Battery Energy Capacities per Parts Website

Not sure if anyone else has posted this, but I thought I'd put it up in case no one has yet. Looks like Tesla has listed the battery energy capacities for the three different variants (we already essentially know the LR) LR = 75 kWh MR = 62 kWh SR = 50 kWh Can be found under Model 3 > 16. Hv...

    Any else getting Hillbillied ?

Yeup, and I've seen them smoke out cyclists, motorcycles, pedestrians, Prii (Priuses?), etc... on purpose, all before the advent of the mass produced EV. I'd be willing to bet some serious money that they're are people that do it to EVs now, particularly Teslas. I have some pretty conservative...

Hypothetical: How long until wireless car charging?

ORNL demonstrates 120 kW wireless charging for vehicles; 97% efficiency Surprisingly, high powered wireless charging looks to be very good from the efficiency perspective. ORNL developed a 120kW, 97% efficient system.

    Best Charging Practice for Battery

Interesting... I like it. Thanks for posting. I'd like to figure out how to get in to the 3's BMS output and start pulling data on cell voltages and if there are any estimated health metrics. I imagine it would have to be an inline CAN bus splice of some kind to get at it.

    Any else getting Hillbillied ?

I would call non-emergency highway patrol and report highly illegal lighting modifications that were used to severely impair your vision and other, oncoming traffic's as well. If you have the plate number, and even a small amount of video, it should be good.

    Any else getting Hillbillied ?

There is a way to report smoking trucks in the state of California and in many other states as well (even in Texas): Enforcement: Smoking Vehicle Complaint Program They actually pose a significant health risk and if a person does it to you on purpose, I believe it can be considered assault. I...

    Any else getting Hillbillied ?

I've called 911 several times for highly erratic behavior, particularly when it poses a significant risk to myself or other people on the road, particularly if you have a license plate number to report.

Hypothetical: How long until wireless car charging?

SAE has already released recommended practices for this under J2954. It is now a matter of adoption by industry to accept those practices and run with it.

So, why does Tesla have such a hard time painting cars?

VOCs + CO + NOx = Ozone Ozone = smog Smog = health and safety implications CA, generally, has much more tightly controlled VOCs due to air quality issues throughout the state. As other areas of the country become more populated, they will have to begin to implement similar strategies to deal...

    Best Charging Practice for Battery

Let’s just say I may know someone in the right place to see the right vehicle data from the right vehicles to know. But, I also have experience as a battery test engineer for major OEMs. The strategy I mention also jives with my experience interfacing with BMSs. The BMS needs an opportunity to...

Tesla Model 3 delivery is FUBAR

Had one of the Dieselgate VWs (09 Jetta TDI) and the injection pump let go. Luckily, car seemed to shut down before any (or most?) metal shavings made their way into the engine. This is not an anomaly for those vehicles. It was a well enough documented issue that VW extended the fuel system...

Model 3 Performance Battery Degradation One Month (Story)

The 2 cycle equations exist for a reason and is the basis of a SAE development process that involves BEV engineers, 3rd party test engineers, and governmental certification staff. Creating a custom correction factor other than 0.7 based on 5 cycle type testing is not a result of artificially...

    Best Charging Practice for Battery

No higher than 80% for daily use. Charge to 100% every few months or so and let the car sit for 12-24 hours. Sitting at 100% SOC is not good for the battery life, but it is offset with letting the BMS do some optimal top end balancing. The balancing will limit cell to cell voltage variation...

    Disappointing Delivery Experience - AWD

Understood and agreed. The whole rushing around thing made it tough to keep my head on straight. Disappointing Delivery Experience - AWD

Agreed. Taking the car straight to the service center and dumping it off in front of the building definitely helped with that. But, from what I understand, functioning AC is vital to proper operation of the vehicle. No AC = no battery cooling.

But there are other options that would satisfy a temporary need and will hopefully push Tesla. No, you didn't say it directly, but you implied that Musk is the sole decider of what happens and there is no feedback loop in there for customer dollars. Basically from what you're saying, Tesla has no accountability to its customers? So, for sake of argument, lets say 10,000 of us started the process to cancel orders due to Tesla's poor handling of customer orders and transparency in the process, you don't think that wouldn't have any effect...

I disagree. We, the customer, can change what they're doing and how they do it. People that grow dissatisfied enough to take their business elsewhere will fundamentally hurt the company. turning radius rwd v awd/p

The axle runs through the lower mounting fork of the damper in the case of the Model 3 AWD. When the front wheels pivot about their steering axis, the front axles must be able to 'bend' as well, otherwise you wouldn't be able to steer. I have not designed front suspensions with a driven axle...

    Let's discuss Dual Motor range

Model S also runs two AC Induction motors. Not one PM motor and one AC Induction like the Model 3 AWD. The PM motor is likely way more efficient across a much broader area and the mass penalty from the extra weight for the AWD on the 3 is likely drop the efficiency of the car as a whole. My...

Doesn't Tesla use different axle assemblies and rear drive units on their P versions of the Model S and X. They don't really advertise those. Its just part of the improved performance package.

    Handling on AWD 3

A couple of questions for you, particularly since you're doing all sorts of testing with the Model 3 and willing to share with all of us (no good deed goes unpunished :) ). What is your sense of the driving authority mechanism for the stability/traction? Is it just looking for wheel slip at...

    Handling on AWD 3

I disagree on the limited slip argument because the Performance Model 3 will be AWD and will likely have much tighter and quicker control of effective wheel torque at any given moment (resolution and speed of torque control on an electric motor is likely to be an order of magnitude better than a...
