My Model S does something similar. When I do a hard acceleration at about 50 mph , I get a bit of a rattling rumbling noise then as I approach 100 mph the sound sometimes changes to something that sounds almost like a siren from behind the car. Then as I approach 150 mph, it always fades away...

Speaking of weird noises... I frequently hear a siren noise from behind the car shortly after pressing the accelerator all the way to the floor. If I keep the pedal pressed to the floor, it eventually goes away. :cool:

Alternate way to open the rear doors is to reach through the open driver door opening and use the interior door lever for the rear door. It's a short reach and will open the remaining doors on the second pull of the lever.

Another tell tale sign of a performance model is if the car is wrapped around a tree with a teenager in the driver seat. :cool:

...also many charging locations have at least one stall where the charger is located at the front of the stall. Not sure if these are marked on the map though...

I'm in the same boat as you but figure I'd prefer the CHANCE that I'd have to drop $20-$25k on a new battery than the GUARANTEE that I'd spend at least that to step down into a lesser car. Just my two cents...

For perspective, I have a 2016 S 85D that I regularly use camping mode with. Exclusively using the a/c all night long only drains the battery a little more than 1% per hour even on the warmest nights.
