    UK FSD Discussion

I'm not sure they're going to improve EAP. It's basically abandoned in favour of FSD, and whilst that isn't happening we're stuck on an old branch of code which hasn't substantially changed since 2019.

    How Secure Are Teslas/Tesla Thefts

I think that was because the US cars didn't have an internal motion sensor.. we know only too well that even something the size of a fly sets the alarm off.

    How Secure Are Teslas/Tesla Thefts

When I picked up my 3 I was shown around the car and explicitly advised to put P2D on. With the Y it was much less handover, but at least in part because they knew I was upgrading from an existing Tesla.

    How Secure Are Teslas/Tesla Thefts

The Y is a quarter of the thefts of the next above it, the ipace. P2D works.. now someone tell the insurance companies that & give us a discount for using it :p

    Hows your adaptive high beam?

It was illegal in the US and tesla don't develop features that aren't available in the home country.. so they just left them unactivated for years. You can still switch to dipped beam manually.. no matrix system will be able to cope with unlit houses. It does seem reasonably good at handling...

    [UK] 2024.8.x

As read it says to me 'don't bother, you'll have 5 cars fighting for 2 spaces'. But it's more complex than that as other cars will finish, non-teslas can turn up, etc.

    Uk enhanced autopilot changed??

I'm remined of the way the leaf made you accept the privacy dialog every time you got in the car.. their argument was someone else might drive the car so their lawyers insisted. Some companies are very risk averse. Up till now Tesla have been something of the opposite, especially in the US...

    2024 Insurance Costs

I've no idea what I got.. I do know after 6 months they took the box back because I was such a boring driver :p DIscount was about £100 on the next cheapest when I got mine. Still with bell, as they're still cheapest, although it's basically a rebadged admiral once you're out of the black box...

[UK] Report that Tesla not going to produce low cost “Model 2”

It's just elon trying to up the share price after the disappointing quarter. The hardware for a self driving car is the easy bit.. I'm sure they'll have a concept car to show off. The software is hard, and they're nowhere near that.
  11. T

    So… Highland is out…

Insurance costs alone means tesla owners are likely to be older here.. plus it's not a cheap car by any stretch.. a big part of it is going to be company cars which trends older too. And yes if any manufacturer wants to sell in the UK market they need to cater for that market. Most of the cars...

    So… Highland is out…

The 'hover' and the 'car' bits specifically :p

Waze does that.. gets on my tits. I've more than once come off at the wrong junction because I wasn't paying enough attention to the screen and thought it was telling me to turn off.
  14. T

    Uk enhanced autopilot changed??

You can get capacitative gloves.. But mainly the reason they didn't go thay way is cost, I expect.
  15. T

    So… Highland is out…

I'd love the two to be a small hatchback, but Elon has probably never even seen a car that small, let alone thought of producing one.
  16. T

    Uk enhanced autopilot changed??

I'm not convinced it was someone sane. Disabling AP entirely is the worst possible thing to do for safety.
  17. T

    Uk enhanced autopilot changed??

If it never goes away then after a couple it's worth forcing the rest so you can get a reset.
  18. T

    Uk enhanced autopilot changed??

I've had a full lockout just for glancing at the screen to adjust something, but that was quite a way into a long drive. I think it's cumulative, so as you drive for longer it gets more likely you'll tip it over the edge, so it doesn't take much in the end. It also doesn't seem to like my...

Didn't stop for a pedestrian on a crsossing.. he was lucky no police saw that. But kudos for using 'city streets' in an actual city for once.

Charging Renault Zoe with a Tesla Gen 2 Wall Connector

Find a friendly sparky with the tools to measure the ground resistance.. adding more earth rods might not do anything. Might even require a matt:e or similar to replace the earth rods.

    [UK] 2024.8.x

Only thing with AP I found (apart from the big phantom brake I experienced) was it has developed a habit of sometimes dropping to 60 as it passes junctions, so you have to hover over the accelerator to stop it. It's possibly one of the reasons they stopped the rollout, but could be unrelated...

Dry wiping is because the system mistakes bright sun for rain. Nothing more complex than that.
  23. T

    [UK] 2024.8.x

Got another update this morning.. went for a nice long drive. I had the worst case of phantom braking I've ever had in 4 years.. 70mph, clear road, it slammed the brakes on. If I hadn't been wearing a seatbelt I'd have gone through the windscreen. I don't think the guy behind me was very...

