on the hottest days I did feel heat coming in.
  49. GatorGuy

    P85D wheel setup

I also take issue with the "no real benefit". More tire in the back means more traction for acceleration and braking. You also get better handling. This is why so many track cars run a staggered setup and why it comes stock from Tesla that way. I doubt they simply do it for looks since it likely...
