    Porsche Taycan

Those exhaust pipes are probably the fake ones on the test mules. It's disguise. As far as quality and general impressiveness goes, the Taycan will be right up there for sure. Shame it's more expensive than the Tesla and has no high-power DC charging infra in place, but there will be some CCS...

EU Model 3 has DAB+ radio and FM... so assume ours will too!

Since we have DAB+ and the rest of the world uses DAB, they need to be aware of the difference...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Sort of. The rotor windings in an IM are just copper bars with closed ends (like shorted turns) embedded in steel laminations. The stator has the energised windings. There are no permanent magnets in the rotor, the rotor field is made by (quite large!) currents in the shorted turns, induced...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

What Wh/km figures were people getting from non-D Model S's as compared to D versions? I'll start by giving mine: in a 90D, 160-170 Wh/km in suburban driving, about the same on freeways at 110km/h. A lot of hills and stop/starts push it up around 190-200.

    Using CCS chargers

Given the choice of CCS vs Chademo adapters at the same price, I'd go for CCS - there will be more of them in the future, and at higher power.

    Using CCS chargers

Looks like (from the footnote) new Model S and X made from 1 Feb. will come with the adapter. No mention yet of when/if the adapter can be bought separately.

Am I misinformed? (EV fires versus ICE fires)

A car-racing mate of mine reckoned he'd never buy a Tesla because of the risk of Li battery fires. Well, I imagine he still uses phones and power drills. And has one or more ICE cars with highly flammable stuff in little tinny tanks, poured in the open air from bowsers. Yeah... I'll take the...

    Australia government supports for EVs

Respecting the person doesn't let you off the hook for calling out dangerous ideas, or mean that you always agree with them. Indeed it makes it all the more important to think about how best to interact with people who might not have a good cultural/scientific/religious fit with you. The world...

+1. We are all in these cars (and on this planet!) together, so respect is the norm.

    Australia government supports for EVs

Here are a couple that seem relevant. There are many links on them, some of which may help. I can't find any direct reference to the 50-100x figure, though that means little, as I've only spent 5 minutes looking... What is causing the increase in atmospheric CO2? Carbon dioxide in Earth's...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

They are all headed to EU and China (Tesla just got homologation approved for EU). Teslarati looks like a good source of info on these happenings. But I see no mention yet of RHD cars, and the UK is probably missing out on the EU goodness.
  14. aegidius

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

No mention of RHD cars at all in the noise about M3 ramping and shipping to EU, so we (and UK and Japan) will have to wait a while yet.

    Australia government supports for EVs

Last word from me on energy policy... many people are saying to do nothing, because nothing we do would make difference. Well it does, even if by example to others. At least states and private companies are doing something (solar farms, batteries) If everyone waited for the rest of the world to...

    Australia government supports for EVs

Whatever _carbon_ (not CO2) that is around today, was around in the past. The problem is that we are putting more of this carbon into the atmosphere as CO2, and removing more of the living means by which it can be removed. These effects are aided by vicious cycles (feedback loops) which...

How much do you charge from solar in Australia?

Roof pitches are usually a little too flat in Sydney. They're about right in the north coast or Brisbane. (and an old tile roof is a pain to mount anything on)

    Tesla discontinuing 75kwh packs

Those people will look, as I did, to the secondhand inventory and buy something from there instead. A secondhand S75, 85 or 90 will be an attractive alternative to the initially higher-priced new 3's.

    Tesla discontinuing 75kwh packs

Esp. as none of the recent noise about international marketing to Eu and China etc. and its accompanying production ramp-up, mentions any RHD cars.

How much do you charge from solar in Australia?

Car uses maybe 10-15kWh/day, my panels generate about that in summer, 7-8kWh in winter. So I said 75%. But I'm charging at night, so the grid is involved, as it would be for most people (unless they are home during the day and have a dedicated solar array or no useful FIT)

    Australia government supports for EVs

At the risk of being even more political, I guess it depends on what you feel is more important: tinkering round the edges of policies that may or may not effect a few rich people, of doing something basic about energy and climate change. I'll nail my colours to the mast and say that I reckon...

    Australia government supports for EVs

Yeah I'm not complaining really either. EV's (starting with the Teslas) had to stand or fall on their own terms as cars, the others will do the same I'm sure. Heartened by the obvious evidence that they are being purchased because they are great cars, not just EV's, and people are prepared to...

    Australia government supports for EVs

A quick google reveals that Labor policy has little for EV's either, but some state govts do (SA). Labor has incentives planned for house batteries, and to retain the emissions target of the old Neg. Better than the Coal-ition (not hard) but still no cherry on top for EV's. Labor to offer $2,000...

    Defeating the Autopilot Nag

I find autosteer not particularly useful because of the nag, except on long freeway trips. The TACC, on the other hand, is absolutely invaluable. Only new thing I'd like TACC to do is follow changing speed limits like AP does. There should be no reason why it can't already do this, Tesla just...

    Superchargers in Australia

I guess there's a bit of nark out there against EV's. However, a bunch of Teslas blockading the local servo would go down like a lead balloon.

    Superchargers in Australia

There was talk of an adapter for existing cars - an exciting possibility as it would open up other charging networks such as the NRMA, QLD electric highway, and so on.

Tesla Roadside - Limited in Places

Go for it - I was told that when I traded in my old car for the Tesla, and found I couldn't select Tesla in the list of vehicle makes when I was changing vehicle details. Rang up and was told no Teslas. That was Aug/Sept. Perhaps they have reconsidered in the meantime?

Tesla Roadside - Limited in Places

Commodore 19" rim should be ok for a full size spare, lots of people use those. They also have a space saver in their later cars with the same bolt pattern, but I'm not sure it will fit around the brake calipers. There is a thread somewhere on TMC about using a BMW space saver spare.

Tesla Roadside - Limited in Places

RACQ told me they don't do roadside calls for Teslas. I dropped out of RACQ roadside for that reason - that was earlier in 2018 when I bought my 90D. Did they came to you as an ad-hoc paid-for call? I'll be carrying a spare on any road trip in light of your experience.

    Superchargers in Australia

Not seeing any evidence of SC upgrades to CCS2 in Aust yet. And no apparent talk on the UK forum about it either. Seems strange if the RHD M3 are coming soon (mid 2019)

    Superchargers in Australia

The M3 takeup will be limited by distribution - the rumoured 10000-80000 Oz M3 purchases will not all land at once! (yes, I've heard rumours at both extremes - some from actual Tesla sales staff). But if they will need the CCS2 chargers, then Tesla will have to get cracking, and us MS/X owners...

    Supercharger - Broadbeach, Qld

Yeah I read those articles too - unfortunate. In that case, we'll know the M3 is coming to Oz soon when they start tearing down SC and refitting them.
  37. aegidius

    Supercharger - Broadbeach, Qld

There's no way they can convert all the SC to dual plug in time, surely. We would have seen evidence of the work. M3 will have to be able to charge off current SC, at least at first - and it would be advantageous if they could continue to do so, even with the extra DC pins present in the socket...

    Superchargers in Australia

See other thread about the Maroochydore supercharger, which is not even on Tesla's coming-soon list, and it's nearly finished! Last communication from Sunshine Plaza was that was supposed to open today (10/12). Has anyone got visuals on the other Qld sites?

    Supercharger - Maroochydore, Qld

They have a list of SC that are coming soon (like Gympie) and the Maroochydore one isn't even on that list.