I don't think the wipers have actually changed in years.. the bits of variation we see are just different conditions.

You've no idea how deep that crack goes.. I wouldn't risk it.

    Tap to park coming out

The camera can be showing you parked parallel and you get out and find you're at about 30 degrees.. Not sure if it's a calibration issue or just an optical illusion. It does mean I have to do the learner driver thing of opening the door to see where the white line actually is.
  27. T

    [UK] 2024.8.x

I bet the wipers still won't work.

    Run-away I-PACE, really?

It rear ended a tesla, so it's Tesla's fault :p
  29. T

    [UK] 2024.8.x

Youtubers doing it for clicks doesn't mean it's advised.. in fact he frequently has failures with it because it's being used outside its comfort zone. AP on most city streets will get about as far as the first parked car.

    [UK] 2024.8.x

Gave it a try, I seldom go out after dark this time of year and even less in places than high beam is useful, so found some nice country roads to test. It seems to work, you can see it switching cells as you're going around corners. It looks like there's some attempt to switch it off but it's...

    Twitter and the Chief Twit

It risks getting very OT for a car forum, but their 2019 landslide was only 43% of the vote. the right wing has traditionally coalesced around a single party (which is why they considered UKIP such a threat) and the opposition split between Labour, SNP, LD, Greens, etc. FPTP means the politics...

3 Phase smart meter + EV tariff

3 phase smart meters exist.. you just need someone with clue to install it - probably not scottish power, based on my limited dealings with them :/ If you're only using 1 phase you can just disconnect the two unused phases and use a standard smart meter.. you're possibly paying a standing...

    [UK] 2024.8.x

Busy motorways tend to be some of the most brightly lit parts of road, so if there's any taking into account ambient light you wouldn't expect full beams there anyway.
  34. T

    [UK] 2024.8.x

Teslas system lights up in brightly lit areas though, so it can't be left on, has to be switched on only where appropriate. Which takes away most of the 'auto' bit. I'm sure working out the ambient light level from the camera can't be that hard.. they must be doing that for the auto headlights...
  35. T

    [UK] 2024.8.x

Yes, that's pretty much the definition of sensible driving. High beams are for out of town areas where you really can't see without them.
  36. T

    [UK] 2024.8.x

Built up areas are fairly brightly lit on their own, even dipped headlights aren't giving you a lot of advantage. Full beams is just being an arsehole.

    UK FSD Discussion

FSD had to be able to interpret english (or other languages) on road signs too. If a sign says '20 when lights flash' that clearly means don't do 20 at other times. It has to cope with this.. https://c8.alamy.com/comp/H5XARY/trial-50-mph-for-hgvs-on-the-a9-scotland-H5XARY.jpg. It should be...

    UK FSD Discussion

Tesla already can't do lights.. they're hard enough for humans. There's a junction here where you can see 3 sets, all of which conflict. The tesla will bong at me when it sees one of them go green even though I'm stopped at a red.
  40. T

Driving to Europe with car on finance?

PCP is an HP agreement (it even says that on them when you sign them). You're only hiring the car until the end of the agreement - which on PCP is the when the balloon payment becomes due. That's why with cars you have owner and registered keeper.. you're the keeper (ie. he one who is...

    Odd message

Hmm I hadn't checked but it still does, but they'be made the 'open' in darker grey and separated it. Still not really good enough.. It's still a button that doesn't look like a button, and only slightly less confusing than before.
  42. T

    Odd message

Tesla have never been great at logical consistency in their UI.. For a while the display used to day 'Trunk open' when it was closed, for example.

Those videos show that it really doesn't film well.. only at the start of the second one was it visibly doing anything.

    Run-away I-PACE, really?

Aftter the police & courts are done with him he won't have anything left to sue for.. Police chases aren't cheap.
  45. T

    Run-away I-PACE, really?

His contention was that he lost the hydraulic brakes and the accellerator stuck at 90 (not top speed, for some reason), and couldn't switch to neutral, all simultaneously. People actually believed that, and not just people looking for a reason to hate EVs... we truly are in the silliest timeline.

    Run-away I-PACE, really?

    Or a witch.

He can't keep his story straight. I expect after an investigation he'll be quietly charged with dangerous driving.
