    Epic Road Trip

Great trip Ron! But no pictures driving the roadster anywhere on the trip? :) Probably would have complicated the drive a bit having to charge the roadster at night, but you could have had some fun while charging the Y... I assume you're coming to Austin in a couple weeks whether we end up...

    Today's Roadster Orphan

Very well also could be the battery is not in that good of shape due to poor management, thus, they did not provide the information. If I was selling a car with a good battery, I would provide the information as a selling point. Absolutely no reason NOT to provide the information IF it would...

Old Roadster pack is recovering after going below CAC 76?

Just a wild guess would be algorithm issue finally getting updated data and self-correcting. If the charge amount is correct, even approximate, then the CAC appears to be close to the current state of the battery...perhaps/probably it was wrong when it fell to the 76. That mileage looks like...

Looking to buy a Roadster (US)

Others have already provided some info and @X.l.r.8 has a lot of detail to think about. @CM_007 may have some leads as well as GMC. I picked up mine in Dallas a couple years back from a dealer via a google search for tesla roadster. My first drive was Dallas to Austin. If you've done your...

    The Wrecked Roadster Registry

Who said they were all from Gruber's fires? No one. He had a good head start in collecting the list since many were in his buildings when the loss occurred.

    Roadster 3.0

Both stories could be correct. You don't have a dead battery right now. I think we all hope that as they start to see the light at the end of the tunnel for the currently bricked cars battery replacements, they understand the need to continue making an effort at replacing bricked batteries to...

    What to do?

Obviously salvage value will depend on the condition of the remains, some may be "better" than others. Could have been an under/poorly insured car that was totaled for low value and reclaimed when in actuality, it was possibly worth more than the insurance value. That is one reason it may be...

    Today's Roadster Orphan

Why would he? The original roadster was more of a proof of concept. This one is different. Once they have a production line, no reason not to build cars, especially if they can be profitable, and the biggest cost delta of it will be the battery size to get 600 miles range. It will be similar...
  14. im4uttx

    What to do?

Yep, I highly doubt the valuations there take into account the loss of 30 roadsters and the recent pricing increases...but in the end, it's a matter of what you want in return for the cost. Very unlikely to be able to replace a car that is a total loss. I don't see the "cherished salvage"...
  15. im4uttx

    Today's Roadster Orphan

The original roadster was a limited production. There is nothing indicating the new roadster will be limited (in anything, pretty much). Anyone with the money will be able to buy one eventually. I have not heard the volume, but it won't be a limited production quantity/timeframe...

    Roadsters and Fires

I think everyone agrees that once the batteries are ignited, there is little chance of putting them out with a sprinkler system, or even a fire department. Some issues are: 1) could the fire have been stopped prior to a battery igniting by having a sprinkler system. 2) could a sprinkler system...

    Roadsters and Fires

I guess a question might be ask "did code reflect the nature of the business" when being taken into account? Grandfathering a building into NOT requiring fire suppression when you KNOW you are going to store/charge lithuim Ion batteries is a bad idea. Then to put ~30 roadsters into that...

Overnight Fire at Gruber Motors in Arizona

That is assuming the fire started as a battery fire...which in itself would have been a bad reflection on GMC, imo. GMC already had one battery related fire so SHOULD have known better than stacking and cramming that many roadsters in a building. I agree separate compartments for the...
  19. im4uttx

Overnight Fire at Gruber Motors in Arizona

Why? sprinklers may not put out a battery fire, but no one is pointing their fingers at a battery as the cause. And even if it was, sprinklers may have prevented it from spreading rapidly taking the entire building and all cars with it.... But guaranteed, without sprinklers, a fire would...

Overnight Fire at Gruber Motors in Arizona

Per one of the latest messages over on the roadster forum, no, the building was not sprinkler fitted since it was "grandfathered" and saved GMC $400,000 by not having to add the system. If this is true, then it seems pretty irresponsible, imo...especially the following: Why take a building not...

    The Wrecked Roadster Registry

Couple points... 1) I don't remember anytime where "pristine" roadsters were going for under $40K...the under $40K would have been those with suspect batteries and/or higher mileage with cosmetic issues. I purchased mine "pristine" in nid-2020 in the $60K range, it was a basic non-sport, no...

    What to do?

@IslandRoadster is in line with my thoughts... 51K miles isn't too high, but could have some general wear and tear repair needed. If you're looking for insurance valuation, and cost of that insurance is an issue, probably $85K is a good point. If cost isn't so much an issue, $100K would be...

    Roadster loss

You can do a group message to about 4-5 folks, might be more successful than trying to get a private group started, especially if the information is timely...I haven't counted how many on here have posted their losses...perhaps a couple group messages if needed.

    Roadster loss

That can be a consideration, but there are other service providers, working on the same vehicles that have not had the issues at GMC. And had he not been there, someone would have stepped up. But absolutely destroying over 1% of ALL roadsters does not get offset IMO. GMC has done some good...

How to price a 2010 Tesla Roadster in Mint Condition

As with any collector's car, the price will depend on how fast you want to move it... At $90K, it would likely move quickly, while at $1.5M, it will likely never sell, imo (that is the price I have on mine - lol - unlisted). How to value it is the question of the day. So many things go into...

Market for Roadster with a 3.0 Battery

You'll get a premium as long as the battery is holding at an improved range, imo. The issue with the 3.0 battery was degradation of range, so just having the 3.0 only gets you half way to the premium. If your logs are showing range (CAC) holding, you'll get a premium for the extra range above...

Impact of 2nd gen Roadster on 1st gen prices?

A "practical person" won't buy an original roadster...at least not for "practicality" of the car/price. :) But, as you mention, most of the original roadster owners are probably not "practical" folks... I CAN be practical most of the time, but not when it came to the opportunity to buy my baby.
  37. im4uttx

Impact of 2nd gen Roadster on 1st gen prices?

I agree with the above responses...the new roadster won't have significant impact on the original roadster pricing... First, as mentioned, the limited and slowly reducing population of the original version, starting from a small (relatively) number. A few of the "new" roadster may hold value...

    Today's Roadster Orphan

I would agree that if this is a "new" battery installed in Feb, the range is likely 194 miles on standard. Mine likely had a "new" battery in 2016 (since all logs show 2016 as the earliest date) and currently sits at 183 miles range. Would have been nice to have a the comment read "full...

    Roadster 3.0

My bet is they prefer not to open the PEM at the SC to replace the board, so when shipping the battery, they ship a "new" PEM to replace the PEM in the car. Whether they are refurbishing the PEM to make it "new" or it is just a PEM with the new board is unknown, unless someone opens up the PEM...

    Today's Roadster Orphan

@GREML1N win this bid? or a different but similar name? I think low mileage is overrated. It's all about the current range to see how the car was treated. Mine was low mileage (2450, now 6900) but had received a reman battery at some point. Good range on the current battery, so no big deal...

Tesla Roadster battery swap issue. Help please

I suggest contacting either Gruber or Medlock and/or posting in either/both of the Roadster owner FB groups. Seems to be a lot more activity from those 2 on the FB pages and both seem interested in helping on issues like this....they are the most likely to have an answer for your issue, imo.
