The Grand Tour did Model X Review - Clarkson Liked it - Kind of

Sorry, coming to this thread late. I did already post some of this years ago, but I wanted to bring a few new ideas in a more coherent post. Everyone here on TMC (including me) are living in a bubble. We are a minority and everyone outside this bubble isn't as educated or fanatical about all...

    Software version 2018.4.7 3ee0f17 detected

Yes, the message said something along the lines of "AP/TACC disabled, may be due to Radar obstruction". It's the first time I've seen this message in 18 months of ownership. I was on 2017.50.2, so it could be relatively new, but around since at least late last year.

    Software version 2018.4.7 3ee0f17 detected

I got that issue on 2017.50.2, so I think it's been there for a while. Front nose was covered by very gritty/dirty snow and AP/TACC was unavailable.

Falcon Wing Doors Opening By Themselves

I used to close the trunk on myself once ever month or two. Ever since I got this FOB case 3 months ago, there hasn't been any accidental clicks. There are a few similar types out there, so shop around.

Wishing I had bought the X (current S owner) - think I can get a good deal?

Technically, both the Model-X and Model-S have the exact same drag coefficient (0.24). The total aerodynamic forces on a vehicle is the frontal surface area multiplied by the drag coefficient. Since the Model-X has a larger frontal area, it's forces are going to be higher, but technically the...

    Key Fob Battery Life

18 months sounds very reasonable to me. If you purchase the yearly service plan, Tesla changes the batteries for you every 12 months. I couldn't find the batteries at most retailers, so I just ordered CR-2354 from Amazon.

Just ordered my MX ... Looking at the order sheets, full self driving is not a great option?

Yeah, those of you that think that Ford or Audi or any of the traditional auto-makers will come out with their own FSD vehicles in the next few years are out-to-lunch. Remember, all those automakers have been promising us EVs for the past 20 years. I for one am not falling for that line again...

Model X door reopening when walking away

After almost 2 years of ownership, this just started happening to me last month (3 incidences so far) after the recent OTA update (4.1). This appears to be the exact same thing that happened to Elon Musk on stage at the Model-X reveal in Sept 2015. Feels like an old bug. I'm sure it'll get...

    Eastern Canada Superchargers

I thought it was 60A in Ontario too. I have a 60A line to my HWPC and they installed a emergency cut-off switch. Last week, after 18 months of use, the cut-off switch failed. Turns out that there was too much plastic surrounding a metal spring-loaded plate, preventing the spring to push the...

    Beyond my imagination.

Looks photoshopped to me. Very much doubt that can be implemented as shown, since those dimensions wouldn't work with all the HVAC and electronics in the rear. Those lower compartments would be significantly smaller.

    Expensive Options

I find the car over-head status to be good enough. It shows clouds around my vehicle and exactly how close they are. I use the distance all the time to determine how close I want to park. Mind you, I've never owned a vehicle with overhead view, so I'm not sure what I'm missing.

Mode X Key Fob (non PUP) Open front doors...

That makes sense. The 3 months I had AutoPreset=OFF was in 2016, so prior to this change. I agree that they should de-couple this setting, although at the moment it doesn't affect me.

Mode X Key Fob (non PUP) Open front doors...

I'm not following this thread very well, maybe because I have PUP and have Auto-Present=ON. It was my understanding that: non-PUP could still open the front doors with the FOB PUP with Auto-Present=OFF could still open the front doors with the FOB For my first 3 months of ownership I had...

    Camping mode disappeared

You make a good point. I have personally emailed Tesla dozens of recommendations. One of the first was the UI door layout. Even a year after ownership, I was still accidently closing the front doors on my passengers rather than closing the FWD doors. It's is totally unintuitive. I recommend...

    Camping mode disappeared

@Aljohn, @dgatwood is not criticizing Tesla's implementation of the Camper Mode feature. But rather he is criticizing the User Interface design, specifically the presentation to the end-user. There is a whole college program on UI design and there have been some rules laid out on what is a...

