This is how it appears to me as well, but the question is why. The car clearly has the ability to see obstacles and stop you in AP so why not all the time. In what situation would you ever want to have a collision with an obstacle.

I wouldn't dismiss AP just because it's fun to drive (I love to drive it too), but the 30 miles home from work in rain and high traffic is much more relaxing when I "barely" have to pay attention. I find situations where I don't even know where I am on the road home because I'm so relaxed.

I installed the 240 volt outlet and get 30 mph charging. Also mounted a hose rack on the wall and coil the cord and hang it there, keeps it off the floor.

My guess is that autopilot shows fewer accidents because it is used in safer situations like straight away divided highway driving, that's true in my case anyway.

I wonder if rather than it being the lane protection it's more like when you're making a lane change and your car spots a car pulling into your space and it jerks you back to avoid the collision.
