GROUP BUY - MCU-1 to MCU-2 Upgrade, Testing interest

I could chip in to a research project. If that's only thing holding you back, I would have this perfect 85-beater with 540 tkm on it to try this =).

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

My own car got an appointment for thursday. They insisted to get the old unit back:

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

Does IC and MCU need to have the same firmware version? Spansion and eMMC need to match anyway. Yeah!

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

I found the same issue with aligning new chips. Silkscreen marking on the board is for some other chip. I took some kapton tape, aligned bga edge with tape edge, marked the chip on the tape. Then stuck the tape on board aligning the edge again with pads. Cut tape on markings. Rinse and repeat...

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

@scaesare congratulations, man! Almost there! How did you get the data out in the end? I'm just a tiny bit ahead: @LuckyLuke helped me out by making an intact image with stock fw and keys extracted from my dump. Soldering took still two attempts (my two cents: soak both the board and chip...

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

Maybe try running the usb cable to freezer and extract while cold?

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

I guess I should report my proceedings as well, even though there haven't been much success. Desoldering, I preheated the board to 200C and then used hot air at 380C and the chip came off easily in ~10sec. The chip was readable with allsocket usb reader. Ddrescue recovered ~97% of the data...

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

And yes, third time indeed! Got the chip desoldered and data is now slowly dripping (28kB/s) through ddrescue. Allsocket usb reader could read it. A stack of moorc-socket, socket to sd adapter and transcend sd reader could not, or was ridiculously slow. May be just a matter of reseating the chip...

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

Third chip, yes. First was from a replaced mcu that I got for research. Second was my own car with dark mcu and now the third one is another persons car that has mcu swap scheduled.

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

Yes, it does. Tried both in usb 2.0 and 3.0 modes. But yeah, I'm quite sure the chips were bad, as two different data recovery professionals couldn't get anything out of them. I guess it's not a good start when an already failed chip gets desoldered... New swissbit chips work fine with the...

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

I have that unit, but didn't work. Then again, my chips were likely toast anyway. I'm sending the tegra board to allsocket in the next few days. I'm a bit sceptical how well that socket solution could work in actual use with vibrations, temp changes and such... Regarding that mmc+ idea, I...

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

It's H26M42001FMR1 as well. Btw, I believe the pin #1 marking dot is next to the serial number. About this suggested allsocket-adapter: I wonder if mmcplus-card would work? That has at least all the data lines, but don't know if the interface is compatible. To make a BGA153-mmcplus adapter...

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

I also got some bad news from data recovery: eMMC interface logic is toast. They offered to recover what they could by directly reading the nand for 400eur. I'm not sure how my chances are that identity files would be recoverable. Btw, has anyone asked tesla if they could/would reflash a mcu...

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

Yeah, adapter stack works flawlessly with a brand new swissbit chip. I believe all eMMC:s are interchangeable and as such, 3.3V tolerant? Anyway, my chip goes to Poland tomorrow.

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

I asked the chip to be reballed. All balls at least seem to be well in place (didn't come loose by slight scraping with a needle). If one of the leads were disconnected, I shouldn't get any information out of it? This was already in 1-bit mode. Not sure I fully understood how the process would...

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

After connecting the sd reader dmesg gives the following: [98655.396676] sd 6:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg1 type 0 [98656.437560] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] 15155200 512-byte logical blocks: (7.76 GB/7.23 GiB) [98656.439075] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Write Protect is off [98656.439078] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Mode...

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

I tried with allsocket usb 3.0 reader and with moorc emate socket-adapter stack inserted to a transcend usb sd reader. I'm afraid only the disk is recognized, and not the partitions.

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

I got the actual chip of my MCU today back from desoldering. This time it is recognized by computer, but ddrescue fails to get anything out of it. Is there any other way to get the image? The IC computer card has a similar chip and IIRC someone had extracted an image from that and got the MCU to...

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

I'm afraid this particular chip was stuck in a power-up loop when put to socket. But thanks for the tip! I also belive that you authored those DIY-guides? Kudos to you!

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

A month later: eMMC still not swapped. However, it is possible to drive without the processor card. Even a data recovery specialist couldn't get any data out from the desoldered chip. No way to know if it was totally wasted when I got it or destroyed while desoldering.

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

My MCU screen was totally blank, some lights inside. Could drive it. Then I had the car on when I unplugged the thing and it won't move anymore. Also driving lights got stuck on automatic. On other note, tried to read out the emmc without desoldering today. Not much success. The board draws...

I'm not sure about linking to other forums, but googling for "Tapping In to the eMMC" should yield the thread. Have not tried yet, so can't confirm.

    Preventive eMMC replacement on MCU1

I'm actually in the process of doing this right now on a previously swapped MCU. I have one running S that definitely has emmc near its end (screen black for a while, no connectivity, tesla diag said corruption and need new mcu). This MCU I am working with now was replaced (and given back to the...

    What's your P85D power after X miles?

Kinda embarrassing for a physicist not to label his axes =). It's milliseconds, and note 10^5 multiplier. Unfortunately I had only battery logging on for this, but it is a 0-200 kph pull. I suppose it's okay. I was also first fooled by flat power curves of other people, but then realized that...

449kW peak here. Drops quite rapidly.