    Model X Deep Sleep

Mine does the same thing when I have late night outings. I think it assumes that you've arrived and your destination and don't plan to drive again till morning, based on the late hour. Not sure if it using some default time for everyone, or if it tries to use some AI to determine when you...

Failure of Traction, Stability, Emergency autobraking, and Cruise Control

AutoPilot is the perfect description. Musk did not invent this term, it has been used by the airline industry for many decades. Tesla's AutoPilot works similar to an airplane's auto-pilot. It's definitely not a co-pilot and if Tesla called it Co-Pilot, then it would definitely be misleading.

Please Tesla - optional speed limiter

Tesla has already implemented a Speed Limiter. It's just not available to the general user (yet) only to Service Station. They turn it on the loaners when they give them out to customers. It limits top speed and I think max power (acceleration) too.

    New Blackvue Dashcam (DR750S)

Moving Seats Back in 5 Seater Config

Yeah, all these ideas are pretty wacky and not very practical. If money is no object, you really need to bring in a professional. And most of these ideas would require reshaping the roof line in order to give more head space. Something like this that was done on a Model-S:

    Tesla's ICE'ing Urban Super Charger

I don't if this applies to all Tesla vehicles, but I was able to open the chargeport of locked 2013 P85 by pressing the button on the HWPC handle (and of course charge it). I would expect the same thing to happen at a SC.

All-weather protection for the rear cargo trench?

    GPS Fence for Trunk height

There is a sensor on the roof of the X in between the FWD doors. The roof sensor is used when both the FWD and trunk open. If you open the FWD in your garage and then over-ride it on the main console, you can select "Always Open Fully at this location". This will tell the X to mostly ignore...

    GPS Fence for Trunk height

I would love this feature to work, but it works the exact same way for me. I think they removed this functionality a year ago or longer. What you can do is force the FWD doors to open all the way on the big touch screen and have it remember that because it will also apply to the trunk. This...

Spoiled DOGS... How to keep them in the back... 5 seater...

I can attest that this option indeed leaves marks. It can last days after you remove it. Also, even in it's most compressed configuration, it was too big. So I had to remove the vertical bars, cut it down a few inches and drill a new hole (for the adjustment screw) and put it all back together.

All-weather protection for the rear cargo trench?

I bought this one. I keep my trunk set at the lower level and this fits inside it. Just make sure you get the correct version for your model year as they may have changed shape somewhat. Weathertech has begun selling their own unbranded version too. Again, make sure you get the right one for...

    Tow Bar and Charger Storage?

My UMC bag has 2 sides, a mesh side that has the cable and my adapters and a non-mesh side that has an elastic loop that the tow hook fits nicely inside. That's where I store mine. I keep my UMC bag in the frunk because I rarely use it (I have installed a HWPC at home). I also stuck 2 strips...

    MX 75D vs MS 85

The loaner probably is speed/acceleration limited. Max speed is probably limited to 80 mph or 90 mph. Otherwise, the S should be more zippy due to it's lower weight and smaller frontal surface area. Not to mention, it should have much greater range too. With regards to regen, make sure that...

    Bosal Hitch Adapter Loosening

FWIW, I've driven a couple of hours with 3 mountain bikes (2 carbon, 1 steel). I didn't weigh the total, but I would guess it would be 130 lbs including the Thule Apex rack. This was with 20" wheels. Absolutely no issues.

    Removing middle row center seat

I do recall reading of someone in Europe (I believe) removing the 2nd row center pedestal seat. However, there were many "latch" issues since the software still believed that the seat was...

Model X FWD damage | Hit garage wall

There are many scenarios where one may want to drive with the door open. For example, if you want to back up and stick your head out the door to visually look at a particular obstacle. Or having the FWD open during a parade. You can't lock things down so much that the car becomes an obstacle...

My active spoiler became loose and I thought I'd take it in to have it tightened. I thought it would be a "while-you-wait" type of repair. They had my vehicle for a month and had to send it out to a body shop for some of the work. Turns out that the Active Spoiler is really cool, but a pain...
